Reimer sums up in the quote below how many here might describe the player know as Sugar Shawn Thornton. Article by the Associated Press gives a review of his career as he gets ready to play in his last NHL game. Class act all the way. Enjoy whatever awaits you and thanks in particular for your time and effort as a Bruin.:handclap:

"Saying he's been a heart and soul guy, even that does him an injustice," Panthers goaltender James Reimer said. "He's beyond that. His whole career, he's played the game the right way. He's battled hard, he's fought hard, he's stuck up for his teammates. He's just been the ultimate pro, the ultimate teammate."

Jeez, that's high praise for a guy that if you read the main boards you would swear is the biggest POS in the sport next to Marchand. :sarcasm:

Yeah, I mentioned Orpik the Fainting Goat on the main boards and I swear one Habs fan got a case of the vapors so bad, he had to breathe into a paper bag and lie down for a while.

SUNRISE, Fla. — For Shawn Thornton, getting to the NHL was not easy.

Same goes for leaving.

The last game of Thornton's 20-year pro career — the first half spent grinding in the minors before he got to the NHL for good — comes Saturday night, when he and the Florida Panthers play host to the Buffalo Sabres. The Panthers play their season finale Sunday in Washington, and Thornton isn't making the trip.

He's going out on his terms, on home ice, with a tall glass of celebratory scotch in his postgame plans.

"A lot of years, a lot of punches in the face, a lot of miles on the bus," Thornton said. "But then a lot of charter flights, a lot of filets on those charter flights. It's the best job in the world."

And now it's ending.

Outside of the Bolts/Habs and the PB's not aware of too many other games on for tonight. There is however the Gold medal game between Canada and the USA at the womens world hockey championships. These two top teams have had many epic battles for years. Expect no less tonight as the final game is played in Plymouth Michigan.

TSN is broadcasting in Canada now. Not sure who might be doing the same in the USA.

My memory may be selective, but I don't recall a recent year in which the playoffs were determined enough in advance that the last weekend of the regular season + was so meaningless.

I'm no fan of the playoff format, and I know that's not totally to blame.

I am glad we Bruins fans aren't sweating bullets and scoreboard watching, needing help from others to make the playoffs, though.

TB might do there jobs, just don't know if Leafs will loose both games,Meaningless games for Pitts and Columbus. But we can hope!

The Leafs looked jittery last night. First real pressure for that young team, veterans have bad memories of collapses...yes, there is hope.

Cool of Reimer to say that. And about anyone who has played with Thornton on any team would say the same thing if asked. Easily one of my favorite Bruins. It sucks that the NHL doesn't have more tough guys like him, but instead has too many gutless weasels.

I would be way too happy if the leafs missed the playoffs after the dom moore penalty game... slim chance but everything is going wrong for them.
