Even if we don't make a trade at the deadline...we can still make moves in the off-season to make some cap space to sign our UFAs.

Oops, CBJWennberg beat me to it...I'm a slow typer :(

I've been supportive of Davidson and Jarmo, but I give them a solid F if they weren't able to do anything today.

I disagree. For once they are showing restraint when I think they should be.

It is entirely likely that we can't shed salary or return value for guys like Tyutin and Hartnell.

Unfair. It takes 2 to tango (and trade) and if teams weren't willing to pay then jarmo wasn't dealing.

If it wasn't for their contracts Hartnell for sure and Tyutin maybe would be gone.

So, our offerings at next year's trade deadline will be....Hartnell, Tyutin, Campbell.

There's this little thing called "the offseason". It is an interesting time, where one can make trades for players, and also buy players out. Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with it.

I guess I have to wait until this off season to get any clarity on team direction.

Also teams can apparently re-sign fourth line centers who are very good at what they do and are leaders, rather than rolling the dice on someone new. Who knew?

Cap space is at a premium because the ceiling has been stagnant. I am not surprised no one wanted to take on Hartnell/Tyutin. I think it's good that if -- IF -- the offers for them included taking back other bad contracts.

At least we didn't acquire another Clarkson type contract

Jackets don't buy out players. If nobody would give the Jackets anything for Hartnell, Tyutin and Campbell now, why would they in the summer?

I think this just means that Cam is going to be gone, he's the only guy he might get a decent return or actually clear the cap space needed to sign more important guys.

I obviously agree, I'm also thinking it's pretty likely that his premonition will come to pass.

I'm not sure (read: highly doubt) the market is going to get stronger for any of those players this off season.

Seems like GMs are gradually learning that in the salary cap era, particularly when the cap may stay flat, keeping your picks and prospects is important.

Meh, would have liked to see Tyutin moved, but realized that was going to be tough sell. Fine with Hartnell staying. Not sure what was going on with Rychel.
