Crazy trivia question hoping someone can answer. Can anyone name the last few draft eligible US players to make the team that were not playing college, NTDP, or CHL in that draft year? Auston Matthews is one, but I can't think of any others. Thinking of guys playing USHL, HS, etc.

Off the top of my head, Danny Kristo (USHL) and Brian Lee (High School).

That is a damn impressive memory. Looks like Kristo was already drafted, but Lee did it.

Memory can be faulty as I always think of Kristo as a late birth date player after seeing a typo years ago. I'll never forget Brian Lee's hilarious failed break away attempt coming out of the penalty box in '05 though. There was plenty of consternation over him making the team rather than Jack Johnson and that poured some fuel on the fire.

Since we're off topic here, I'll take a moment to say hooray for beating Canada. As an Eansor backer, I'll admit he had a terrible game. I do feel somewhat vindicated in being a big Belpedio proponent for a while now though. It's early in the tournament though so we'll see how it all goes the next few games.

Blake Wheeler was in high school when he was drafted then played a year in the USHL, but I just noticed he didn't play on the 2004 Gold Medal squad. Shucks.

So I'm guessing he's not going to be suspended and we can all move on from this.

Sweden should be a good game. Still nervous that our D can't really contain a team like Sweden.

Going to need a big game from Nedeljkovic again.

if the USA is going to win gold milano and dvorak have to do something offensively. the matthews line constantly has the puck in the offensive zone but milano and dvorak have just been invisible.

It's annoying how in tournaments we go into them asking "will we score enough goals?"

How about you stack the team with scorers and not just worry about energy lines. There are hard working talented players who don't get a look or a chance.

Don't understand how Tuch makes it last year, improved as a player and didn't make the squad.
Garland would be salvating if he played in a game like today.

Ugh

I think having a couple energy guys is fine, as long as they have skill as well, for example a guy like Max Jones who should be on the team next year. I don't understand why we elected to bring guys like Eansor, Hitchcock, Danoto, and Bjork.

I think Bjork has been pretty good in his role. The other three have been totally useless, give me Connor, Roslovic, and Tuch over them anyday.

Yeah Bjork hasn't been bad. But I'd still take the three you mentioned, as well as Bracco and Garland over him.

So Halverson's not going to play? The coach has decided that one good game is enough to know who'll be the starter for the knockout rounds?

I actually liked the way they played today. Obviously need to put the puck in the net but they did better against Sweden than I thought.
