maybe try to trade shore for iginla? shore played college in colorado... and Iginla's name literally is IG - IN - LA (heh) iggy has his cup run like vinny last year and we get more right wingers.

gaborik - kopitar - brown/iginla

pearson - carter - toffoli

king - dowd - brown/iginla

andreoff - lewis - setoguchi

clifford, nolan

I would be ok with this but Iggy has less left in the tank than VL had last year. And that says something considering how injured VL was.
Side note have you ever googled Iginla's full name..if not do it

Nah. I think it is the Avs who wouldn't want to do this. Not the Kings.

Mackinnon is a beast. He's only 21 and has a 6.3m cap hit for the next 7 years through his prime. That's pretty sweet.

After Iginla's contract runs out after this season and with the difference in what Kopi and Mackinnon make the Kings would be gaining almost 10m in cap space.

Avs wouldn't go for it.

This is actually an interesting proposal. Would never happen, but I think its one of those high risk, high reward moves. I think Carter could take over the no. 1 slot with Kopitar gone, MacKinnon would be great as a 2C, and with the $10MM in freed up cap space, we can resign both Toffoli and Pearson, and have some change left over for a depth player. I know how important Kopitar is to our team defense, but with Sutter's system, I don't see a massive drop off by switching Kopitar with MacKinnon.

Colorado would make this move because they are desperate at this point. They either do a rebuild, or take their chances with one of the best two-way centers in the league and a power-forward (with high price tag though) that was a captain of two cup winning teams. They get playoff proven players that could right the ship with the young team they have.

Do you think a deal could be made around Kopitar and Brown for MacKinnon and Iginla? We'd have to take back more salary some way for the year. I just don't see this team having any sort of future with the Brown contract and although it would kill to lose Kopitar it could be the better move for the long run. Or would the Avs just laugh at the thought of taking on those contracts?

If LA was going rebuild and Colorado was in win now mode this deal would make more sense.
Neither of those two things are true.

Kopitar and Toews are what Stanley cup centers look like. May not put up the most goals, but they can shut down any line and be out in any situation. I like Mackinnon but this just is an EA pipe dream.

In March last season Sutter put Brown and Carter together and Brown scored in three straight games. It might be hard to believe, but Jeff Carter was involved in every one of Dustin Brown's last five points in March and April of 2016. I don't know how to embed NHL.com videos, but you can see their teamwork here.

I would like to see Brown and Carter together again. That pair really clicked for a time last season, but for no good reason Sutter never went back to it this season. The two play a similar style with a similar mentality. Attack the net with speed, shoot when you can.

In 2015-16 Brown scored 4 goals of his 8 goals during 5 vs. 5 play with Carter, despite only playing 144 out of 1082 minutes with Carter.

I'd go with:

Pearson-Kopitar-Gaborik
Brown-Carter-Toffoli
King-Dowd-Lewis/Setoguchi
Clifford-Shore-Andreoff/Nolan

Thanks, who knew? It's strange they haven't been tried more, those are some pretty impressive numbers even with a small sample size. That's like four 5v5 goals in 8 or so games from Brown, sign me up.

I'll give you ONE guess the number of times the Kings have given up 5 or more goals in a game (I don't count shootout goals) this year out of 27 games. Just ONE guess.

Don't let a good fact get in the way of your imagination, Trofoli.

... :shakehead ....

The point was when soft goals go in it's not really say Brown's fault.

Also, please don't mock/temp the hockey gods hours before a game. ;)

Great quote from Sutter that describes the Kings perfectly (although talking about Detroit):

On whether Detroit plays a different style of play with personnel having evolved:
Well, for sure, when you start moving Lidstrom, Chelios, Datsyuk, as those guys get older, those guys were a great possession, slow-it-down, make-the-play game. And actually, as well as they’ve done over the years, when your team is always in the playoffs and always doing really well, you’re generally not drafting at the high end of the draft, which means that you have to wait for guys, you get a lot of role guys, you get checking, grinder, that type of guy, so your skill’s going to change. I’m sure that’s what they feel they’re going through now.

Jon Rosen just posted on twitter that Quick wont be back until at least March....:help:

And he may need time to get up to NHL speed.

Could always trade for a good backup, but then after giving up assets you can only protect one of Quick/New guy in the expansion.

Someone had a follow up conversation ( I think it was lebrun) saying he is still on schedule for mid February, and March was a worst case scenario.

Some of the stuff Kings fans post in social media blows my mind, someone tweeted The Mayor that we should trade Tanner Pearson for Iginla

Must be someone who hasn't moved past NHL 2003.

A turd like Bernstein will entertain those ideas though, anything to get the gullible dummies to believe in the crap that they spew on the internet.

Doughty not on ice for Kings' morning skate. Spoke the other day about a little problem. Maybe groin?

Doughty has been nursing what he called "a small problem," but said he's fine to play vs. Detroit.

speaking of kings fans, where have they all gone?

we use to rock the PGT and GDT etc

we barely get to 10 pages

did we seriously have this many poser fans?

Man, Iginla looks like a child there.

Still remember that crazy trade, one that worked out for both parties...one of my favorites ever, Niewyndyk, for baby Iginla.

A lot have headed for greener pastures for a variety of reasons...not sure what the attendance is like at other boards, but some are fed up of the site administration here, the other fans talking down to Kings fans here, and some have just headed out happy after two sunsets after 40 years of failure. Hell, some just don't have time for the message board any more due to life; hell, I was most active here as a student and then the real world slapped me in the face :P Some of it is we've talked some issues to absolute death, to where we just nod in acknowledgement at each other in some cases...Kopitar's december slumber, Brown's lessened physicality, Randy Jones, Cloutier, etc...and I don't mean it in a negative way, but with the management being static (even stagnant, depending on your view), there's not a whole lot of innovation going on behind the scenes, either, so talking about potential new coaches/GMs/systematics and so on is kind of meh right now, too. I guarantee once something big happens one way or another we'll see another surge. But right now, Kings hockey on and off the ice is fairly vanilla. Doesn't mean I and others don't love it, of course.

Plus, like the Kings, the regular season means nothing to us ;)

I know I am on here a lot less this years than last year do to work...stupid actually having to do work during work hours and not dick around on the computer.

Put me in the "there just isn't a whole lot to talk about that hasn't been beaten to death" camp.

A small groin ? Seems like a large problem.

I just hate the ads. I can't use my phone here due to pop ups. All I can see is the inside of people's nose here so it's not worth mevery risking frustration. This is how all good things start to ie.

Work and school full time. Life problems. I hardly can watch much of the games a lot of the time.

And I just don't have much to say.

And we live in a society currently where people avoid ads like the plague. The NFL is wondering where the fans have gone too, TV ratings are down and they don't know why. What they don't bring up is The Red Zone Channel. No commercials, no crap match ups, this is what people watch. So it's not so much that ratings are down and fans are leaving as much as the NFL Network has found TV genius for football fans. As fort the Kings-they're bi-polar as I said when the season started. They're gonna play 2 games where they look like they could contend and then they will play 2 games where you want most of the roster traded. You'll be aggravated by some of the Kings contract woes. You'll be aggravated by the ice time handed out by the coach to players who aren't deserving and lack any sort of offensive ability. They are who we thought they were.
