As far as McDavid goes I don't see what the big deal is. The real games don't start until elimination time.

Glad to see Peters saw the same as I did. McDavid and Duchene were not working.

I love Perry's game. Dominant cycle player. Problem is Hall is an atrocious cycle player. I think switching Hall for Marchand or even Domi would be better, but we will see.

I believe it would be wise to find a way to get Duchene back to C. He's a chicken with its head cut off out there.

Rielly - Tanev
Murray - Ceci
Matheson - Ellis
Dumba

???

Ellis will be playing #1 minutes I think.

Rielly-Ellis
Murray-Ceci
Matheson-Tanev

I think Tanev gets the short end of the stick here. Ceci has outplayed him IMO and Ellis is the best defenceman this team will have.

The selection and use of defencemen by Canada has been the biggest change in Hockey Canada's strategy at this tournament. No Brenden Dillon types this year, and the team moves through the neutral zone in unison with defencemen capable of rushing it themselves or making the quick pass to forwards.
Yeah it sure is. I would probably like one or two "defensive" guys.

Let's get this straight here, because I've seen both McDavid and Crosby at the same ages, from 14-18, Connor McDavid is a more a more talented and skilled player than is Crosby. Sid plays a power skilled game with a big rump and Connor is all speed and finesse. Connor's biggest shortcoming at the moment is he lacks a little of Sid's dogged determination. With a little more of that he could very well be leading this tournament in scoring...but as was pointed out in earlier posts, leading this tournament in scoring and $4.85 may or may not be enough to get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks...depending on where you are....

Mr Writer, with excuses and faux pas!!

Mr Writer, with excuses and faux pas!!

The only faux pas is people who buy in to the notion that Sid is the best to ever lace them up and there can never be his equal. He isn't and there can be. There's no doubt in my mind who the more skilled player is. How that translates into his pro career is another matter entirely.

Crosby was a better teenage player. He never fulfilled his potential though, so it would be disappointing if McDavid doesn't surpass him in his own career.

That's an argument that can be made. I don't agree with it, but that's just my opinion.

interesting that Dumba is 3rd pairing for today's game and Matheson is the 7th...don't agree with that either.

Dumba has not really impressed at this tournament thus far.

I would say he's been the worst player, excluding Hutton since he never plays. Just too careless with the puck.

I really like what I see from Stone on a game by game basis. He wouldn't be out of place as the checking line RW in a big boy tournament.

I think it's obvious who the more skilled player was between Crosby and McDavid in their teenage years. I'd say it is close but Crosby possesses unnatural leg strength. Guy has been built like a brick ****house since 14 from the waist down.

McDavid is a faster player with better stickhandling and passing skills. Crosby is a weird superstar in that he is dominant along the boards and down low without being a massive guy. I think Crosby is one of the most unique players the game has seen.

I don't know if McDavid necessarily plays the style necessary to dominate the league especially with the way the game currently is. A huge emphasis is put on cycling and crashing the net, which Crosby has always done well. McDavid will need to get stronger and he has shown he isn't afraid to drive the net..but he still can't compete with the big boys down low. He has shown flashes of being able to strip the best defencemen in the NHL, but if they get ahold of him he simply can't fight them off. Maybe that will come with age.

Mcdavid's the type of guy who's only going to get better. I don't buy him as the next great player but rather I think he'll develop into a solid 85-90 point a year player which is impressive in this low scoring era.

For whatever reason, he's horrible whenever he puts on the Maple Leaf.

He's living off one outstanding U18 tournament he played when he was 17...can't remember if was Hlinka tournament or the IIHF U18 tournament...but he played 1 good one. and that's it.

I'd rather not see him ever again in a Team Canada sweater until he's about 28 and has 6 full years of NHL experience...and even then it will be for this tournament only and not a real Team Canada at a real best on best tournament.

Dumba has not really impressed at this tournament thus far.

He's one of those players who's either noticeably bad or noticeably good. Not a lot of middle ground with him. Surprised he hasn't gotten off more shots on the PP with the extra room on the ice.

Haven't walked but is the brilliance of Mark stones game shining here? Or is it still too early and caliber of comp too low?

One of, if not the most, undershoot existed stars in the game? Leads team in possession? No surprises, he's an nhl leader in that regard with his eyes closed. The games most gifted takeaway artist (by a landslide) with offensive ability to contend for selkes annually.

Reading people spit ball names for World Cup roster and it's amazing how many people outside of Ottawa don't realize how good Mark Stone is.

It's not surprising that people still don't know. But, I stand by what I said in Fall of last year...Stone makes this team. He'll make an impact too.

And his skating has improved leaps and bounds. Certainly in the conversation for a Big Boys A Team tournament.

In fact, if we had a real tournament to look forward to this September, and with the Stamkos, Seguin and Giroux (injuries/surgery pending) making their participation uncertain, my 3 replacements would probably be Coutour Toffolli and Stone.

mcdavid needs to shoot more

Yeah ...I noticed that in particular on one of the pp's vs France. McD got set up about 2 ft above the blue paint, to the right side of goal, with both time and space. Goalie had that side of net covered, but he could have made a move to try to tuck it in, on far post...or some other dipsy doodle deke...Instead he rushed a pass to Stone who was way on the other side, by the boards/half wall...pass never clicked...meaning that McD essentially passed up a good scoring chance...by rushing/over passing/ not being selfish enough...

Even if he had made a move toward goal, faked a shot, then dished off puck, odds are Stone woulda been in much better position to accept pass/score...

By now, goalies must be cheating...figuring pass happy McD mostly doesn't take the shot

He still has a choppy stride, but I don't think his skating holds him back anywhere.

And as I've always said, Stone always has his stick on people, he's always in the right place and seems to always have the puck or getting it to people's tape. I don't care if he does it going in slow motion (he used to pretty much be in slow motion), his head moves faster than everyone elses. It's always been that way.
