I just read scuderi is hurt and isn't even on the trip to vegas So maybe he ll end up on ltir and that might save us a little cash I also think if he goes down and still wants to play put him in manchester he ll be closer to home.

I have a lot of fan love for Scuderi. Hoping for good things for him and his family. Door closes, window opens kind of thing.

Based on the morning quotes, Sutter seems high on Kempe. I wonder if he will get a shot opening night with Pearson suspended and Gaborik injured? He says Kempe has already adjusted to the NA ice and just needs experience. If he is not a defensive liability, he is certainly a better option than Shore.

He might get a look because of what you mentioned.
But experience is kind of a loaded word.
Where would he get more experience, the NHL playing 7-10 minutes a night or in the AHL playing 20?
And in the AHL playing in all situations.

if hes making this team hes playing top 6 mins He would be wasted in the bottom 6 even if hes 3rds line c hes getting 12 -14 He will not be a 4th line player and that what 7=10 mins players are

THat's as high of praise as I have ever seen Sutter heap on a potential rookie.

Would love him to get a look but if he's not going to play at least 3rd line minutes would really love him to continue to dominate the AHL and be ready for a callup.

Hes really, really raw and inconsistent in my experience but maybep laying up at a 'smoother' level without the sloppiness of the AHL maybe he looks different

Agree that full time AHL is more valuable, but just having him up for a couple of games as 70's replacement would provide him with invaluable experience. Getting a taste of the NHL game/speed so that he gets a taste of that would be awesome.

So there you have it. I'm guessing our Defensive pairs to start the season will be

Muzzin-Doughty
Mcnabb-Martinez
Forbort-Gilbert
Greene

Gravel-Ladue will be first pair in Ontario.
Cernak-Lintuniemi
Macdermid-Loverde
Sharipzyanov

Who am I missing.

Cernak and Lintuniemi will be on the bubble, as will Sharpie. Not enough room at the inn. One or two will go to the OHL-ECHL this season and play next year. LoVerde and Trotman will be gone next season. Leslie-Trotman may be a pairing. And if Scuderi ends up in ONT, there is even less room.

Sutter has been playing a line of Brown - Kempe - Seto for several pre season games now (they'll be a line tonight as well)

I wonder if it's a line that Sutter is considering for the regular season. Could be an interesting line.

I'm pretty sure Kempe is just a place-holder for Kopitar. That might be our first line on opening day.

Now that you reminded me, what will his CAP against Kings salary cap situation be? Fairly sure, even if send to minors, part of Scuderis salary (200k?) will count against the Kings CAP.

Anybody knows what happens if Scuderi refuses to report to the minors or if a handshake agreement is reached between Scuderi and DL in which Scuderi doesn't get cut to the minors?

If Scuderi refuses to report to AHL he could be suspended and Kings wouldn't have to pay him (he would not count against cap).

I think that's unlikely. What could happen is Scuderi and Lombardi agree to send him down (reducing the cap hit to almost nothing) and Scuderi is healthy scratched for 68 straight games (ie retires without retiring). Doesn't join team by mutual agreement, but would be on the roster on paper to get his money.

He only has to beat out Shore/Dowd for the 3C spot.

I don't think this is that big of an issue. The Kings my be icing 4 bottom 6 lines next year. :shakehead

They could leave Kempe up for a couple games, it wouldn't hurt him.

Pretty much. Give him a couple games, see how it looks. Then if you have to send him down he got some experience at the NHL level and knows what he has to do to make it. Give him a taste to get him hungry.

Edit:
Where the **** is Ron with our game day thread? This has been a tough year, loosing Looch/Scuderi/Brown... now Ron...

Surprising moves could be the Kings letting Seto go and letting Mersch and Kempe make the team. Possible trading Dwight King.

Kempe-Kopitar-Brown
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Mersch-Dowd-Purcell
Clifford-Shore-Lewis
Extras Andreoff, Nolan - Latta in the AHL

Shore probably makes the team, just because the Kings are really hurting for effective Centers.

Andy is better at wing than center.

If Kempe make's the team could it be possible that he would center Carter or Toffoli and we would keep Dowd as a 3rd C, seems like he has made the team.
He would still stay as center as long as he is with Kings and Carter would be pushed to a winger.
Idea would be to keep Kempe playing one position if he is to stay with Kings.
What do you think, could Sutter keep him as a center not if you would keep but would Sutter.

Pearson-Kempe-Toffoli/Carter

A better use of resources would be to use Kempe as a 3C.

The Kings want to increase their speed and transition through the middle of the ice, also center depth.

You don't accomplish that, by putting Kempe/Carter together.

Kopitar
Carter
Kempe
Dowd

I like that look better. In the current NHL you need a top 9, top 6 is now old school.

Kempe looked impressive, but I think Dowd has impressed more. Kempe just has that extra gear/skill that Dowd doesn't have. If Kempe can end up as 3C, Dowd already looks better than any 4C we've had in recent memory. Both these guys seem to be grabbing the opportunity, whereas Shore has played solid but hasn't hit expectations.
