Skilled forwards are great. But this is hopefully the highest pick we get for the next few years. If werenski, provorov, or Hannifin slip to us, I'd hope we jump all over it. Just think d-men are the most important players on the team and if u get a chance to nab a high end one ud be foolish to not select him.

If none of those guys are there and they don't feel strong about another d-man then I'm fine with a skilled forward. More fun to watch, not nearly as valuable to winning though.

Of course. That's my point, though. Any of those guys slipping past the teams in front of us would be nothing short of a miracle given they all need D in the worst way. Provorov or Hanifin dropping would be lol, though I could see it happening a lil with Werenski and I'd begrudgingly take him over the others. The high-skill forwards I think will be available around us, the only one I can reliably see around us (and the one I see repeatedly available in mocks and otherwise) is Konecny. Anything else is a weird, lucky faller like Rantanen.

Definitely will make it exciting. I am fully expecting someone to slip to us at 13 that was projected to go top 7 or so. I'm just hoping the player that slips is a d man

I can't see it.

My top 12 in order of picks

McDavid
Eichel
Strome
Marner
Hanifin
Zacha
Provorov
Werenski
Barzal
Crouse
Rantanen
Connor
LA=???

Forwards
Meier/Svechnikov/Konecny/Merkley

Off the board=Boeser

Defence
Roy/Zboril/Chabot

The only guy I think could drop is Crouse and he isn't exciting at all.

I think out of that group, Svechnikov/Meier (and of course, Rantanen/Crouse) are more 'typical Kings' picks of the past, but this year in particular, I feel like if they really like Konecny's skill over the others, size be damned, he's our guy.

Edit: that being said, if Rantanen (squeeeee!) or Crouse were available at 13, they're ours and I'd probably be okay with it. Great value picks and they play Kings style hockey already (just younger, fresher). But I'm infatuated with Konecny, so ehhhh.

Filip Ahl

I have a guest commentator working on the Merkley video I put together, then I am going to take a small break (prob just a week or so). New school term and just starting to feel a bit of the burnout, lol

The more I read the more I want us to take Denis Gurianov. Some people have him top 10, lots don't have him in the 1st. But he's big, strong, fast, defensive minded, and has the best shot in the draft supposedly. Teams are afraid of the Russian fa tor, but I think that's overrated. If he's a legit top 5-10 forward prospect, like some are saying, his skill set sounds perfect for us. We can gamble on the Russian factor.

The last two impact russian players we have drafted that have given us trouble are Proks and Kitsyn. Time in Russia derailed two very good prospects development, one enough to where he may never see the NHL as a result and the other, a once very promising kid now has a few huge question marks to deal with when it comes to his future in hockey. I would draft bpa including a russian if that were my best option but in a draft like this one I have to believe that there are equally solid options from everywhere else too. I would need some sort of certainty that there weren't any outstanding contracts etc in russia before I would draft a kid from there all things considered.

I see Ahl's name mentioned a bit and I agree, that kid has solid skills and would be a good add to any team, I like him allot.

I wouldn't trade the number one pick this year for Sidney Crosby.

I think McDavid v Crosby is an interesting discussion. But yeah I take Crosby everyday of the week. Right now we know Crosby is the best player in the world and will be for another 4-5 years minimum. You always take Crosby right now, always.

Cost effective.

McDavid is cost controlled for your rebuilding team, the next Five-Seven years at least. Crosby is already on the downside of his prime production years, and he will only get more expensive from here on out (contract ends at 31/32 years of age).

McDavid gives your rebuilding team tons of options Cap wise. Especially if he reaches his potential. Cap space right now, and at least for the next two years, is a premium.

If McDavid is as good as claimed he is cost controlled for 3 years. After that he becomes the best player in the game (or tied with Crosby) and any team won't blink an eye giving up 4 firsts for him at any price. So you are paying UFA money for him. For those 3 years let's not forget that he is not going to be close to the complete all around player on and off the ice that a prime Crosby is going to be. If your a young team that is trying to take the next step Crosby gives you the immediate advantage to take that next step with no downside like McDavid may have (it's not like Crosby is old). If your a contending team Crosby is the best player in the world who give you the instant cup threat.

If McDavid doesn't live up to billing than he is worth nowhere near Crosby since Crosby is the most elite talent in the world.

Only reason you'd accept McDavid for Crosby return if you have Crosby is if your in an immediate cap situation.

If McDavid turns into the best player in world, you wouldn't have a problem paying him MAX money/Term for all of his PRIME production years age 20-28.

Prime production years that Crosby is already exiting.

Again, cost effective.

I've taken a liking to Svechnikov's character. Even if the Kings don't select him, I hope he succeeds in the pros. Exciting player and one who is humble and willing to pay his dues in order to etch a career in the NHL.

“First of all, I just wanted to make my dream of playing in the NHL (come true),” said Svechnikov. “I think I’ve already played in Cape Breton one season and it’s my first step. I just want to keep going and just worry about what is in front of me. I just want to make my dream, that’s all I want here. That’s why I wanted to come here.”

Svechnikov knows what it takes to get where he wants to be.

"I want to make an NHL team and if I have to play more in the Canadian Hockey League or the American Hockey League, it doesn't matter," he told NHL.com. "I was able to bring a few things I learned in Russia to the North American game but it's a different game here. The simple things worked here but not everything."

He’s considered a power forward that can beat you physically, but has enough skill and creativity offensively to beat defenders 1-on-1. The winger has the size, strength and skill to compete against a variety of opponents.

Go to the mock draft page and at the top it has their 2 round mock draft.

That is the moderator draft, which Holden did.
There is a separate writer draft, which Jason is referring to.
There is also a separate draft for the gigolo of each team board. I will be making that selection

I still like Konecny a ton. I just don't know if the organization will support the smaller players. Weal has had to prove himself to Lombardi based on some of the things he has said in interviews. Lombardi also said it's unlikely to have ONiell and Weal on the big club together. That gives me pause about my hopes for TK.
