On a positive note, this will be the last we ever hear of Dave Lowry and Joe Hicketts. And Virtanen out there with under 2 minutes to go, after taking two ridiculously stupid penalties, and getting out-muscled for the puck was perfectly fitting. Blackwood was atrocious.

Looking forward to seeing Konecny when he's back in Ottawa...the kid's a gamer.

He is indeed. next year's captain... if we get him back from Philly. no guarantee of that happening.

Way too many undisciplined penalties and poor goaltending. Not a recipe for success.

The returning players were god awful for the most part. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with a player in the WJC's as much as I've been disappointed with Brayden Point. He did literally nothing of good except winning faceoffs.

A lot of passengers on this team. You will rarely ever win when only a handful of players are playing above average hockey. Didn't get key goaltending. Coaching was questionable at best. Terrible penalties.

Simple as that.

Need more from Strome in a big game, he played great in the first but where was he the rest of the game?

This has been a knock on him for some time now.

Yeah, Konecny, Barzal, Stephens, Beauvillier, Gauthier, and maybe Marner/Crouse will be back. Who knows though, NHL teams are keeping so many 19 year olds, even rushing them like Virtanen.

Clearly there wasn't room for Chychrun in this defense. I mean...how could you choose just one guy to take out?

In summary:

Lowry is a bum.
Virtanen is a big poopy bum.
IIHF refs are bums and we're too chippy for that type of play (this is a known thing but we never seem to adjust accordingly).
Blackwood is indeed a bum as well.

It's tough to win games when the bum concentration is this high, especially with the added adversity of a big poopy bum on the team.

Can't believe what I just listed to.

According to Lowry the reason they lost today was they didn't score enough goals and that they "deserved a better fate".

He is either delusion or overly protective of his players.

They deserved what they got - a loss. I thought Spott was bad, but I can now say with certainty that Lowry is much worse.

Honest question here, and I hope this doesn't come across as me kicking you all while you're down... But do you think next year will be any different for Canada? I am amazed at the players that Finland, Sweden, USA, Russia have been cranking out and I look at the 2016 draft and at the top of it in no particular order are Matthews (USA), Puljujarvi (Finland), Laine (Finland), Tkachuck (USA), Nylander (Sweden), and then yes Gauthier and Chychrun. But still, I just wonder where the talent will come from for Canada next year? Unless of course all the aforementioned non-Canadians are in the NHL next year and not in the WJC which is a possibility I guess?

Hopefully, like always coaching, discipline, and goaltending will decide how far we go.

But I was told Marner sucks(from Leafs haters here), that he has stone hands and terrible vision????

He stepped it up when it counted. What a beauty!

He is going to be amazing!

Just like RNH in 2013, Marner was only really effective on the PP. Didn't do much with the crazy amount of ice time otherwise.

Aside from that Slovakia rnh was in on 90% of Canada's points. If you weren't on the ice with nuge you weren't scoring. It was the other strome, scheifele and Murphy that lost us that tourney.

This one is entirely on Lowry, Virtanen, blackwood. Hard to single out any D because they were all bad at moving pucks and defending.

Anytime Canada ever wins there is a pair that's never scored on ES. Last year it was nurse.

Marner was great in the third! It's good to see he has a little bit of edge as well even though it wasn't good for this tournament, it'll be a plus in the NHL.

Why are you guys blaming the coach and the players. You do know there were two teams on the ice. Game could have gone either way but give some credit to Finland. I know hockey is suppose to be Canada's game, but Canada is no longer dominate like years ago. This is a very competitive tournament.

Wish Canada would go back to putting teams together that are big fast and physical.

We should be living up to our reputation of being big mean dirty bullies who steam roll their way to gold. Hate when they try and match these teams Euro style.

This year we were missing the usual big forwards who can score, in the past we had Perry, Benn, Stone etc. This year not many of those players Perlini and Gauthier were snackbitten and don't really play a power game.

If I owned the Royals I would be pretty worried right now to see your coach just obliterate Canada's chances on the big stage.

Best player for the entire tourney was probably Strome who was consistently good to decent. Marner was the best player that game but had long stretches of being invisible. Virtanen was bad all tourney, this was his best game but then he took like 4 penalties, all of which were dumb.

Dermott had a good game and a solid tourney, McKeown had his first good game. Fleury I was disappointed with, for a guy drafted that high I expected him to be a positive force out there.

Also another year where the goaltending is shaky. Can't even remember when Canada had rock solid goaltending, has been a long while. Blackwood was bad today and never inspired much confidence all tourney. I can see why Lowry was not hyped to put McDonald in either.

The biggest disappointment is Virtanen. Drafted 6th overall, returned from last year, a 'vet' on this team. It isn't just that his penalties cost them the game today, which it did. It's that his offensive performance was lacking all tourney and he didn't even put up any points until today. Just an assist. Guy comes in and shoots from everywhere, destroying his lines offence and still managed to put up no goals. Come on bud, you better get it together. Vancouver clearly needs to send him down
