Yep, all those 5th-7th rounders we'll get in return for our depth players and marginal contracts sure will be the turning point in our franchise's history.

I have more issue with what players we could trade that arent young for 5th-7th round pick. I love the idea of drafting more players no matter how unlikely they are to make the nhl. Not sure how it works with how long you keep unsigned player rights though. If they take up contract spots i'd rather waste the spots on KHL players who might be coming over and that might deserve an NHL spot.

Gryba, Neil and Condra(if we dont intend of resigning)for 5ths i have no problem with

dont see teams wanting greening, michalek, smith or phillips though

maybe explore what you could get for legwand but i honestly think he might be harder to replace then people think.

some posters are acting like the player we draft this year will come in a hold down the LD spot that we need to fill or the center position

more then likely it will take 3-5 years for that guy to actually make an impact unless its mcdavid or eichel

I think we have enough picks of course more is better but we gain very little from trading a depth defender like Gryba for a 5th unless we really have no space. Better off packaging better assets for better players to make space

We don't even have enough space for our current prospect we barely fit pageau in and we have peumple and prince coming through

The ahl depth is very bad and we dont have a ton of players preforming in juniors. If we can refill the coffers on ok prospects i'd be happy.. I think Strome and Hanifin can maybe the jump soon. Might even push for roster spots next year on the teams that draft them.

Consider this... Schneider, Wideman, D.Grant, A.Grant, Mullen, Camper, Dizzy thompson ect ect, Basically look up anyone 24 and older are all done or basically done as NHL prospects. Do we want the AHL filled with prospects or career ahlers?

This guy.

I was pumping his tires, before the World Juniors.

He has the it factor. It's hard to explain, but watching him play, you just can tell his game is going to translate better into the NHL.

Bingo, he's gonna be a star. There is a reason every scout loves him. His production is only being discussed on HF not in board rooms.

So Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman are depth players? Is Brendan Gallagher a marginal or depth player?

Fine, I will revise my statement:

"Yep, all those 5th-7th rounders we'll get in return for our depth players and marginal contracts sure will have a 3% chance of being the turning point in our franchise's history".

When you win $50 on a $1 lottery ticket, you don't then go out and buy 50 more tickets.

Could easily live with that, but what did we give to get Johansen. Some combination of Gryba, Borowiecki, Phillips, Condra, Greening, Legwand, Michalek, Neil & Smith won't get that done - I'd give them all if it would! Cost our 1st I guess, but that would be a temptation for sure.

I agree with Hoffman and Ryan on the 1st line and also that none of our current stock of centres can fill the No1 role at this point. Might switch over Lazar and Zibanejad, but that's just a thought; either way works.

Would keep Borowiecki around somewhere if he was not in you package

Nothing. Because that's really not the point of the conversation. Just check previous posts if you want to understand

So I'm willing to bet the Sens draft a goalie this year, haven't really had a good look at who's out there, I've watched Mackenzie Blackwood in Barrie a few times but not really enough to judge.

Ottawa also tends to draft a local guy each year, not many to pick from this year but like what I've seen from Senyshyn and Mercier in SSM, could be worth later round picks.

Finally, the Top Prospects game is this Thursday on Sportsnet if anyone is interested.

I don't think Mercier is going to get drafted. Senyshyn is going to be a very good player and I would love to draft him if we get a late 2nd round pick or early 3rd.

Its hard to say, because of SSM depth on D he doesn't get a lot of playing time, but the bit I've seen of him he seems like a stable stay at home defender, has good size, can skate etc I'd take a chance on him with a 7th for sure.

I wouldn't mind drafting any of the Ottawa 67's top draft eligible players this year. Konecny with a higher pick and Salituro and Addison as later picks obviously.

Who here has actually watched Crouse play outside of the WJC?

I've seen him play live twice. Liked him a lot. Very smooth for a big man, and did display some nice hands receiving the puck and handling it. Nice shot. Scored in both games I saw. Basically, as advertised.

On the down side, I don't think I saw him make a pass outside of drops and chips on the cycle (which he played well). He clearly will need a playmaker to generate space and chances for him, although he could easily make the NHL at 20 years of age in the bottom 6. He was very physical, but not really an intimidating guy (not a mean SOB). But overall, has limited offensive skill outside of scoring (which is arguably the most important thing). But it's tough to put a winger with an elite center who is a bit of a black hole to pass to. He either shoots or dumps it in. Could improve, but will clearly be a complimentary player in a top 6, if he ends up a scorer.

I have no problem with the Sens taking him between 8-15 or so. Safe pick. Could end up as a 20-25 goal winger in a top 6 la Rene Bourque (perhaps more consistent physically). Could also end up as a just a really good third liner. But he'll be a 10 year pro, that's for sure. I don't see a huge difference between he and Nick Paul, actually, although Crouse is a bit ahead of Paul at the same age (although Paul is the more dominant offensive player right now).

I'd prefer guys like Marner or Strome I we have a top 8 pick.

I completely agree, I remember he was a huge part of the 67's AAA Telus Cup run a few years ago. I would take a chance on him too but I just don't think he's going to get drafted. He would be a guy I would invite to rookie camp and maybe draft him as a 19-year old.

The sens have had a ton of players move up or bypass the ahl cowen zibby Lazar ceci Hoffman pageau stone is a crazy amount of talent

The guy we draft won't hit the ahl for another couple of years anyways. The sens have just had a ton of graduates but that should slow down with young guys taking up a lot of nhl spots

I agree but we should always be looking for depth. I'm talking about in the future and im not talking about 2nd or 1st round picks. I dont want the AHL roster being filled out by a large amount of players who are probably done as NHL prospects. As far as the prospect pool goes right now i see quite a few player i dont think will be good in the ahl or are even worthy of being ahl players.

My argument i believe was it doesnt hurt to try to grab late round picks because we need as many players possible competing for AHL spots.

The senators young talent pool is deep but imo their young players outside the NHL pool is shallow.
