Still waiting for the 6' 3", 400 lbs, ex-college offensive tackle as goalie. Trained to block passes (pucks) and for quick lateral moves.
Hell, at that size, he'd only have to move a foot or so.

Can't wait to hear Jim Fox say, "pound for pound, the best goalie in the world!"

Hope we can continue the trend of finding 2nd round studs.

Not sure that is true anymore... Since Toffoli we have drafted:

Christopher Gibson
Valentin Zykov
Roland McKeown
Alex Lintuniemi
Erik Cernak

in the second round.... not sure if anyone of them look like players at this point. Granted it's early still.

Oof.

How does that help the Kings now, while the window is still open to win cups ?

You have to replace those guys with NHL players.

Depending on what else happens, nibbling at the edges might be what can be done. Say Clifford got dealt for a pick, Andreoff could slide in there full time. Is he better than Clifford? Worse? In a cap world, sometimes you might have to take the chance. They save $1 million to put toward someone else if that happened. Trade King for a pick, and if Brown is still around, he can be on either wing on the 3rd line, and that's almost another $2 million to spend elsewhere. All in theory of course. Maybe a guy like Auger could end up as the 3rd/4th line RW. They'll need a cheap young guy playing better than expected somewhere.

Lombardi hasn't been one to trade guys that have won here, especially if they've played some sort of role in that winning, but after the last 2 years, he may be less inclined to keep everyone around. You have to think King or Clifford are easier to trade than Brown, and every dollar helps at this point. There's certainly no easy answer. It'll take a lot of things going right for the Kings to get back to where they want to be next year.

When planning for the future, remember that draft picks are four to five years away from real impact. A Doughty or Kopitar is a one in five thousand shot. Can't develop a team on those odds. Giving away NHL level players, even "garbage" players or "plugs" for draft picks can have a dramatic effect on a teams development curve. Not every pick pans out. Not every pick is an impact player. Trevor Lewis was a high level scorer pre-NHL. Ironically, he'd probably score more goals in a less defensively schemed system. IF, he decides to move to another team. Then, we can all complain about his lack of effort when playing for the KINGS.

Just be careful what you trade for.....

Austin Matthews heard cursing off mic when he learns Toronto wins the lottery. :P

Jets picking another good Finn. Selanne 2.0?

Happy for them, as I feel they are screwing up by not doing a complete rebuild. That said, if they can get a true Franchise player from this draft. Ehlers/Schifele (sp?)/Trouba (and maybe Connor/Dano/Myers) are good enough imo to be the support needed for a proper core.

here is a recent article on Cernak. Sounds pretty promising.

Černák too, continues to prove himself an asset on the ice. “I just think they (the Los Angeles Kings) wanted him to play in all situations… to be one of our key players for our team – he’s played a really big part of our team this year,” Knoblauch goes on. Like the other King’s prospects currently playing in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), Černák is also working on his 200-foot game. “I think it’s really good. He’s really used as a shut down defenseman a lot,” says Knoblauch.

In terms of what Coach Knoblauch would like him to work on, “offensively, I think he can chip in more,” he continues to tell The Hockey Writers. “I think he’s a tremendous skater. As big as he is, his skating is really a strong asset for him. He’s on his way to becoming a pro.”

Oilers will still select a forward.

They're in a tough spot, but I think they should take a forward at #4 rather than reach for a D. If it were me, I'd trade RNH for a proven NHL D. Then I'd draft Tkachuk or Dubois to ride shotgun with McDavid down the road.
