Canada played five minutes on good level tonight. Finland did not have its best game tonight but the result was still 4-0. If a miracle happens and Canada beats Sweden (they have been really poor on the tournament as well) on quarter finals you can expect to beaten really badly by Russia (which has been stunning in last games).

Corey Perry's kneeing against Laine was something what you do not expect from a captain. Another player who becomes first in mind from tonight's game was Scheifele - because he tried to slash the puck from Koskinen's glove. If your players are remembered from this kind of performance and not from goals, passes, hits... Better to do something.

But Canada wouldn't play Russia in the semis?

You're just posting this to stir up trouble when people are obviously pissed off about the loss. Not going to bite on the bait.

Just a question

Why are so many of Canadian players so bad behaving and have no respect for their opponents.

Team Canada must be the most hated team among other people, so childish behavior

what are your own feelings as fans, it's not your fault, but are proud? I'm sure don't want the to represent this way either? right or wrong?

Yeah we're all super proud of it :shakehead

to be honest, it reminds me of his 2014 World Juniors in Malmo. His 'oh, I'm not deserving to be in this great company of Canadian players' attitude is something he has to get over. It may take a while before he actually does...not in time for the 1/4 final anyway. He could use a little bit of Laine's arrogance.

haha man this kid can do no wrong. When he plays well it's cause he's the best player in the world. When he doesn't it's because he's too humble.

McDavid has looked only okay but I don't think it's because he's in awe of guys like Perry and Duchene.

I wonder if when we lose to Sweden, Hockey Canada will take this more seriously.

Although, I could see lots of players (by that I mean their wives) wanting to go to Paris for next years Skoda Cup.

Why would they take this tournament more seriously? If the general public doesn't care very much, Hockey Canada won't care very much.

I think it's time for you to maybe stay in the Finland thread.

That's the place for guys like you don't you think?

Team needs to wake up, but I'm not sure how good the group is. No real star on the back-end and not a true offensive defenceman. Ellis is still adjusting and Rielly, Murray, Ceci, have shown no signs of being able to help the forwards offensively other than a first pass. It's definitely not the 2015 dominant team.

There's a few pictures of them partying, I doubt they've been partying the last 3-4 days, but it's time to get 100% focused on this tournament. I think this team can win the tournament, but this team just isn't clicking. There needs to be more speed through the neutral zone and I don't know why they keep dumping the puck everytime they get it.

Goaltending was atrocious, but it came from our #1 goalie so we're going to turn to a AHL goalie?

Fins need to stop *****ing about the Perry incident, if you want your superstar prospect to become a star in the NHL, well he's going to get a lot more than that Perry kick.

not all that worried. This team is good enough to beat any team left in the tournament. Talbot can be better than he was today. we'll see.

I'd prefer Matt Dumba never touches the ice again in this tournament though.

Why were so many Finnish players diving? The goalie flop in the 3rd was particularly bad.
Are you proud of all that diving to win games?

See how silly this is?

Talbot was directly responsible for 2 goals.
Ellis (and Murray) responsible for another.
The other goal was a seeing eye point shot IIRC.

4 goals? Yeah sucks but Talbot **** the bed on 2 of them and I doubt it will happen again.

The only worrisome thing in this game is that Canada didn't score. I'm a lot more concerned about 0 goals than I am about the 4 I saw today.

Also - Finland is a disgusting team that clearly bought the referees to avoid countless interference calls. If a Canadian player pulled half the **** I saw today by Finns - there would have been multiple 5 on 3s against Canada. We would have been on the PK nearly the entire tournament.

I am surprised by McDavid's lack of production thus far in the tournament. Zero goals is surprising.

Yes he does have 7 assists in 7 games. Panarin has 7 assists too... plus 5 goals.

I know this tournament is a small sample size and doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things but the way people went on about McDavid when it came to the Calder race and saying how he would have scored like 100 points and blown Panarin out of the water if he had played a full season.... so you would be expecting McDavid to completely dominate everyone in a tournament like this.

What happened?

