Certainly your entitled to your opinion but Brett Hull was not a very good hockey player when he was cut by not a very good third rate Team Canada squad. Ask him.

He obviously went on to a hall of fame career as a goal scorer not as a complete hockey player.

Brett Hull didn't make either WJC squad, his decision came down to the World Championships. Every once in a while a guy develops overtime. Hull was a great scorer but he figured things out to an elite level later on.

The Sean Day thing could mean nothing and you could look back on it if he pops three or four Norris Trophies later in his career and say yeah but neither Team Canada or Team USA took him to a WJC... It remains to be seen.

Brett Hull was a great hockey player, the guy is in the HHOF and will slide to fourth all-time in goals when Jagr passes him shortly with the only active player with a realistic chance of passing him in Alex Ovechkin. His Goals per game rate is also top 10. He was a point per game player as well. The guy was an offensive juggernaut. Later in his career he learned to play passable defense and won cups.

Maybe he wasn't picked and rightfully so, but the idea that Hull wasn't a great player is pretty crazy in my opinion. He also certainly would have cracked every Canadian roster from the early 90's onward in his career. Hockey Canada got it wrong, they did not see his development path going the way it did, it didn't go the Jason Pominville route.

A great player but not a great player overall, there is a difference. I will will certainly never argue that he is not Hall of Fame worthy.

I didn't say that but the part of his game that put him in the hall and separated him from other players was the shot and the release (insane by the way). Other wise no hall of fame.
You could apply this logic to lots of great players and it'd be true, if Bure skated like an average player he wouldn't be a hall of famer or if Datsyuk had average stick handling. Hull's shot was by far the best of his era, combined with his ability to find holes in the D led to a great career. Pretty much anyone in the HHOF had some sort of skill which at one point they were top 5 in the world at, I don't think this should be held againt Hull.

This thread is now about Brett Hull's potential as a late teen.

Lol it's funny how off the rails it can go when there's nothing else to talk about. It's the calm before the storm tomorrow as by this time win or lose it will be crawling with "I told ya so" bullcrap. I doubt I'll even post tomorrow, probably just check in after the game and watch the back and forth.

Brett Hull is easily one of the most overrated players of all time. Much of that can be attributed to his last name. That still doesn't preclude him from being one of the best goal scorers of his generation.

Seems like Dave King didn't give much thought to Brett's last name, when he snubbed him for our Nats. Canada's loss ( and it was, in hindsight, a BIG LOSS ) was America's gain.

One and ONLY time Yanks won a Best on Best tourney, 1996 World Cup, Hull was a BIG part of it! He really torched team Maple Leaf in the deciding game. As for the rest?

Without bothering to check stats. How could a guy who scores 700+ career goals, and 89 ( is it? ) in a single season be over rated?

It boggles the mind...

Well put, buddy. Me either.

Rumor has it the Brett was borderline drunk before most games, and would eat donuts in between periods for a simple sugar energy rush. Imagine how good he would have been had he played sober and got himself in optimal shape?

My fault on the sarcasm angle so I'll stay away from it this time.

But in all fairness, the people who've seen both Keller and Hitchcock on a daily basis seem to have a reason to want him on the team for the role he is going to be asked to play. Much like the Eansor pick, head-to-head the process is probably a no brainer but is Keller (or Connor) better than any of the top-six forwards that made the team? (Since that is likely the roles they would have played - I'm not saying they are or aren't - only that that thought process makes some sense).

My indignation was due to the fact that Hitchcock is viewed as almost a muck-and-grinder by some on here (and I apologize for assuming that that was your intention). He is a bit more skilled than that.

Yeah, he's so much betteR than Keller and Connor. (Yes that's sarcasm)

Bure was a net hanger but a dynamic goal scorer, Datsyuk the best Russian overall to play in the NHL, Hull's shot was the best of his era. I don't mean it as a slight. I'm just pointing out that his plus was far beyond most other players while some other players made the hall with much more overall skill and game. It is beyond argument that Brett Hull deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Can someone tell me what will most likely be the line combination and d pairing for team usa? Thanks

Sounds like the Top 3 lines are pretty set

Tkachuk - Matthews - DeBrincat
Milano - Dvorak - White
MacInnis - Schmaltz - Boesner

Not as sure on the fourth line, guessing Donato and Bjork are locked in and Eansor/Hitchcock rotate at the start of the tournament.

I have a feeling USA,s 2nd line is gonna torch teams cause top pairing defence will be out vs Matthews steady

Anyone know if the game will be covered on the Radio?

I'm driving down to Philly today and will likely miss the first hour.
