I'm gonna..
The Jets are so ****ing lucky. Truly. That franchise constantly gets talent handed to them yet they still suck. Toronto deserves it for the job they've done, but the Jets can **** right off.

Just sad to see the one team that didn't try to ice a competitive lineup all year be rewarded with the top pick. I'm done with hockey for a while.

Oilers? We decided to beat 3 good teams in a row in california when we were mathematically out of the playoffs.

That's the oilers fault?

No I'm talking about the new lottery format. If the oilers don't win the lottery last year, they don't change the lottery format. Toronto gets 1st ,Edmonton gets 2 and we would have stayed at 3

No dude, you have to win all the time. Losing on purpose does nothing for your team. 1st overall picks barely help anyone.

It was the Buffalo tank job last year that had the draft changed IMHO. Edmonton were not tanking for mceichel just incompetent.

They were talking about changing the lottery system years before McDavid. SO it was happening regardless of what happened last year

That is not true at all.
The league already decided to change the format...
The top brass just wanted to ease into the new format...
So they allowed the lottery to be the same...
Last year.

Personally...
I myself knew about the changes this year...
Way back in 2014...
But I only fully understand it now.

Even with this sort of defeating result, i still have a gut feel that maybe the Oilers reach for a defender. Fingers crossed.

Toronto did it right.... We should be following suit next season...

What Toronto did is an embarrassment to professional sports. Teams like them, Buffalo last year, Philadelphia in the NBA, should not be rewarded for intentionally trying to provide the least entertaining, lowest quality product.

Thought the above a bit weak after talking D for a while. Sounds like they're leaning Juolevi. Expecting JB to call his name unless the Oilers get him first. Some chance the Oil might value Chycrun's apparent readiness (mostly just playing weight) wee bit more than we do.

Still might as well focus on Olli, Matthew and Pierre-Luc.

Good news there is the picks seem to be getting better of late. No one is gone take a defensive D man in that slot today. If Juolevi is the highest ranking by majority scouts...

. I think this is going to hurt for years to be honest. We will probably get a good player, but that Top 3 was as deep as it gets.

They won a lottery? They placed last but still were one in five to win first. With bad luck they could be last 4 years in a row and never get a franchaise changing player. Also if multiple teams do the Toronto strategy the less effective it is.

Just another disappointing day as a canucks fans. Its always the same. Feels like you are so close to something really special and then it just evaporates right in front of you in dramatic fashion.

Benning defined his position on 1040 this week. He will not take a defender over a fiorward he feels can play on the first line. I think that applies to both Dubois and Tkachuk. I hope Benning does too cuz I sure don't want Juolevi.

The best 5-6 players in this draft are forwards. I assume Benning knows that and he knows his team can't score

So true in so many ways.
