How's our roster lookin for next year? This one seems to lack star power.

The issue these days is a lot of the stars are in the NHL. The days of teams not using 18 and 19 year old players are gone. The really good ones aren't going to be available. So you need guys who are good - but not too good.

not sure where to put this but it gave me a laugh so I'll put it here

Apparantly 4 teams not in the tournament have a better chance to win the tournament than Denmark, and 6 teams not in the tournament are listed. Guess the oddsmakers are just trying to get some free money from stupid people betting on teams who can't win.

Virtanen really does lack IQ and is quite unimpressive (even more gross that's he's #6), but people need to quit acting like Marner isn't built like a 15 year old girl and will never get away with holding on to the puck that long in the big leagues. His shot is pathetic too, even for his frail frame.

Strome and Barzal though >>>>>

fyi, Strome was invisible for close to half the game against Denmark today. Only decided to start playing at the halfway point. Definitely did not play better than Marner or Barzal

Strome wasn't that good today actually, outside of his goal.

Marner will have success at the next level - it's called adapting.

The defense group as a whole kind of worries me. Sanheim had the strongest game of all of them but they're still pretty horrible at moving the puck effectively. The forwards are having to come way back to support the puck.

It'll work against weaker teams but I think it will be an Achilles heel against stronger competition.

Also I'm not getting the constant need to compare Virtanen and Marner. They're completely different players from different drafts and different league. The success one has doesn't merit or demerit the other at all.

Virtanen was a passenger today along with a number of others. Constantly ragging one prospect to laud another isn't a really effective strategy and just ends up in **** slinging. They're on the same team, we should be hoping all the players do well. It's a petty move. You can brag about your favourite prospect without mocking others.

and the cross ice between players tape to tape pass to Marner for the goal.

People still don't really understand Strome's non flashy game. And now playing 5 on 5 with two other players without a lot of flash and it is going to seem underwhelming.

I remembered, but that still does not justify him being invisible for half the game. Strome really did not do much except for that one nice goal and a few nice feeds on the PP, people are not crucifying him right now because he scored a nice goal. He capitalized on his few chances he had.

I understand his game fine - he's a great player. Best player against the U.S, which was arguably the far more important game.

That said, he didn't look great today (outside of a few plays) and his line did not produce very much.

I will say that I've been quite disappointed in Virtanen - just lacks puck skills.

Well its a good thing this tournament isn't being played with NHLers. :help:

But yeah, nobody that has a small frame can make it in the NHL, such a shame... You must at least be 6'0, 200lbs or else you have no future, why even bother drafting people under 6'0?

And look, an American from Arizona posting in the Canada roster thread just to berate the player that was drafted after there pick, I hope that makes you feel better about missing out on Eichel.

In all fairness Marner does need to put a bit of weight on. He's pretty light but also very young, he won't be playing at 170ish in the NHL. 5'11" is around league average for forwards but he is in the lower weight percentile for his height.

If he adds 10lbs he will have a much better chance of being durable. Not that I think he won't be anyhow but after RNH being derailed due to injury because he was so slight it's something to at least consider.

Yet still looked better than Marner. Just not as flashy, which is all that matters on HF.

Anyone also not that high on Chabot? I would kucb have Hickey run the PP than Chabot.

Not overwhelming as a PP guy but his puck movement and retrieval have been good from what I've seen (Missed parts of Denmark game).

I'm just hoping he opens it up and uses that skating to join the rush consistently.

Is this the thread where we come to bash other teams prospects?

It's getting old real fast.

Tearing down another teams prospect wont prop yours up.
