Jokerit probably thinking they had it in the bag, already thinking Davos was dead. Result: two Swiss teams in the semi finals. :handclap:

I love the Spengler Cup. I look forward to it every year, but this moron Kouleas on TSN is actually ruining it for me. Everything out of his mouth is an NHL reference.

Hey moron, you're not announcing an NHL game, try to focus here.

I really hope this is his last year. Romaniuk wasn't great, but he was 80 billion times better than this idiot.

Jokerit probably thought OMG whe have to continue the tournament :D we outta here...

Maybe Jokerit just aren't as good as their opponents? Aren't the Swiss clubs bolstered by a few guys from other teams?

Davos seems to do well most years...The KHL reps NOT so much...

I liked Romanuk more, but I don't get the hate for talking about the NHL. It's the easiest way to relate the players to most fans, as the casual fan has almost no ability to compare SHL to SML to KHL, etc. Guys who played in the NHL can be compared that way.

Exactly. And it also makes a casual fan feel like they're still watching a pretty high level of hockey and keep them from changing the channel.

The NHL references are more than fine.

KHL teams really dont give a flying **** about the tourney. If Jokerit played like it was KHL play-offs no team would stand a chance.
I remmember even when Rīga played in Spengler cup our guys basically took it like a holiday and still ripped Kloten(?) Flyers 7-0 or whatever.

Yes of course they could play better, but so could some of the other teams to some extend.
But honestly, its a ****** attitude to go there ond don't give a ***** about how you play. Thats why people love team Canada so much, they'll always play to win. And no matter how much they're behind, they never give up. And that being said, I usually root for the KHL teams...

I mean look at how NHL teams play their exhibition games in Europe, just because Anaheim Ducks lost to ZSC or whomever, you wouldnt therefore make a conclusion that NLA is better than NHL.
Its all about risk vs reward - for KHL teams theres no real reward while the risk of someone injuring themselves is huge, which come back and bite them in the ass come play off time.

tbf, that risk applies to every team not called Canada.

But the tourney really isn't something you should take too seriously.

Also, the Lions beat the Hawks, who went on to win the cup that year. But that's still not saying much, the Victoria Cup was more of an exhibition game than a true cup final.

It's funny to observe the behaviour of different teams' fans when it comes to this tourney. Of course every team thinks it's nice to win. And the fans would love their team to win this easily. But as soon as the fans notice that it's gonna need an effort from their team to win, they want their team to lose and go home quickly. This behaviour can be observed with pretty much every team not named Davos. First I thougt it's only a reaction of Swiss fans, but reading this forum confirms that also KHL fans think exactly the same.

And Davos and Lugano are two of the better NLA teams. Davos has maybe the best coach outside the NHL and Lugano has a roster that could easily compete in a KHL season. That's one expensive roster by European standards.

No team gives full effort in this tournament because there is nothing to win besides the prestige of winning the oldest club tournament in the world. It's a nice entertainment over the holidays and Davos makes millions with it. That's all there is. No one claimed different.

Hoping for Lugano to win this.

The same goes for every team there. You don't think that all other teams take this tournament seriously, do you?

Coverage this year was not my favourite. I thought the same of Kouleas, and that stupid theme song is somehow still around... hahaha

Also, what's with the 6amEST, 12 local final game start?!?!
I know its NYE, but even if they do a 2-3 local time game start...

NHL teams , in preseason form, still won the vast majority of their games against Euro squads...

Man, that start time is crazy! Why do they need it to start noon local? None of the main games are that early.

I got the benefit of being on the East Coast though, so it won't be on in the middle of the night. I might get up to watch.

thing is though this is nothing new. Anyone who follows this tournament should know that the final is always at 6 am. I work overnights and don't get off until 7 am so I'm going to miss most of the game, I may be able to catch the 3rd period. Either way it'll be a nice kick start to a great day/night for everyone, between the WJR's and any games in the afternoon/evening and whatever plans people have.

He hasn't really won anything during the last decade, and his only championship was almost twenty years ago with an incredibly stacked roster in the Finnish league. He's overrated and out of touch with modern hockey.

Sotshi bronze pretty much qualifies as a win with that team. He is a better tournament coach than a league coach tho.
