I just don't think we can afford to lose Martinez's puck moving ability for our backend especially for a team that is struggling so much offensively.

The stats are really ugly for this season.

Only two 20 goal scorers, two 50 point players and no 100 PIM players.

Most boring product the Kings have put out since the 2002-03 season which was a total loss due to the Deadmarsh/Allison injuries. Even then, Palffy was still a stud and more fun to watch than any of the Kings players this season, save for maybe Doughty and Quick.

The following season was worse in the sense that Palffy got hurt and there wasn't a lot of skill on the team, but Avery was a loose cannon that at least provided the sense of "who knows what will happen tonight" versus the Kings this season where you already knew what was going to happen.

The most exciting player on this team is our goalie. Says a lot about Quick but also a lot about the team in front of him or, at least, how the team in front of him plays now.

You just have to make sure you get a puck mover in another deal, say in a potnetial Carter deal, or you make sure one is included in any Martinez deal, even if you end up downgrading from say a 2nd and prospect to a 3rd and puckmover.

Sabres fan, it appears the Kings need to get younger. Cheaper.

What would it cost for Trevor Lewis? something around Zemgus Girgensen?

Any word on the off season injury status or procedures for our guys. One nice thing is Quick looked great upon his return, I didn't see him hold up or baby anything and with his fiery presence on the ice I feel he is like another Captain.

Curious to see about Kopitars forearm and Toffolis hip in particular. Rumors about Gabby's knees have surfaced, and Muzzin got banged up for team Canada, was there any long term implications that will have to be addressed this summer?

Should be an interesting summer. I know the majority think we lose Lewis in the offseason to Vegas, and in the past I was critical of resigning him but now that we shed King, and hopefully Clifford this offseason, Lewis, his speed and forcheck ability would look great as long as it is harnessed in the bottom 6. I really hope Vegas grabs McNabb.

And while I mention being hard on people I have been on Shore in the past but he did put together a nice little season.

Next year I hope we temper expectations for Kempe. I can see him being an above average to real good third liner that can open up room with his speed and provide that secondary scoring. Reminds me of a better more lethal Lewis if molded right that can be called up to the top 6 on emergency role.

I love our young Defence and there cheap contracts but I think 1 may get traded for more immediate help. All of Forbert, Gravel and LaDue took huge steps this year. Hope we can keep them all and I would even gamble on a Gravel LaDue bottom pairing as their poise and positioning are there. Let them evolve from there.

I am not sad about DL and Sutters departure. They grew stale but I will always love what they gave us. 2 cups in three years is as good as it gets.

This team still does have meat on the bone and I think we can still compete with the best with the proper coach and system. These guys are 30 ish but for every guy like Richards and even Brown there are guys like Thorton, Marleau, Jagr, Lidstrom, Hasek that defy the laws of aging.

Kopitar is a horse, was injured, got behind by missing time, and started to claw his way back the last half playing with questionable wingers.

Carter is still big, fast and skilled and even in a few years if the pivot position gets to rough, we know he is a deadly winger who has a nasty shot. Let's put it this way, everyone loves Toffoli who will get paid a boatload. Even if Carter loses speed he still will be faster then Tyler and have just as deadly shot.

Quick is a top physical specimen, made of Gumbi, and raging inside. He's got quite a few years left as goalies play well into there mid thirties consistently

Doughty is 27 and an Elite stud. Nothing else needed to say

With all this pessimism I hope a few guys and gals here still have some room for optimism.

I met Blake in person on his second stint here. The guy took time on a cold day to stand outside the bus and sign a few autographs and talk hockey. Even as a player he had knowledge of a few prospects in our system and was open to talking shop. I will give him the benefit of the Dought and see what he does. His first two moves are solid.

Imagine if Richards and Brown never declined. And if Gaborik kept playing like he did in the 2014 playoffs.

Brown-Kopitar-Toffoli
Pearson-Richards-Carter
Gaborik-Kempe-Iginla
Clifford-Dowd-Lewis

That'd easily be one of the best forward groups in the entire NHL.

Plus Voynov in the top 4 for the defense. These players ****ed it up.

Even with the loss of Voynov, if we still had that forward group we'd be in good shape.

What were we in GA this year? 5th? Our D is fine. Although I do miss the 3 righties/3 lefties with a shutdown style guy on each pair.

Scuderi/Doughty
Mitchell/Voynov
Martinez/Greene

so so good..

Voynov was the biggest **** up.

Muzzin-Doughty
Forbort-Voynov
Martinez-Gravel
McNabb

All 7 of those guys for just over $22 million. Easily would be one of the top 3 units in the NHL.

Although I have my suspicions that Martinez would've been traded had they kept Voynov. Maybe in the Lucic deal? Also believe Pearson would've been traded had they re-signed Lucic.

Muzzin for Jonathan Drouin.

Then Toffoli for Noah Hanifin.

Framework for a fair deal exists in both cases, temporary cap savings on the blueline, and we get younger in the process. Retool jump-started.

Tampa won't go for that. Maybe Palat, but the Kings may have to add.

Hanifin I'm not sure is worth Toffoli, assuming he can bounce back. This seasons version of Toffoli I would move.

I'd add to get Drouin; I'd prefer they best guy the have, could also be the likeliest to be moved depending on the relationship of Drouin/Yzerman. I doubt there'd be an add to get Palat. Either would be nice. Tampa could use a guy like Muzzin on the left side, he'd slot in behind Hedman with no pressure. Easy to envision him bouncing back there.

Hanifin has lots of potential, already a 2nd pairing guy in Carolina. But who knows, even with a lame season Toffoli is an established commodity. Perhaps if Carolina needed to even it out they'll take a contract off of us, like Gaborik with some finesse. Perhaps they need help reaching the cap floor? Wishful thinking but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

If Brown still scored in 13-14 I'm not sure they get Gaborik. If Gagne didn't get hurt in 2011, I'm not sure they get Carter. Only reason Carter was even available is he played himself out of Columbus. Then of course nobody trades Simmonds and Schenn figuring Richards is done before 30. Life does what it does though.

Quick has six years left and is one year older.

Bishop's cap hit was already higher than Quick's this season.

Maybe Bishop signs for something similar to Quick's cap hit but Quick signed a circumventing deal so the Kings are paying him $7MM for three more years before it drops to $3.5MM and then $2.5MM. So they have $30MM in actual dollars left to pay Quick.

Bishop at $5MM per for four years solves cap and less actual dollars, but I have a hard time believing that he signs only a four year contract.

Also, we are ignoring the fact that Quick is better. If we are worried about Quick's health as he ages, we probably shouldn't be lining up to try out what a guy Bishop's height looks like when he's 33-34.

Oh, and Quick would wear the C if organizations other than clown shoe organizations put the "C" on the goalie.

The reason i went with 4 years is he can still sign another deal after without it ending up as a 35+ deal

Yes quick is the better goalie but the real question is how much better will we be if we can get some scoring and have bishop to replace quick I say we would be a playoff team
