Didn't watch the game but from everything I've read Marner was horrible :help:

He was for most of the game. He was awful in both the 1st and 2nd periods, but he had a better 3rd with some pretty good shifts. Overall did not have a good game and needs to be better. He himself admitted that he didn't do very well in the 1st and 2nd period.

In comparison to some of the guys who hardly play and were brought for the 4th line, maybe he was fine, but the expectations are much higher for Marner, Strome, etc. He's expected to lead this team by playing at a high level, and he did the opposite today.

Of course they were, people on here don't like him. Bob had good things to say about him and Strome, though.

Here is McKenzie's post-game brief on Canada vs US:

http://www.tsn.ca/world-juniors/video/mckenzie-calls-canada-s-loss-death-by-1000-cuts~777058

His comments on players comes at about 2:15. He was effusive in praise about Strome's individual performance. He said that line itself (with Marner and Quennville) wasn't as good as expected 5v5. His only comment about Marner was how he thought he had "another gear" that we didn't see today.

Marner's first two periods were poor. He improved in the third, especially the second half of it. He wasn't as effective as he could be and hopefully will be. It was not a good game for him, overall.

Please do not dismiss people's remarks as disliking a player. You only make yourself look foolish.

McKeown is bad. Was horrible in the summer camp, was ok against the CIS, has been bad in Europe. He can't play on the PK and he shouldn't see significant time going forward. I'm not getting into any discussions about Sanheim other than to say that all of McKeown's minutes should go to him.

Just curious, what exactly was so bad about McKeown in today's game? I watch a lot of Kingston games, so I know what to expect from him. And while he wasn't necessarily good today, I didn't see anything out of him (in today's game -- I didn't watch the summer camp or CIS games) that would make someone think he's terrible.

Honestly curious, because I thought McKeown's game today could be described as "average" -- nothing good, but nothing blatantly bad. Yet, you saw something in his game that stood out as horrible.

:help:

I don't think it was a necessarily bad game for Canada, but of course should've been much better. But I liked our defense in the first two periods. So many blocked-shots, the Americans didn't have a chance to get the puck to the goaltender. Canada's PP was in trouble I think, even though they scored one there, but that 5 min PP should have ended with at least one goal for us.

No need to panic though. I am glad that Barzal got some ice time and scored a goal, and Dylan Strome was good. On the other hand, a change needs to be made, somewhere, you can tell that game was, offensively, extremely under our potential.

Kudos to Matthews, not a spectacular breath-taking game, but still 2 points and a game winner. The US looks dangerous as I predicted, now I hope Canada gets it together :) plenty of time to do it.

The team didn't play bad at all
USA played a decent game but nothing outstanding
Power play was terrible as it always is at the start
Where are we headed.
I would say we are going to meet the Russians in the quarters

Mainly getting hemmed in. Many of the Canadian defencemen were guilty of that, but I can at least recall positive plays that each of the other defencemen made at some point. I can't do that with McKeown.

This loss to the usa is the best thing to happen to this young team. Its the best loss that could happen to the coaching staff.

We will see if the coaching staff changes or tweaks what didnt work and now have 3 games to practice these changes

The usa did not look supperiour to canada

The way the americans were pumped up by tsn i thought they would domminate us, but i guess it all has to do with ratings on tsn

I wish we meet the americans again in semi. We should be prepared better

The line up I would like to see

Chartier-Point-Virtanen
Perlini-Strome-Marner
Beauvillier-Barzal-Gauthier
Crouse-Stephens-Konecny
Quenneville

Dont think we have the team this year ,last season,s was just so stacked.Maybe they come together, but i think the usa gets gold this year

The US had a few lucky bounces and then their goaltender carried them the rest of the way. If we play them again with Blackwood, I'm certain there's a different result.

I agree. I thought Canada generated far more scoring chances than the U.S. Team.

But I will repeat what I said earlier, this Gauthier will be star in the NHL. He could have had three goals in the game. His combination of size, skill and speed will make him a force when he 'matures'. I know the momentum is to select Matthews first overall. But if I'm drafting, I'm thinking long and hard about selecting this larger and faster version of Cam Neely. This kid is a player.

We didn't look as good as I thought we would. I think with Blackwood back we'll beat the US if we see them again. Stupid play by Debrincat. Thought the U.S looked way bigger than us as well.

I agree with most of this. Canad outplayed USA for the most part. Perlini was absolutely robbed, and the American goals involved two tips by Canadians, a fortuitous bounce off the boards (and slow reaction by McDonald) and a wrister from the point. It's pretty uncommon to see that many goals scored in such a manner. Outplaying the United States isn't really the goal though. I'm somewhat concerned that Lowry seemingly made no adjustments when Canada's issues early on were easy to spot.

Guessing from those practice lines that Chartier is the 13th forward once Gauthier returns. Better him than Beauvillier.

You'd consider Gauthier 1st overall? Wow he has impressed you but that's not going to happen.

Gauthier is great, I love him.

In saying that, I take Dubois ahead of him 10 times out of 10.

Gauthier reminds me of Nash, Dubois reminds me of Giroux.

(Not saying they are the same players, or project to be)

Mcdonald was very average but it's not really his fault they lost today.

I doubt the Blackwood would have made a difference

I agree ,the truth is the American goaltender played lights out.
They also capitalized on their scoring opportunities,we did not.

Nedelijkovic was that good.

I don't disagree: he won't go first overall. But that doesn't mean it's the right decision. What I like is the way Gauthier projects. I think with his size and speed, he will have an NHL career that will surpass most of the players that will be selected before him. This kid will be a star. Your team will be fortunate indeed if they 'reach' for Gauthier in the draft.

Iam still rooting for our guys dont get me wrong ,but this team just doesnt seem to have that wow factor .I could be wrong as its still early but iam just not feeling it

They may have the same size, but Gauthier is much faster than Nash. But if he turns out to be another Nash, why would anyone quibble in taking Gauthier in the top three? I can't comment on Dubois, having not seen him enough. But if you are correct in your assessment, his omission from Team Canada was a mistake.

Good analysis. Can't understand why Beauvillier is relagated to the 13th forward spot after been one of the best forward during camp. Quite surprising. Only 6 shifts in today's game. What does he see in Quenneville that I don't? Use Quenneville in the PK, for key faceoffs and for defensive mission. But to support Strome and Marner offensively, Beauvillier is a better option.

Not enough pucks for Strome and Marner, both players love to hold onto the puck. If you watch closely Quenneville is always 3rd man high on that line and I'm guessing he has no problem being first man back out of those three. It's intentional that's why he was placed there by the coach. We'll see how Stome and Marner do with a more offensively skilled player.
