Isn't that what St Louis picked him up for? 11 SOG's in 10 games doesn't scream effectiveness.

Barzal and Dobson are very good players but they are NOT elite. You cannot win giving them both elite money for very good production.

Agreed, Toronto should have traded one of them. They’d probably be playing better , and the players/assets they would have received would have helped them bigly now and in the future.

Elite money is 11 plus million. Not 9 that barzal gets. Also Dobson won't be commanding that as well. Translation they are getting paid to be very good

That being said, they're down from 32.3 shots a game to 25. If they can get the shots back up and keep their shooting percentage from dipping too low again they'll be in good shape

I know it is McDavid but I was watching the Oilers and Senators last night and McDavid scored on a simple shot from the slot area. I thought to myself, "there is not a player on the Islanders who has a quick release to score from there."

We were at a 20-year low for the league at around 7%

We’re approaching the 20 game mark and I am not surprised that we are near the playoff bubble. Technically, we are now the eighth team in the playoffs and the last wildcard in our conference.

I wouldn’t take much solace in that since we are also one of nine teams within three points of the bottom. The seven teams above us seem to be putting a little distance between our squad and the remainder of the division.

One other note: We are 4W-7L in regulation games.

Injuries notwithstanding, this team cannot compete with the heavyweights of the league.
