I'd be down with that although I'd sooner address our defense right now.

Strong draft year for forwards to select a defenceman with the 16th, unless Werenski falls. That's why I would like to trade up to also acquire Crouse.

You can gamble on defence in the 2nd round. There will be defenceman that dropped obviously.

Brandon Carlo may go late in the first actually. That size and skating is intriguing for many GM's.

McKenzie has eight dmen lined up before Roy including Carlo. You gotta trust someone! Two of them will likely be available to us between the 16th and early second. If we pick the right two hello good defense!

Pick forwards in the first round
Defenseman in the 2nd round
Power Forwards in the 3rd round
then mix in some goalies in the rest of the rounds.

my very simple draft strategy.. amazing how well it would work looking back in drafts haha

What do people think about drafting Kolesar with Montreal's 2nd round pick?

We're stacked up front, let's take hanifin with the first.

I know that you are probably trying to be cute with this post. That said

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Pouliot-McDavid-Yakupov
Slepyshev/Yakimov-Lander-Draisaitl

Tell me where all of this space is coming from for a guy like Merkley? Even if we deal Yak or Leon we could go with a cheaper forward for our 3rd line. We need defense and goaltending in a big way and unless you are drafting a top 9 forward with size and grit or an elite skill set like McDavid or Eichel right now we'd be far better off trading the pick for actual NHL players to support what we already have on the team and on the way. I'd much sooner find a defenseman to help Nurse and Klefbom develop than to think about a guy like Merkley 3-5 years down the road. Newsflash this isn't the only draft where we can add depth to our prospect ranks, this draft is a draft where we should sacrifice some of the future for the present and near future.

Should I watch Nbc or Sportsnet coverage? I heard Bob and Pierre are gonna be on Nbc, if so it's no competition.

I heard you will only be able to view bob if you live in the states. So like the rest of us you will likely have to watch the same CLOWNS as the rest of us

I'm going to strangle myself if Cox is the insider guy at the draft

I miss Tsn so much. Their graphics, their reporters, their everything :pout:

I think he projects to be a much better player than any of Slepyshev, Yakimov, or Lander. He could also replace Draisaitl, Yakupov, or Eberle at some point to save money or fill a role if someone's play dips. Could also just trade him for top dollar to fill spots, it'd be nice to have a surplus of something valuable so that every time the Oilers made a trade it didn't open up another hole.

These are all fine notions but I'd sooner address the defense now. When you are a winning team you attract FA's so that would be nice for a change. Outside of drafting McDavid there is nothing more important than solidifying our defense and goaltending right now.

So the plan is:
1. Address it at the draft
2. Wait a few years
3. Win?

What if the scouts think there isn't a great RHD available at 16? If they LHD will have to beat out Nurse and Klefbom, or else have to settle for a lesser role or play out of position.

The Oilers prospect pool needs help all over and I'm sure we've all seen enough evidence to support drafting the best player available. I hope the best player available at #16 is a defenseman, but if not I'd take a forward.

This. BB's projected top 9 in 2018 is wildly optimistic, but even if it all pans out (and it won't), an added scoring forward on his ELC isn't exactly a bad problem to have. Who knows what the team will look like in the 2-3 years a forward prospect will take to mature or even the 3-6 years it'll take for a defense prospect to mature?

BPA, whoever that is.

I am leaning towards Evgeni Svechnikov. His size and skill is something the Oilers could use. I know we need D-Men but if they don't trade the 16 pick then I think Evgeni Svechnikov would be the best fit for us with who will be left in the draft. With a deep draft and many picks it'll be interesting to see what happens with the Oilers after they take McDavid,
