Leaf fans in general don't think your team is garbage. Most of us have a lot of respect for the opinion of the guru of hockey commentators, Bob McKenzie, who thinks your team is the pre-tournament favorite.

Whoever is the favorite, this looks like the best balanced and most unpredictable tournament I can recall. I can't recall as promising a Finnish team on paper. The Swedes and Russians are always tough and you guys have great talent, especially up front. And Canada should never be counted out. Moreover, there are a number of very impressive and creative individual players on the rosters. Here's to an exciting and, I hope, injury free tournament.

So so far we got DeBrincat and Belpedio for sure, and no Tuch, Bracco, or Garland.

I'm just so excited for Scott Eansor.

I think the camp will be mostly older ( 96's ) that are very responsible in their own zone. Most of them can score too.

This will be a "team". There will be specific roll players for pk, Dzone faceoffs, etc.

There are going to be a few more snubs so get prepared.

A few more snubs to come

I don't undestand how Tuch doesn't even get an invite.

IMO the answer is fairly straight-forward: they've already picked their team and the guys who get the extra invites are the younger ones who they want to get the experience of being at camp. We'll see if I'm right but that would be my guess.

Ya obviously that's the answer ...the question is why isn't Tuch on this team. Brutal decision making

Tkachuk-Matthews-Roslovic
Milano-Schmaltz-Boeser
Connor-White-DeBrincat
Bellows-Dvorak-MacInnis

should be the U.S.A's line combos, IMO.

The first line has instant chemistry from their days with the USNDTP.

Similar reasoning with Schmaltz-Boeser on the second line - instant chemistry. Milano adds another explosive element on that off wing, and his hands, Schmaltz' playmaking, and Boeser's shot, which might be the best outside of the NHL, should combine to form a deadly offensive assault.

Connor and White provide enough two-way ability to compensate for DeBrincat, while also adding significant offensive punch in their own right. White has been very much a playmaker, among the best in the NCAA, with BC thus far, and should enjoy playing with two excellent shooters in Connor and DeBrincat.

Bellows might be a bit of a shock, but it's always nice to get the future stars a little experience, plus he'll be insulated by two older guys that can do a lot of the heavy lifting on a dangerous fourth line. Dvorak might be underutilized on the fourth line, but I suspect that he's going to get plenty of time on special teams.

Let me know if I've made any egregious omissions and/or errors.

I totally disagree.

I think there are 3-4 F spots and 2-3 D spots that will be decided in camp. Plus #1 Goalie spot

Doesn't mean best or most talented player going to get it thou.

They will "assemble" what they think is best total team IMO

Bittner,Bjork, Eansor, Foley and Turgeon will have a say in that if invited to camp.

I think 2 of your list won't even be in camp.

lines 2 and 3 are interchangeable on who is officially called the 2nd line.

It will depend on who develops chemistry the fastest, with the Boeser and Schmaltz's line having an advantage.

I wouldn't be surprised to see debrincat on the first line with Matthews.

This may be a stupid question.

How is Sonny Milano allowed to play in the AHL?

I thought the only 19 year olds allowed to play in the AHL were europeans because those are considered men's leagues.

That rule only applies to players drafted out of the CHL. Milano joined Plymouth after he was drafted.

Milano was drafted out of the USHL, not the CHL. That's why.

I'm surprised Tuch won't be there but he didn't have a great summer camp and hasn't taken a big step forward in his development this season. I think there would definitely be a role for him on the team but I'll wait to see what they have in mind with who they bring before passing judgement.

I think it's amusing how everyone hates the grind line concept. The last time the US won gold the Pietila-Bardreau-Hartman line was one of the best on the team. It's often as hard to put together a line that clicks in that role as it is to put together a line which clicks offensively but they can both be very useful to the success of a team in a short tournament. If a team fails there will always either be too many skill players or not enough according to someone's interpretation. It's an oversimplification that is a total cliche.

People laugh at guys like Eansor, Turgeon, Bittner, Bjork, etc. but you can put them into positions of responsibility on the 4th line and they will get the job done. Players like Garland and Bracco can't/won't fill that role and won't be on this team's top 6. It's a math issue.
