Doesn't make sense at all. They're not gonna split up Bracco and White, given their chemistry lol. It's like splitting up getzlaf and perry -.-

They split up Milano - Eichel - Tuch in last year's tournament despite 2 years of dominating chemistry.

Halvy over Ned. It was that way on the 2015 team as well.

By that logic Adam Erne would have made the 2015 team over Tyler Motte, seeing as Erne, and not Motte, was on the 2014 team.

Halverson and Nedeljkovic will battle for the starting role. Who was the backup last year will have very little relevance in a new tournament to a new staff. If Halverson is the starter it's because he'll perform better in the camps and during his OHL season rather than because he was chosen to sit on the bench in last year's tournament behind the clear starter. The fact that Nedeljkovic is missing the August camp due to injury will help Halverson more than the fact that Halverson was sitting on the bench last year.

I agree with inviting Keller. If the forward depth wasn't already so strong at the 96, 97 level he would have initially been invited. IF anything else, it will be good for him to have the experience for next year.

Hope Dvorak makes the team but he plays in the O so someone who's not as good but plays for a USA hockey program will get a nod over him -.-

That being said our team looks solid. Krys is a player I'm excited to watch

Not sure if Hanifan will be there but he doesn't need to be rushed to NHL either, and Larkin is probably NHL ready.

We should be good regardless

Split squad rosters announced.

Also, dual citizen d-man Jake Walman, who was invited to the WJC camps for both Team USA and Team Canada has turned down Team Canada's invite and will be at this camp.

It was going to be very tough for him to to make Team Canada, and odds were he was going to be passed over. Frankly- looking at the potential 7 US D-Men, i think there is no guarantee that he even makes Team USA. However, others might be better informed. What do you think about his chances to make Team USA Bonney?

To be honest I'm not all that familiar with Walman. Other than the National Championship, I don't remember watching a full Providence game last year, and certainly not enough to get a great read on him. He seems like a pretty good skater that has a developing two-way game.

I haven't seen a lot of the Canadian d-men play much so I'm not sure which team would be harder to make; although, the top end of the LHD depth chart is stronger for Team USA (Hanifin, Werenski) than Team Canada. But it depends on what happens with Hanifin - if he's available for Team USA, then Walman, in my opinion, is basically competing with Krys for the LHD on the third pair or a 7th d-man role. If Hanifin isn't available, the LHD spots seem less certain because after Werenski you'd have Fortunato, Jones, Krys, and Walman. I highly doubt Fortunato or Jones will really garner any real consideration for the actual team after the upcoming camp. The staff could obviously buck the LHD - RHD setup on each pair as well, especially if Hanifin isn't available.

Maybe I'm wrong in my opinion on Fortunato but I think he could be a contributor on this team. I really liked the way he played in the 2014 U-18 WC, and I saw a decent amount of BU games last year and I remember thinking to myself "he has to get a hell of a look for next years World Juniors." I really like his skating and offensive instincts with the puck.

Great insight as always. I agree with you in that everything hinges on Hanifin. I really like this potential US team for WJC 2016. No reason why they should not get at least a medal, let alone the Gold Medal, after the disappointment of 2015. A very strong, versatile and highly talented roster.

Anyone who watched the split squad games want to post their updated lineups?

I didn't get a chance to see them, and am interested in how the lines may juggle.

I didn't get to see all of the Lake Placid camp, but here's my guess at the roster (based only on players that were at camp until the end or out injured):

Forwards (x13):

Sonny Milano - Dylan Larkin - Alex Tuch
Matthew Tkachuk - Auston Matthews - Brock Boeser
Kyle Connor - Colin White - Jeremy Bracco
Erik Foley - Scott Eansor - Anders Bjork
Jack Roslovic

Defense (x7):

Noah Hanifin - Louie Belpedio
Zach Werenski - Brandon Carlo
Chad Krys - Ryan Collins
Charlie McAvoy

Goalies (x3):

