Invisible would be the last word anyone who watched last year could use to describe nylanders game. He was literally noticeable every time he stepped on the ice. Sweeden leaned a lot on an 18 year old last year and I thought they did well enough. This year you can expect a lot more from him and the team.

It's sad but Sweden's entire tournament IMHO rests on whether W.Nylander is loaned or not.

They still have a good team without him, but he'd definitely make them a great team.

I think we will see two different sides of Tre Kronor depending on Nylanders presents or not. We have a great 2-way squad with big player with a lot of senior experience. Without Nylander Tre Kronor grinder squad, that has to play more physical and wear down the opponent. With Nylander we can rely more on the offensive to win game for us.

I can understand if the roling of a single unit hangs on his appearance, but the entire squad...? I mean, grinders don't turn into scorers if you give them a good offensive centre forward, but scorers can still thrive even if they're centered by a guy whose strengths lie more in two-way game.

I guess we'll see. IMHO, without W.Nylander they're not a powerhouse.

will that be after the Marlies game on the 19th? I assume it would be, they wouldn't hold him back for that long, and then send him right before the last game before Christmas. I think they'd have him play it and then go.

Nope. He will play his last game on the 18th.

don't really understand that, if they're gonna hold him back that long might as well hold him back for 10 more hours and have him play the last game before Christmas.

Or does the transfer agreement that requires him to go make him have to be over there for all the exhibition games too or something?

I'm pretty certain that Sweden would've been contenders even if Nylander wouldn't have been there. He could be the one who puts them "over the top" though. He'll be Swedens star player for sure (again), but there's a lot of returnees from last year, i believe 13 players. There's plenty of good players. Even if he might be a better player today than he was 1 year ago, i would say he was a much more important piece to last years team. This years edition doesn't lack offensive scoring, that's probably our least concern.

I think it's exaggerated to think our game style and/or chances depends on one player on a squad full of draft picks and several first rounders, however I do think it puts everyone into the correct role. 2nd liners can be 2nd liners, 3rd liners can be 3rd liners. Beyond Nylander, it's hard to find complete standouts even if many are very good and are returnees.

On the other hand, the year we won we didn't have too many standouts going into the tournament since Landeskog and Larsson were in the NHL. I think this is the first time in 6 or 7 years we have every player available.

Yes.

Leafs officially announce Nylander will play for Sweden at WJC.

Will play two road games for Marlies and then fly off to Finland.

Congrats Sweden, you got Willie. Take care of him, he's been leading the AHL in scoring over here. His confidence better not be shattered when he gets back here or we're comin for ya

:sarcasm:

Lindblom (ill) and W. Nylander will join later.

Looks to me like they might put William at center with his brother. Lindblom with Holmström & Kempe.

Livearena is streaming practises. Grönborg micked up.

Really happy to see Nylander join the tournament as a hockey fan. Not particularly happy as a Canadian. His participation really puts the Swedes in contention.

Yes the 96 generation is deeph, but it is really just Nylander that is a standout talent.

Dang I was hoping you wouldn't get him since Vrana is injured for the Czechs lol. If we played you, you woulda beat us anyways
