Button seems to think that the Canucks are enamored with Brown. If that's the case, just have to hope that the Oilers go D at 4, and that one of PLD or Tkachuk falls into our lap at 7, preferably Tkachuk.

1 - Toronto Matthews
2 - Winnipeg Laine
3 - Columbus Puljujarvi
4 - Edmonton Juolevi/Sergachev?
5 - Vancouver Brown
6 - Calgary PLD
7 - Arizona Tkachuk

I hope Benning goes full Benning and trades the pick away.

Woodhouse was kind enough to agree with all my top recommendations, so if anyone dislikes the picks, feel free to direct your angst at me :)

Thought process:
#7 Tyson Jost, C. Not sold that BPA at #7 was a defenseman. Passed on Keller and Nylander as wings, thought it was more important to add a C to the prospect pool if the value was close. High chance Keller ends up at wing in the NHL. In the end gave a slight edge to Jost over Brown as the more consistent prospect. Jost appears to have that 2-way game that playoff teams covet, in addition to high offensive upside.

#20 Charlie McAvoy, RHD. Was a no-brainer. Drafting a forward at #7 the plan was hoping one of the defensemen would slip to #20 and McAvoy was the only one of the upper tier that did.

#37 Cam Dineen, LHD. Liked the descriptions I've seen of Dineen. Was already leaning towards D here, and a run on forwards in the early 2nd round confirmed to me that defense was the best value. Dineen seemed the best of the options there to me (considered Dineen, Cholowski, Allard, Girard and Fox). Lots of dmen projected in the early 2nd round from the lists I've seen, yet it didn't run that way in the mod draft.

#53 Dennis Cholowski, LHD. Could be a boom or bust prospect, have seen him anywhere from early 2d round to mid 3rd round, seemed like very good value at 53. Off to a good situation in the NCAA to let him put on some weight and develop.

Did my best to restock the Coyotes defensive prospect pipeline. I expect the full moderator mock draft will be posted possibly as soon as tonight, it's almost completed.

Edit: amusingly just looked at Button's new list today and saw all four of these players are in his top 26. Dunno if that a positive takeaway or not. ;)
Hehe, they weren't bad recommendations by any means and the three defenders were pretty much easy picks with my list and your recommendations agreeing anyway. If Hajek or Howden made it past 35, I would've made the case for either at 37, but we never got to that point.

I'd do backflips over this haul. I'll film it.
That's fantastic mouser! Great draft. Well done. I'd be so happy with that set of players. I'd have been nervous/angry/scared from pick 8-19 but after pick 20 Id be satisfied and by pick 54, I'd be thrilled.
Three defense off the board after 9th and five after 16th does make you sweat some though. Taking a forward at 7th and not having any of Bean/Fabbro/McAvoy there at 20th, would've made for a debate, especially not knowing how the second round would play out.

Is it posted yet?
Expect it to be posted on Thursday to Mock Drafts .. 60th pick was just logged, so there's only one more pick to go with the mod mock being two rounds.

Well done Mouser. I'm very high on Brown and would dhave gone the route but catching all those D would be amazing.

These CBJ rumors regarding 3 and liking Brown won't go away... What's the cost to jump from 7 to 3? We get Pulju at 3 and CBJ gets better value in Brown at 7, assuming Van or Cgy don't take him.

I also read that they like Keller too. Surely one of those two would be available at 7.

I personally think 7+20 would be a good offer, but I'm not too familiar on what the price is to move up.

I'd be really wary about Pulju if Jarmo is willing to pass on him.

I'm already wary of Puljujarvi. I've still got him bouncing around my top five, but he's interchangeable with Jost and Keller for me. All three have first line upside but look more like excellent 2nd liners to me.

With all the Matthews nonsense it made me wish I had kept my file on crazy things TML fans have said. I started copying ridiculous statements during the WJC and all the Marner idiocy.

I hope they take Laine first. I want to see that 180.

Yep. Best to stay away from the trade board until post draft. Never has a birth certificate inflated trade value than what we've seen on hfboards.

Amazing how the thread deteriorated into a Marner Strome discussion. Unflippingbelievable.

What's really interesting is the note from MacKenzie that cbj prefer to draft a Center at 3 instead of the skilled winger. No obvious parallels there lol.

So we have CBJ at 3 who most have taking Pulju, but they really like Brown.

Then we have Edmonton at 4 who need D but there is no standout D to take at 4. They could trade 4 for an established D, maybe to Colorado or Winnipeg. Who do those team take at 4? Is PK Subban possibly in play for 4?

Then at 5 we have Vancouver who have been linked to both PLD and Brown, and a GM who wants to "renovate" rather than "rebuild".

I haven't seen any indications as to what Treliving and the Flames will do at 6.

Then there's us at 7, with a desire to draft D, but like Edmonton, no real "guy" to take at 7. It's a mixed back between D and one of the earlier projected picks falling.

I don't know if I can remember a draft with this much uncertainty with the high picks.

It's shaping up for someone very very good to fall to us at 7.

Everyone is posturing. We all want to drop a couple of slots, pick up assets, and get the same guy you were going to take anyways. Teams are doing homework to gauge how far they could move without getting scooped.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. 1n 2010 I couldn't believe our luck when Gormley dropped to us. He was rated 4th overall going into the draft.
