Yes, but Talbot was on the bench so ... :sarcasm:

Doesn't matter, Leafs are a joke, so no worries about them catching the Oilers.

The biggest concern is that Burke is a tanking master without trying, and after he took over a team from Jay Feaster who left the Flames in great situation and on the upswing the 18 wheeler over a cliff has followed Burke to Calgary.

Babcock even with an AHL roster might be too good a coach not to pass Burke's Flames.

Just re-watched the Shanahan interview from just before the draft, and it reminded me the importance of being patient, and I have full confidence that Shanahan won't go with an 'accelerated' rebuild. The fact that in so many interviews, Shanahan and Babcock have forewarned that we will be bad for a few years makes me cast doubt in our interest in Stamkos for the first time. Irregardless, this offseason should be entertaining!

anybody whose watched Edmonton play on a regular basis knows Talbot's been awesome since the start of December. he signed 3 years 4.1 million hardly to much term or money especially if he plays like he has for the last 3 months. he got off to a rough start with his new team no doubt but he's settled in and played excellent behind a bad defensive team in Edmonton. since the start of december he's played at a 929sv% which considering the team he's played for is quiet impressive. and Brossoit played tonight in a back to back situation not surprised they didn't play there best.

that is all well and good, however - for me personally, i wouldn't have given him 4.1 for 3 years.
nor would i have given him a no move. though that's just me. i would really hesitate to give out NMC/NTC to anyone on my team, unless they were my franchise star.

so what would be your strategy to replace him when he walks as a UFA then? not like there are alot of options this summer. and the NTC is irrelevant these days almost everyone who signs for 3+ years as a UFA gets a NTC.

Most teams have players who have those clauses who'd surprise you (in terms of being Meh players). It's a good way to lower their salary in negotiations and most players will waive should they feel unwanted.

A look at the standings... Happy the top draft picks look like they will go to mostly Canadian teams and as a bonus out of the Eastern conference.

Hoping for the following tomorrow

Min @ Buf
Cgy @ Pit
Cbj @ Phi
Mtl @ Win
Ott @ Tor
Fla @ Ari
Van @ SJ

I'm sure someone's going to come in and tell me that I should hope for Pittsburgh over Calgary but as I've said for a while now I'm not worried about them missing the playoffs. The teams below them suck. Philly just got shutout by the Oilers last night lol.

Calgary winning is a hell of a lot more important than the Pens pick. Goes without saying....I'd hope

I don't think people realize how bad Calgary and Winnipeg are right now. Both teams have been battered by injuries/trades and sub Bernier level goaltending. The Leafs may be the worst team on paper, but on the ice they have looked considerably more competitive. I think it's going to be a close finish.

It's not just you, I wouldn't have either, he's done very little to justify that type of commitment.

The Leafs look like Calgary of a few years ago. Out-work opponents all night, and be satisfied that you competed in a loss

I said look out for the Jets like 2 weeks ago. Lost Little for the year, traded Ladd, and Pavelec returned so they had to send down their best goalie Hellebuyck.

"Just get #2" is a good mantra to have. Laine will be the big scoring winger on Nylander's wing... with JVR.

I am really concerned that we might surpass Calgary, Winnipeg and may be Edmonton (tank masters) in the standings

Calgary do not seem to have any motivation and playing for nothing, and have lost last 3 and have only won 2 out of last 10 games and Edmonton for obvious reasons (they are quiet capable of a losing streak)

Eh, a 3 year nmc really means little, even as a back up 4.1m ain't terra bad.

Just look at the situation edm is in, every damn media pundit is screaming, "fix, edm, trades, trades, fix edm"

I sure as heck would not ink into that hornets nest without a nmc

ya it's not just Pitt that needs to keep an eye on philly

Pitt can force Det/Bos as the wildcard team knocked out by Philly

Personally, I'm more concerned with the Pits pick. This is the perfect time for that pick. They're not that good this year and will get us a very good mid-round pick. We also have extra picks and players to package for the possibility of moving up. I think it would be much easier to go from, say, 16 to 12 this year then, say, 24 to 12 next year. In the 12 spot, it is guaranteed that one or more of either Serg, Juolevi, Fabbro, Bean, McLeod or Rubstov are there.

Who knows about next year. The Pens make suck or they may be much better. Which would mean a 2nd round pick (if they suck) or a bad 1st pick (if they're really good). The time is now for that pick. We may not have players to trade for moving up next year as well (e.g., Bozak, JVR).

Also, it would be nice for the Leafs to finish last, but that lottery is totally wonky. It's up to the gods.

I'm good with last, 2nd last, or 3rd last and missing the lottery. Dubois, Tkachuk or Chyrchrun for me are all perfect. No windows will be smashed.

people greatly overrate us.

As bad as Calgary and Winnipeg may be, we are far worse

Right now Pitt is in a pretty good spot to force any of the Atlantic teams to be the last wildcard team knocked out by Philly.

Pitt wins it's game in hand and no team in the Atlantic has more then a 4 point lead on them , 4 points this time of year (even games played) is still easy to catch.

I honestly don't know.
however, for me personally - as I've stated it just seems a touch long, a touch expensive, and I stated - I personally feel that these little caveats are given out too long, and i truly don't believe that they shouldn't be.

anyway - it doesn't matter.

It actually doesn't. I know they're basically given out like Candy - which is why it sort of bugs. I am curious if it actually does lower their salary (or this is just theoretical) - how much does it lower it by (like a legitimate amount?)
It's not just you, I wouldn't have either, he's done very little to justify that type of commitment.

thank you. Like he's been in the league for like, a minute, and here, here's a NMC for you?

Edmonton and Winnipeg play each other on Sunday, if that's a 3 point game it helps.

"Just get #2" is a good mantra to have. Laine will be the big scoring winger on Nylander's wing... with JVR.

you can have "just get #2" I'll hold out for Matthews. I get that our odds are greater that we pick outside of #1 but I'm not going down that road until we're actually not picking #1...right now we have the best odds to pick #1 and that is my hope. A terrible season like this....dream big. I'm not settling for Laine if Matthews is still there.

Another important night for the tank and this is what I would like to see

Tor - L in regulation
Buff - W
Pitts - W in OT or SO
Cal - L in OT or SO
Cbs - W
Wpg - W in OT or SO
Mtl - L in OT or SO

On Sunday

Pitts - W
Edm - W in OT or SO
Wpg - L in OT or SO
