I admit, I was all for moving JBJ last year....but if he is anything like the hitter he has been this year, moving forward, I wouldn't touch him. I like the idea of rolling a Benintendi/JBJ/Betts outfield for the next 10 years.

I agree, I don't think there is a pressing need to address the starting rotation this offseason.

Price
Porcello
Pomeranz
Wright
ERod/Bucholz

is a pretty solid top 5/6 guys.

Plus I wouldn't want to move anyone important from the lineup out with the loss of Ortiz. Lineup possibly looking something like:

1B Shaw/Sandoval?
2B Pedroia
SS Bogaerts
3B Moncada
LF Benintendi
CF Bradley Jr.
RF Betts
DH Ramirez
C Leon
Hill/Holt/Vazquez/Young on the bench

Now the bullpen.....
I think you are looking at Hanley at first, Shaw a swing guy, likely Moncada in AAA to start. Sandoval would be DH and/or 3B. Sam Travis can be a stud- he will be back

Vazquez was very good last few weeks and I am a bit surprised they did not call up but that could have something to do with his time considerations or playing after missing a year they got catcher covered for now - DD spoke about him and seemed very high on him. And don't forget Swihart

I'm going to start season

C- Leon/Vazquez
1B- Hanley
2B- Pedroia
SS- Xander
3B- Shaw/Sandoval
LF- Binentendi
CF- JBJ
RF- Betts
U- Holt
DH- Encarnacion

Moncada will be up by June and Travis at some point
C Young - 4th OF

I like Quintana a lot. I just thinking having a top 5 CF playing everyday is more valuable than the upgrade Quintana represents in the rotation. I also don't like the idea of moving JBJ for chemistry reasons, and that's an entirely different can of worms.

I actually really like the rotation going forward with the P's at the top and Rodriguez/Wright in the 4/5 spots...especially when considering we have Kopech/Groome in the system along with a handful of other guys who could conceivably be 5's if things break one way or the other (Johnson, Owens...even guys like Stankiewicz, Beeks, and McAvoy who have flashed at times).

Plus there is Buchholz :) ;)

I accept your opinion. JBJ is a very valuable commodity, no doubt. Hell, I am not that inclined to get rid of Bradley jr, it's just that I don't think we will be able to extend our "killer B" core. Betts should be doable (hope I am right), but then it's either Bogaerts or JBJ, at best IMO.
Plus the fact that we have some designated CF already on the team, so we wouldn't be left without a replacement. Filling in Fenway LF is rather easy, so I am not sure I want to waste that spot with a + defender like Benintendi.

But as others have said, you also have to take a look at the rotation and you could make a case that we don't even need another top flight starter. You can never have enough of the, but at what cost?
Price, Porcello and Pomeranz are locks. So it's 2 spots for Rodriguez, Wright and Buchholz + Owens and Johnson. Trading Wright wouldn't be wise, doubt his value is anywhere near where we think it is. Buchholz is meh and it's unlikely that they have lost faith in Eduardo.

@Dan: Are you willing to surrender our 1st rounder and the slot money in order to overpay EE? I am not.

I would rather enter the year with no regular DH. Sandoval, Hanley, Shaw and Swihart could all play games there. And if we need a hitter at the deadline, we could trade for someone like Nelson Cruz. Or sign Ortiz in July. I just don't think there's much of a benefit to rushing to figure out the DH spot when it might not be that costly to figure out exactly what we need (do we want a RHH or LHH?, do we even need a DH or can Sandoval play?) and make a trade in the summer.

I'm getting ERod out there the first guy gets on here

Moncada you get the feeling will someday live up to the hype

Sox should just keep all these kids and they will own this town

EE reminds me of Tony Perez from the Big Red Machine which is interesting cause that's where he came from

Eduardo Rodríguez is pitching the game of his life and they can't score a run for him

They need a run here

I always love the Sox but I love being emotionally into this team like the past

I had to use slow motion to see Moncada throwing to first

I'm in love

Or used proper technique... that was a Manny moment for sure for Hanely. He didn't even use the right leg on the base or stretch, both of which would have cut the travel distance of the ball short enough for the out.

And we get non save situation kimbrel. So like them to win two blowouts and then lose 1-0

Hell baby
Didn't watch the game....was that another game lost on an error?

Sure was

Probably would have been lost with or without that error but technically it was the 4th walk off error of the year against us

As for Erod, my thoughts on him have been documented in here I believe...I think the guy is a future #2. He came in with rusty secondaries and mechanical flaws/more injuries after missing the spring and it showed...he's worked through it quite well I would say. Certainly not another Doubront as I was told

4th walkoff error loss, next team(s) have ONE.

**** like that is why I have zero faith in this team.

Yeah and then the lineup will score 45 runs over 3 games and I'll believe again

No idea what to make of this team. The starters have been great since Bannister started spending time in dugout. The bats hit the occasional dry spell but there probably isn't a better lineup 1-9. But boy can they be frustrating

They are amazingly entertaining

I wish Ortiz would stick around another year - really makes zero sense
