well USA Hockey did it with Brett Hull, so not completely unheard of...

a bit different but Adam Deadmarsh jumped ship after making a Team Canada to the US the following year..and Tyler Myers in reverse..

I doubt it will happen, but if USA Hockey sells it right and the kid is bitter, he could come back home...either way I like the way this defense will be but now another year of speculation regardless how little the chance may be.

Hull just wasn't a very good player then. In fact with the exception of that out of the world release and shot he wasn't that great a hockey player overall anyway.

And so here we are. Brett Hull being a bad hockey player easier to buy than Team Canada not being perfect.

second time he was cut from a team Canada team.

Which was the first? He's missed a few due to injuries. Anyone else think he's a smidge overrated? Obviously the physical tools are spectacular, but I have found his decision making to be somewhat suspect, and you figure the higher up in caliber he plays the more it will be evident.

I think he's a little over rated yeah. I understand he's a good player, but sometimes fans and the media hype somebody up and they can't let it go. I feel the same way about Sean Day. I know a lot will disagree with me, but that's my opinion.

I think back to the last time we won the tournament and what always sticks out to me is how great the line of Cole Bardreau, Ryan Hartman, and Blake Pietila were.

It's good to have players who just fit a 4th line role.

Yeah, I find them to be similar in regards to them not thinking the game the way most elite prospects do. Crazy how much Day's stock has plummeted.

Haha. I thought it was just me. I've seen him live five times this year and in those particular games I thought Joshua Jacobs had better games on those days. Obviously, he's older and the numbers don't really support that though. Not to mention potential and when I saw Brian Berard I couldn't fathom him being first overall and I thought Seth Jones looked like just a turnover machine at the WJC, so I'm probably not the guy to listen to regarding young D evaluations. He just hasn't wowed me yet this year for a guy who's supposed to go top 5. Anyway, I was just curious since it seems to happen every year for every other nation.......who was the last American(s) to be released by their NHL club for WJC?

Sonny Milano is gonna tear it up.Just a gut feeling.Teams will be using best pairing vs Matthews line.

Nonsense. Hull was not a great skater obviously but he had brilliant hockey sense and the rest of his game (playmaking included) was underrated because of his great shot. Despite being one of the greatest goal scorers the game has ever seen he had nearly as many assists and stayed productive until he was 40 years old. He also developed into a very well rounded player.

Anyone who doesn't think Hull wasn't much more than a great shot lacks the ability to accurately judge the game. The way you describe him makes him sound more like Silfverberg than one of the better players of his generation.

Brett Hull is easily one of the most overrated players of all time. Much of that can be attributed to his last name. That still doesn't preclude him from being one of the best goal scorers of his generation.

So, good luck USA, just not against Canada :) but I wish you the best, very interested in this team

This post is so misinformed. Canada just screwed up.

Certainly your entitled to your opinion but Brett Hull was not a very good hockey player when he was cut by not a very good third rate Team Canada squad. Ask him.

He obviously went on to a hall of fame career as a goal scorer not as a complete hockey player.

I didn't say that but the part of his game that put him in the hall and separated him from other players was the shot and the release (insane by the way). Other wise no hall of fame.
