Steve Ott type - minus the occasional glove dropping?

I previously called him a Erik Karlsson at forward which says nothing lol, hard to put a finger on it, but he is cocky and confident with the puck and has the ability to make top notch plays at the right time.

Kovac is being compared to Hagelin, but they differ a lot. Kovac has more potential, not super talented in any area and he is pretty small. But while Hags was solid but too weak on the puck in the NHL, and never really pulled a trick out of a sleeve up in the Pros, Kovac at the same age as Hagelin is stronger on the puck and he is much harder to contain with it. Good nose for the net etc and often breaks he pattern and manage to open things up. Kovac is also a lot more feisty than Hagelin.

Ok I got it, think Swedish Brad Marchand. You won't get a better comparision than that lol. If Fast was a Swedish Ryan Callahan, Robin Kovac has potential to become a Swedish Brad Marchand in the NHL. Very roughly of course. Wouldn't rule out a little bit better if he absolutely peaks his potential. No need to get into odds of making it or busting while he is this young and raw, we can get back to that in 8 months or whatever after the WJCs.

I love this front office. They trade Hagelin because of the cap, get a potential homerun replacement in Etem, and draft another potential Hagelin (homegrown and all) in a couple years. Good long play by Sather, Gorton, and co.

I like the pick.

Anyone know his status for next season? I assume he is playing in the SEL?

He played in the Swedish second division last year and is a free agent right now. Rumours saying he's going to play in the SHL with Frölunda where Joel Lundqvist is captain.

He helped his previous team to get promoted to the SEL so even he goes back to them he will be playing in the main league.

It's not as rare as you make out to be. I bet it's a bit more often for us than other teams. Your post made it sound like it's once every 10 year occurrence.

Rounds 3-7 results in the last 20 years. Players with more than 100 NHL games are considered success, agreed?

1995: Marc Savard, Dale Purinton
1997: Mike York, Mike Mottau (Johan Holmqvist has 99 games)
1998: Jason LaBarbera, Tomas Kloucek
2000: Dominic Moore, Henrik Lundqvist
2001: Garth Murray, Marek Zidlicky, Ryan Hollweg
2002: Petr Prucha
2003: Nigel Dawes
2004: Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan
2005: Tom Pyatt
2007: Carl Hagelin

It's not that uncommon to find NHL players in the later rounds.

And that doesn't even count a guy like Fast or Duclair, Buchnevich, all who will very possibly play 100 games too.

Out of all the picks today I like this one the most.

We rock at picking in the 3rd round! :yo:

Ha, came to post that based on the read I pictured Avery (low) to Marchand (high) range.

Which means almost nothing.

Actually no.

The Rangers have a solid track record there that is positive.

In any case somehow they have managed to win pretty consistently and go pretty deep the last few years.

.....that does not come from almost nothing.