Brandon Halverson
Alex Nedeljkovic
Evan Sarthou

Notes:
  • The forward group is really deep even without Eichel. You could make strong cases for a lot of guys to make the team. The fight to make the roster and/or certain lines is going to be fun to follow.
  • I'm pretty confident my top 9 forwards will all be on the team. I think the bottom 4 is where the shuffling could take place. Eansor and Bjork had great weeks though and both are perfect prototypes for what USAH likes to do with the "pest" line. My lineup might be too '97 heavy, so I could see them lean towards some of the '96s (Bittner, Dvorak, etc.) over Foley or Roslovic.
  • Easiest forward to leave off the team was Schmaltz. He just doesn't have what it takes to make an impact in this tournament. He's extremely talented, but he doesn't apply himself and he plays with no intensity. He was invisible in last year's tournament. He was invisible in this camp. I wouldn't even bother inviting him to the December camp unless he's absolutely destroying the NCAA and even then I wouldn't expect him to make the team or have any impact if he did.
  • The defense definitely doesn't have the depth to match the forward group. They really need Hanifin to be available. If he's not available I would add Walman to the team. I have no interest in Collins making the team, but USAH likes him, so I'm sure he'll be there.
  • There's usually always a few players not at summer camp that end up getting invited to the December camp and/or possibly making the team. In terms of forwards, I think that's a lot less likely to happen this go around given the depth of the forwards at the camp. Defense is another story, especially if Hanifin isn't available. This screams INVITE CHYCHRUN.

I pretty much agree with WHB, though I'd probably switch Boeser and Roslovic. Also, Collins was awful this past week so if they go with him I think it likely ends up being a massive mistake.

I'd love to see them do anything possible to get Chychrun into the December camp but it just seems so unlikely at this point.

Here was my take in no line order

Conner - Eansor - Bjork
Tkachuk - Larkin - Dvorak
Milano - Matthews - Tuch
Bittner - White - Bracco / Boesser / Roslovic

Hanfin - Werenski
Belpedio - Carlo
Walman - Mccloud
Fortunado

F's : I Think Dvorak will be there in the end, way to much skill / scoring to leave off and also is a Center so that's another option. Bittner is deserving of a spot also but Tkachuk really played like a monster so with Tuch and tkachuk , Bitt might get caught in #'s game. Turgeon was given every opportunity and Idk if he took advantage. Agree on Schmaltz, he does nothing for me but he will be on team, USA hockey loves him. Hitchcock might be in same situation as Bitt , a #'s game. Didn't see enough of Foley but he seemed to be a high energy guy.

D : Hanafin - Werenski always have been good together, don't need to say much. In white vs Sweden, Belpedio- Carlo were really good together in all 3 zones, especially breaking puck out of their zone. Those are top 4 for sure. Walman showed signs that he can really play and Fortunado just makes plays. Mccloud ( injured ) should be there in the end fighting for a spot, Krys is very talented, just to immature but it's USA hockey so you never know. Mcavoy was below avgand is going to struggle in 1st 1/2 of NCAA, NcAA players are just to big ,strong and fast. Jones has the best chance to impress by going to WHL but still to risky for me. Collins has to work on his speed, I was expecting a lot more out of him but USA hockey loves him.

G's
Ned
Halverson
probably a 1997 for experience, Opilka ?

Roslovic - Matthews - Tkachuk
Milano - Larkin - Tuch
Connor - White - Bracco
Bittner - Dvorak - Boeser
Schmaltz

Hanifin - Krys
Werenski - Belpedio
Carlo -McAvoy
Collins

Just wow on the forwards. So much depth. Can't see Dvorak not making it and Schmaltz is loved by USA Hockey and is a special team wizard. Both will be there.

Offensively this could be the best group assembled...so much skill and talent on all lines, I don't care for grinders just bring our skill this time. Larkin, White, Roslovic, Dvorak all can bring it both ways all skilled two way players.

Defensively isn't great but shouldn't be an issue..we have a fee horses to ride and carry the load. I hate Collins but as it stands USA Hockey loved his size so he is here until someone else steps up.

Out of the American players who weren't invite to this camp, who do you guys think has a shot at surprising the brass, getting invited to the winter camp and. Possibly even making the team?
