That reminds me - I've seen videos of Christmas lights throughout the city. How long after Christmas do they keep them up? I'll arrive on Dec 27 and would love to spend an hour walking downtown through the lights/snow.

I think it used to be till Twelfth Night at least but as usually there are lots of tourists from Russia to celebrate the New Year and Russian Christmas on the 7th of January, they keep them on even longer. Of course with the fall of the rouble there are now less of them coming, but still quite many do.

That's a helluva cab ride.

(picks you up from Red Square in Moscow)

"Where you going?"

"Helsinki Ice Hall, please."

"Where?"

"Helsinki Ice Hall."

As long as they're on beyond Dec 27, I'm fine. I've been watching videos online from the last few years and it seems incredible. To be a part of that would be surreal.

IIHF has announced Teemu Selanne's jersey/number will be retired by Finnish National Team on Dec 30 prior to the Finland/Slovakia game. Got my ticket!

How much is a ticket for one single game where Finland plays? Or do I have to buy two or more for seeing them play?
29€ for the cheapest seats. Whopping 39€ if you wanna go premium.

It's been talked about before, but yeah, they're surreally cheap.

The first Canada game on boxing day, is it 11Am MT 1PM et, in Canada? Not sure if I converted the time correctly.

Anyone got one(1) ticket to sell me for the gold/bronze game combo? I didn't manage to snag one and with everything else arranged it would be a pity to miss the highlight of the tournament.

The (somewhat) absurdly low ticket prices seem to have reached their purpose. Pretty much every two game package of round robin is already close to being sold out except some of the less intriguing packages of group A. A few single seats still available for the nicer days but overall it seems like the atmosphere won't be lacking because of attendance numbers. Good job IIHF and also the widely but deservedly ridiculed Finnish crooks in charge. Now that we've gone back to the basics, it feels really awful seeing those 2017 prices for MTL/TOR. Like extremely awful.

Are prices already listed for 2017?

The high prices last year were one reason I didn't go to the actual tournament. I wasn't paying $100+ for a decent ticket if I could get Finland/Russia pre-tournament for $40. Heck, most of 2016 is $40. If prices are 2015-level in 2017, I'll do the same thing again.

I was looking at the WJC site and it listed the pre-tournament games. The Russia/Denmark game on Christmas Eve, a 12pm Helsinki-time start, is NOT open to the public. Is this a first? Is there a reason for it?

Got my ticket for the new years eve games RUS-SVK / FIN-CZE!

For those who want to continue the evening in central of Helsinki in a sporty atmosphere I'd recommend Sports Academy which is opposite of the main railway station. Also if you don't have tickets for all the games then Sports Academy is the place where you should go to see them!

I'll probably find myself in Molly Malones which has three sides one being a pub, one for dancing and one for live music. This place can be found going left from the station in a narrow street.

If you need help with public transportation use http://www.reittiopas.fi/en/ or download Andropas for your smartphone which guides you where you need to go with a map.

Too bad I couldnt get tickets for the finals but luckily im a local so I can join the aftergames in a 15minute trainride :hockey:

I think they just want to have as less people working there as they can, because in Finland Christmas Eve is the main day of Christmas. And if there would be audience, they would need more staff and people want to be with their families.

Alright. Just made sure that I can be in Helsinki for the tournament and grabbed some tickets. Too bad the finals are sold out already. Looking forward to seeing the games and meeting fans from all over the world. :)

Also I really hope Finland wins the B group since I got the QF 2 & 4 ticket...

Do what I did - bought a ticket for all four QFs (2 tickets). For the price, why not? Saves from any stress of "will my team make it to the right arena??" Plus, maybe see a game in both rinks if it plays out properly.

Just went back and checked what tickets I actually bought and it was for the 1 & 3 QF games, lol. Guess I could buy the other tickets too, the main problem is that part of the games will be played simultaneously.

Oh, I know. I just thought it would be easier to spend a bit to buy tickets to both arenas, rather than waiting until the last day to hope your team plays in the right arena. This way, no matter where they finish, you'll have a ticket to the game.

That sounds like a reasonable idea. Wish I'd taken the other QF as a physical ticket, would have been easier to sell it to someone else if it turns out that the other venue has more interesting games. How much time do you think it'll take to switch between the locations by public transport? I don't think they'll arrange any shuttle buss type thing, though that would be really useful for those who want to see games at both venues.
