Alright boys and girls - as to Russia vs. Denmark - go Russia! C'mon boys, show your best game today! :D

Russia will be strong in medal games.

Remember last time when they won?
QF: 3-0 down to Finland in last period, won in OT
SF: tied the game against Sweden during last minutes, won in SO
F: 3-0 down to Canada during 2nd intermission and "Canada is not Finland"

Based on IIHF stats Dergachev has 0 shots on goal. Maybe Bragin should try to integrate him with the offense a bit more.

The guy is definitely very useful though! His function isn't to shoot, but to distract the defence, get guys wide open, so that they score. Which he does very well, I find.

Ok, should Georgiev come out against the US? I've watched the Danish goals again - 2 of them came from juicy rebounds. Other than that, Georgiev hasn't looked that bad though, but rebound control is an issue. Samsonov did pretty well in his only game, but if they let him play, he might not be used to the pressure, whereas Georgiev has already played a playoff game. Looks like a difficult decision for Bragin.

I agree, but even on a 4th line (why, I don't know), he generates a tremendous amount of offense in the goal mouth, and a lot of the Russian goals have been scored while he plants his huge beastly body right in front of the net. He will overpower and overwhelm the opposition, but he can also out-finesse them. I don't know why he is being underutilized.

I favor a switch. Samsonov is probably more physically talented, but more importantly, I think a team changes its style of play when they lose confidence in their goaltender. The rink was tilted toward the Denmark goal, but among the tiny number of chances that they generated, Denmark probably scored on half of them. So there was always the feeling that, no matter how much offensive pressure was put on the Danish goal, there was always the likelihood that Georgiev would give up a goal if pressed. He has looked shaky even against lesser opponents. Anybody agree?

For sure that was the feeling, but I think it's the whole team, not just the goalie. I think even with Samsonov in net it would be quiet similar game.

I agree that it is a team effort, and that the defense has to step up. On the other hand, if the team believes the goaltender will fold under pressure and give up a goal, it takes the fight out of a lot of teams.

I hope this is the game where Kaprizov and Kuzmenko come through, esp Kaprizov.. I say put them on the same line with kamenev and sit svechnikov and lazarev for majority lf the game

I like Dergach a lot too, but the only problem is that he sometimes 'overdoes it' without actually making the pass that would make the play perfect. He goes in 'Rambo' style, but forgets to actually pass the puck to the guys who are wide open and just waiting for a perfect scoring chance. Bragin will correct that, I'm sure, but he's sort of like the 'spirit' of the team I think, the guy's a beast.

I think if young Russians squeeze past USA today it will be like miracle on ice version 2016.
But that goaltending and quite cumbersome offense of Russians, the USA will go in the match as favorites.

I agree that the US are favorites, but comments like this show that people have forgotten the gravity of the Miracle on Ice.

It was basically a WJC team beating an NHL-level all-star team.

Russia is usually only passed off as a great team if they lose to Canada or US because then its billed as some huge win.

When the reality is last year they weren't considered a top contender yet got silver. And this year on paper are considered weaker than Finland, Canada, Sweden, US. Yet they handed Finland a loss at home.

So they can be considered overachievers despite people billing them as "lazy Russians". This despite the guy who should be their most dangerous scorer, Svechnikov, being worthless.

I would call them hype favorites, but if you look past nhl draft numbers and actually look where the players on Russian team come from and what some have done on mens level, there isnt another country that boasts as many khl level players.

The only thing we're missing is elite forwards, but make up for it with 4 solid lines

I would say most importantly people don't understand Russian mentality, which is why people are so puzzled how we can look so lazy and sloppy against Danes and come out another period and whoop the fins with 4 goals or Canada with 5.. Skill is there, but that is why you need the Bragin on the team who is a great motivator specifically for Russian players

I think Bragin can motivate them enough with one picture of nice City.
Vorkuta what a lovely place.

How is Bragin not coaching the senior NT?
it'd be nice to have some success in the khl before, but there he failed.
By the way why is Svechnikov so useless ? 6 games and not a single point.
He must be some kind of Semin player really, useless for club, useless even more in NT.
Meh.
let's not belittle semin here with such comparisons.

Korshkov is amazing!

Svechnikov at least was motivated this time, although I had an impression that he has got stamina only for a half of shift, but I guess it would be known if he has any health issues.

Hope that Samsonov gets to start in the final.

If Bragin doesn't start Samsonov tomorrow, he should be hospitalized. I can't believe he wasn't the starter throughout. I thought he was brilliant today - such a great athlete, and he always gets better as the game progresses. The USA had some really good chances today that he refused to allow, so he should get a lot of credit for the win today.

Maybe Svechnikov is saving it all for tomorrow! He has so much ability to play as poorly as he has to date. Maybe tomorrow the suitcase opens.

Congratulations to Bragin! He has coached the team 5 times since 2005 (once as assistant in 2005 and 4 times as primary coach), and they have reached the Gold Medal game every time. Tomorrow let's finish the job!
