When a loss feels like a win. Strange year. Kids are showing up...Nylander Soshnikov, Hyman, Carrick, Kapenen all look very good. Leipsic too. Just a matter of time until these losses are wins, (next year will do fine)

why would you hope that - I would assume that would be a given - that + our goaltending. (and I like what we have) but so many people are like "but the defense"...

i'm pretty certain they know they have to work on it - it was really hinted at when they got C.Carrick that they were pushing for him (the RHD doesn't hurt either).

Marincin can f right off. No way he's part of this roster next year. Same with Corrado, the D needs an overhaul, move out Marincin, Corrado heck even Hunwick. Rielly-Zaitsev, Gardiner-?, ?-?

Kapanen is going to be up next year. I loved his game. He skates darn well, can't believe scouts thought it was a weakness...he is so deceptive and gains the zone almost every time. Smart player, decent shot and playmaking skills and really well defensively. I bet he's our 2nd line winger real soon.

I really hope that 1) we actually get Zaitsev and 2) he's a legit top 4 (2nd pairing guy) or were gonna have a lot of upset Leaf fans around here next season...

Oilers had the night off while the Jets had to play the Habs. Oilers should be able to win this hands down. So I guess it will end up something like 3-1 Jets.
 
This offseason, rebuild and tank, is going to take a great deal of LUCK, and some deal making. I believe in our current management to get the right deals done, when possible.... LUCK... this franchise... can it really be bad forever?

If we are lucky... we might win the Draft.
If we are lucky, Pittsburgh makes the playoffs as the last placed team, and has a quick exit.
If we are lucky, Stamkos chooses to test UFA.
If we are lucky, Vesey chooses to test UFA.

If we are lucky/skilled at making deals, we trade the 1st round Pittsburgh pick, to select Mikhail Sergachev, a Left Handed D, who plays on the Right Side. He is taller than Chychrun, more physical, a bit nasty, plays the right side, and has more points than Chychrun, in his rookie season playing in North America.

If we are skilled at making deals, Stamkos signs with us, in a deal that isn't going to become a cap problem.
If we are skilled at making deals, Vesey and Zaitsev choose to sign with us.

First three draft picks. Matthews, Sergachev, Hart

Well two things we have to offer non NHL UFAs

Open opportunity to crack the NHL

and one hell of a coach.

PIT <- 80K cap space to sign 5 players
CHI <- 9 Mil to sign 9 players
NYR <- 17 Mill to sign 11 players
LAK <- 7 Mil to re-sign 5
MIN <- 7.5 Mil to re-sign 8

He looks extremely erratic on the ice at times but the upside is definitely there. His passes to nowhere are a little frustrating to watch but I have zero problems giving him a pass on those since it's his first taste of the league. We haven't even seen much of his deadly wrist shot either.
 
IMO this is what we look like next year (assuming Matthews and Zaitsev but no Stamkos or other UFAs)...I seriously have no idea what we're going to do this summer. We're insanely log jammed with young kids who need NHL spots but we have a bunch of vets who will be taking spots.
