Ref was horrible, but for both sides. Deserved win.
To call it a deserved win is laughable. You scored on a 4on3 powerplay that shouldn't have been a powerplay. And it's not like the call was arguable, it was just made up (just like the one before it).

Yes, that was awful.
Doesn't change the fact that the win was well deserved. 45 - 25 shots for the Swiss too.

This tournament is held more often in Europe than in NA. They (and by they I mean Canada) care more about the U-20 WJC than the U-18 WJC.

That's not necessarily true, but given the way the CHL is structured, regular season/playoffs, there just isn't a spot in the calendar for it in Canada. and that's too bad, because it could be that sort of junior tournament in real junior rinks (5-8 thousand seat venues) that the U20 was before TSN transformed it into the money grab it is. All Hockey Canada has to do is end the season by the end of March and have all players freed up and ready to play. Canadian hockey fans would show up for that as well. But Canada hosting another junior tournament on a more regular basis???? something tells me that wouldn't go over too well by many who post in this forum.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm anything but a Latvia fan, but the ref work in that game was pretty shoddy. It pretty much caused the 45-25 shot differential. The reality is though that at all levels, Latvia is going to get more penalties called on them because they play a really compact and physical game. I'm interested to see who loses in the relegation round between Latvia and likely Germany and gets relegated to Division 1A.

What the **** is wrong with our hockey.

Its still on the level, as it was in last 10 years. Dont expect something special from U18 team.
U 20 could sometimes surprise you and senior team more often. But in U18 we are on the level of Germany, Latvia ...

This is some of the worst refereeing I've seen. A Swiss player loses his stick, he goes on to take away the stick of a Latvian player, and the Latvian player gets sent off for 'interference'.

In this situation the refs were making the correct call. After a check both players lost their stick. But unfortunately the Latvian player picked up the wrong stick. Accordingly the Swiss player did not try to take away the stick of a Latvian player, he tried to get back his own stick! Hard to see for the refs, but in the end interference against the Latvian player was the correct call...

I'd say they're a bit better than Germany or Latvia. Those are elevator teams, never staying up in the top division for long. Slovakia has had that one bad year when they were relegated in the U18s, but they got back up right away. Look at this year as well, Germany and Latvia will most likely play each other in the relegation matches, while Slovakia might finish as high as 3rd in the group. Latvia failed to win a single match and Germany will most likely too (unless a miracle vs. the US happens today).

So to sum up, even at this level, Slovakia is better than Latvia or Germany.

I do realize that, I was just absolutely shocked by the amount of our shots against Germany in the first period. That´s just unbelievable.

Holy **** Nättinen/Saarijärvi/Laine/Tammela can really move the puck on the PP.

Saarela scored on 6vs5 1-0.

How on earth Saarela doesn't get a credit for an assist for springing that 2 on 1 rush?

I'm impressed by our boys so far, their really dictating the pace of the game right now. Not too impressed by Canada though, even though it's not their best team they should look better with that roster. One period though, I'm sure Can will improve.