It's the reputation. I've seen some huge hits in this tournament not called, but when Canada gets even close to that line, the refs will call it. It's really frustrating to watch and it happened in this game, Marchand touches Komarov's helmet and he gets a penalty while Komarov skated down the ice with his stick between Marchand's legs. I love international hockey, but the IIHF officiating is just so inconsistent. Gord Miller and Ray Ferraro are asskissers and think it's consistent when it's really not. The refs are 50/50 on body checking in all tournaments. The WJC refs are even more embarrassing. The refs didn't even see Jenner nail the Slovak in 2013, but they called it after the guy had to be carried to the bench. It's just brutal. It doesn't help when Gord and Ray are trying to kiss the IIHF's ass whenever they get a chance.

Your asskissing argument won me over.
Perry made a good hockey play.
Give that captain a ****ing medal. He's a good boy from Ontario.

Did I or did I not warn everybody weeks and weeks ago how this would most likely play out... roster composition, coach, Perry etc. etc. Damn, I know my ****.

Enjoying my morning coffee and reading all of yesterday's hf nonsense.

They'll regroup and pull out a squeaker against the Swedes, but then it's good night, Irene. See you next year.

Gallagher has been completely useless. I hope to never see him again at another international tournament in Europe.

Yeah, I expected more, but I see why is he ineffective here. The big ice is not helping, Gallagher works best in tight areas where he can jam and bang. In the NHL, he usually stays behind or infront of the net in the offensive zone, here he has to go to the wall, corners, and support.

It is disgusting the amount of interference, hooking and diving the Finns got away with. I was sitting right at ice level and it was so very obvious.
On another note I just see that the puck is half a foot off on almost every pass. There really is no cohesion on any of the lines.

Well, if we are short at RW and it's an NHL gimmicky tournament in N. America, then ya, sure! I won't be watching gimmicky tournaments anyway...but for any tournament in Europe, Hockey Canada would be advised to keep its finger pressed on the arrow down button bypassing his phone number in their contact list. Marchand doesn't get off scot-free either. He has only been marginally better as his LW equivalent. But I said a month ago, including Marchand, Gallagher and Perry was probably not the best idea. I figured that their penchant for being dumb would cost us in an elimination game...so maybe they, but mostly Perry, have gotten the dumbness out of their system before it cost us in an elimination game. but, then again, probably not.

Canada needs to slow the game down and let it come to them let them make the mistakes let our talent make them pay for their mistakes

if you believe in conspiracy theories, then the IIHF fix was in, a Team Canada loss set up a potential Canada v Russia final. If the fix is in, from here on in all officiating will be skewed in favor of that preferred outcome... we'll see how it goes.

Mcdavid's the type of guy who's only going to get better. I don't buy him as the next great player but rather I think he'll develop into a solid 85-90 point a year player which is impressive in this low scoring era.

This is pretty much how I see it at the moment. I used to think a while ago that he could really be the Next One. But to me this many games in the international top level tournament should already show if the player is truly that Next One.

I mean his first NHL season showed glimpses of it, but only glimpses still, in my opinion. Of course you can always argue, that his injury and the bad team that he plays for would put his production down. And of course his first NHL season was very impressive. But for me to really see him as the obvious Next One, he should have maybe had an even better PPG. Maybe something like 1,20 or over. I know that this is very unlikely to happen in nowadays hockey. But only that would still be a sure sign of him being that Next One-level player.

I'm not saying that he couldn't maybe still develop into the Next One. But for sure I have lost quite a lot of my faith in it. And for sure he is not yet at the level that Crosby was at the same age. The most significant difference is definitely with strength and attitude. Crosby had much more strength at the same age and he was much more "in your face". Definitely McDavid needs to get much more strength and most of all he needs to have more of a star attitude. He is too "polite" right now in my opinion.

Perry and Marchand are not problems. The fault for that loss lies mainly with Talbot and the whole team's inability to calm down after two bad goals. Obvious symptom of having such a ridiculously young team. Also... a loss to Finland in the preliminary round of the World Championship is highly irrelevant for Hockey Canada.
