Neither team was even trying to score in the last 10 minutes.

The system is SO bad

I'm tired of loser points. If the league won't go to the three point system, maybe they should look at this:

2 points for a regulation or OT win
0 points for a regulation or OT loss
1 point each if it goes to a shootout

Tie breaking procedures:
1. Fewer number of games played
2. Greater number of points earned head to head
3. Greater number of shootout wins
4. Goal differential

Shootouts are way more important than they should be. No more loser point, getting to the shootout means you only get one point so there will be incentive to actually freakin win. There shouldn't be any reward for losing outright, you should only feel shame.

Why would they even play the shootout? And why would the crowd be excited to see a game decided? For highly unlikely tie breaking purposes down the line?

Wow - thanks SO much!

And when you said 'Hurry to your neighborhood club' you weren't kidding. The rink in the link you attached isn't far from me at all. In fact, I'll show my age and say I scored my first hat trick there (cough cough in 1977 as a kid ;). Geez I sound like Al Bundy... ).

The site even had a viewing party for "Curling Night in America," which is what I stumbled across last night on NBCSN.

So thanks again, Sharp Shooting Neely, and also Coach Parker and Bruinfanatic - I will admit my first exposure to Curling was back in 2010 during the Olympics, waiting for a hockey game to start. Without getting into disallowed territory, I'll just say the star that caught my attention was Cheryl Bernard. ;)

Back to hockey - it looks like Columbus has an early lead on the Islanders, which could help the Bruins. But then again with the Senators' injuries and the Habs in free-fall, the B's should just go ahead and win the division and forget about the wild card - ha!

My pleasure. Do hope you get the opportunity to check it out. Having played somewhere in the neighbourhood of 12 or so sports in my time, have no hesitation in saying curling is by far the most social sport for the players that you could ever be involved with. If you do get out to give it a go let us know how you make out. You certainly honed in on a (cough, cough) tremendous player in your first glimpse of the sport while tuning into the 2010 Olympics. She moved into the broadcast booth a couple of years back. First saw her play as a very young adult in the early 90's. A very nice person who remains an believable fitness fanatic following her competitive playing days.

The Isles took it on the chin last night. They have about a dozen or so road games remaining in their schedule and they have not been a very good road team at all this season. They could fall out of the race very quickly which of course provides another possible option for the B's to get in the PO's.
