Let's Go Hawks!
I think the team looks really good based on the camp roster. Don't know why some people are so fussed

Hockey Canada seems to think this, but is it really true? I don't know if they played together at the Hlinka tournament, but I saw them together in most of Ontario's games at the U17. They put up points, but I didn't find there was any noteworthy chemistry there. Just two players who happened to be a lot better than most of their opposition. I remember that Strome was incredibly confusing because he seemed to just float around and do nothing, and at the end of the night would have a goal and two assists.
Yes yes I've seen your posts and how desperate you seemingly are for just anybody to play for team Canada. It looks pathetic, like when USA desperately tries to get Canadian players to play for them (like Canada with Chychrun actually). Canada should be above that. Walman turned his back on his national team - Canada is the country that developed him as a hockey player. Most people understand things like having pride in your nation in in your own abilities. Walman doesn't, and he doesn't belong on team Canada given his idiotic decision. I'm surprised that there are Canadian hockey fans with so little respect for Canadian hockey.
ummmmm? Have u watched him, they are nothing alike outside of being wingers and good skaters. Ho-Sang is shifty and pass first, Ovechkin is powerful (shifty for his size) with the best shot in the league. Ho-Sang's game is much closer to Kane if your using playing style as comparables but Ho-Sang is nowhere near as talented.Ho-Sang is like a $hitty ovechkin. Which is pretty damn good.
no Meloche
no AUbe-Kudel
no Perron...
good stuff HC. Bring more WHL Garbage grinde.r..
****ing joke..
Unless my memory is completely failing me didn't they play together and perform very well at the summer camp? Yes, I know its not a true international event, but it typically gives some indication as to some combinations that the coaching staff are thinking through.
Strome is a pretty unique player; he certainly racks up the points. I saw Erie live last year and, aside from a goal he scored on a beautiful wrist shot to the top corner, he didn't stand out in any real way. He still ended up with 4 or 5 points though, in an 8-5 Erie win. Conversely McDavid stood out from the pack every shift he was on the ice.
Ridiculous.
Everything you said has nothing to do with his decision, it hurts to watch you try to push that BS on people. I think it's absurd that we wouldnt want someone who is putting in that kind of production in college.
aaaaand you're going to say he's a no good traitor with no respect for Canada, fun!!
Apparently Walman went to try out for the U.S team and the U.S olympic government said he didn't have enough paperwork to play for the Americans. "oh hey guys I went to try out for the American team but here I am now, yeah I don't think I want that guy on my team.
According to Bobby Mac, Marner will be playing wing.
I agree with your Walman points. I thought most would share your opinion but it seems not. It's one thing for a player like Chychurn to feel Canadian because he feels like a Canadian, plays in Canada, father is Canadian, played in Canada in midget and has spent summers here I have heard but for someone like Walman to go from playing for Canada at the U19s to the Americans at the Summer camp and again applying for them then he's back with Canada. It's just disrespectful, I don't care how young he is we don't need someone who doesn't feel a privilege to be Canadian. But think about the players, if I'm someone on the WJC team for Canada, I would feel sick to have this guy on my team. He doesn't want to be Canadian. They played together in the summer, and Marner looked pretty good while Strome didn't impress. Hockey Canada seems to think that they work well together, but I don't see it at this point. They didn't look great together in the camp, they didn't play minor hockey together. They played in the U17 together and put up a lot of points, but I don't think it had anything to do with chemistry.
As far as how Strome plays, I'm fine with it. This isn't figure skating, so I'm glad to have Strome's tangible results. It's just mystifying. If he seems to float around and do nothing for Canada but gets results, then I will be happy.
Well cupcake it's pretty sad that my words regarding Walman hurt you so. I don't care what his production is - I want Canadian players who are loyal to team Canada. Walman is not, and thus his production is irrelevant. I would much rather lose with Canadian players who want to represent Canada than win with a Canadian who wants to represent USA. It's desperate and pathetic to chase after a player who turned down his own country to try and play for another.
Walman is nothing more than a mercenary at this point. I like to think that the players who wear the Canadian jersey actually want to play for Canada more than they do the opposition. When Walman plays USA, we literally know that he actually wants to play for the other team. How anyone could possibly support picking a player like that is beyond me.
Yeah the US olympic government is pretty powerful.
It may not even be that Walman wants to play for the US more than he did for Canada, this is his potentially only shot to represent someone at any level internationally, if he doesn't develop. Wouldn't you want to give it a shot at the place you have the best chance to make it if you're a dual eligible player who isn't a lock? His play this season is much better than last, if this is last year and he decides to play for Canada people likely say he made a mistake because he'd never make it.
At the time, he tried playing for the country that gave him his best chance. If he's dual eligible, I would think it's safe to assume he has some familiarity with the US? If you're a kid with options and you aren't a lock for one country, you definitely consider it. Until you have the option, it's hard to hate on the kid.. If I'm in his shoes, I know that I'd be going where my opportunity was the best.
I'd like to see Crouse play with Strome and Marner on the top line. It makes sense on paper
Crouse can pick up the defensive slack so to speak? That was my thinking anyways. If I'm allowed to use comparisons it would be like the current Landeskog-MacKinnon-Duchene line. Mack and Duchene are allowed to cheat a bit because Landeskog is there to do the heavy lifting defensively.
Strome and Marner are good in their own end to be fair, I was thinking Crouse would make that top line very hard to play against, and they could even be used to protect leads down the stretch of the game. I like Crouse's game in the offensive end a bit more than MDC's to be fair, I think he's more than capable enough to hang with Marner and Strome offensively (albeit doing a bulk of the "dirty" work)
For the record I wasn't saying anything about Strome or Marner's defensive games. I just think knowing they have someone like Crouse to count on doing the heavy lifting defensively they can feel more free to play their game which only means good thing for Canada. Good call on "hard to play against" part. Crouse definitely adds a dimension to that line. Having a wrecking ball as a puck retriever is always nice to have![]()
It'd first be USA Hockey, not U.S. Olympic Government, second the paperwork you speak of is clearance by the IIHF, which is pretty important to USA Hockey if they don't want to forfeit every game he plays in.Apparently Walman went to try out for the U.S team and the U.S olympic government said he didn't have enough paperwork to play for the Americans. "oh hey guys I went to try out for the American team but here I am now, yeah I don't think I want that guy on my team.
