How much time do you think it'll take to switch between the locations by public transport?

It's 2.2km (1.5 miles) from Hartwall to Helsinki Ice Hall, according to Google Maps, so probably 10-min? Seems like it'd be fairly efficient.

It's 10 minutes if you have a bicycle but unless you steal one, you need to walk for a bit to get to the nearest tram/bus stop. So I would say that on foot and by tram it takes about 20 minutes*.

*if you're not a terribly slow walker, it's not the rush hour and you don't have to wait for the tram/bus for many minutes.

I think I posted this here earlies, but I'll do it again anyways.

The Helsinki region public transport authority has a super-handy journey planner tool that you can use to find the most convenient route to the games. The venues can be found as "Hartwall Areena" and "Helsingin Jäähalli"(it doesn't work without the ¨ nor with the English or Swedish title for some reason, should probably report that).

For transport between the two venues, bus 69 stops right outside Helsinki Ice Hall as well as at a convention center(Messukeskus) that is right across the train tracks from Hartwall Areena. It's not a terrible long distance to walk either though, might take between 20-30 minutes depending on your pace.

Don't know if this was asked already, but does anyone know if Finland will play (if it makes it so far) it's QF game in hartwall arena or is random?

I'm thinking of getting tickets to QF games in Hartwall arena (you get to see QF 1 and 3 with the same ticket). You'd think whichever seed Finland is, they'd make them play one of the Hartwall areena games?

Finland will play every game in the Hartwall.

This is kinda out there, but does anyone know if there is a Google Calendar for the Tournament Schedule? I'm not working during the holidays so it would be great to have the schedule on my phone calendar.

Between the pools, 1A plays 4B, 2A plays 3B, 3A plays 2B, and 4A plays 1B.

My guess is that Finland will play their QF game at Hartwall, no matter what.

I don't know if it'll be what you're looking for, but the WJC site has a calendar of sorts on the main page.

Not exactly, looking specifically for a Calendar through google that I can sync with my Android. Might just end up making it myself tonight. I'll share a link here so others can use it if I end up doing so.

So a few friends and I are doing the trip to Helsinki for the USA games but we just decided it'd be nice to go to some games on the 28th - anyone have any idea if there are secondary market tickets available anywhere, or if scalpers will be selling tickets outside the arena?

There's most likely are scalpers outside. Atleast there's those guys in reg liiga games.

Mmm, I might have one or two tickets more than I need, and like me, many will probably be selling them for the buying price or to the highest bidder outside of the arena.

Huuto.net
also has some tickets available. Essentially Finnish ebay, so one needs to keep guard up if you go looking from there.
Unfortunately looks like the site wont load using google translate.

If anybody decides to go for that route. Probably best to engage with auctions were you can exchange cash to tickets face to face and seller has plenty of positive rep. So in short use your common sense.

Trying to find out the camera policy for the tournament.

Last year, the policy was no professional cameras over 75mm allowed, which essentially meant no dSLRs. Is it the same this year?

Woo-hoo, glad there will be some other USA fans there! We went to the Malmo WJC, and...there were not many of us.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the two ice surfaces being used? I understand they're different but is it significant?

Well, I don't know HIFK's rink, but Jokerit plays in international rink this season, so I assume HIFK is using Hybrid Rink.

There is a difference but it is not as big as between NHL and international. The difference is in wideness of rink..

International: 30m
"Hybrid" (common FEL rink): 28m
NHL: 26m

Yep.

Helsinki Ice Hall 60 m * 27.80 m
Hartwall Arena 60 m * 30 m

At least these were the measure a couple of years back.

Having been to both venues quite recently, these numbers look right to me. It can definitely have an effect on a team when they have to move to a different sized surface mid-tournament.
