I've watched him play plenty, so I call ********.

The guy is going to be a NHLer, and yes, likely he goes top 6-8. But IMO when we look back on this draft 10 years from now he will be the Taylor Pyatt, a good worker, big body, but the offense just won't be there. I don't see the offense now, and I don't see it translating in the NHL. Maybe I'm wrong, and I'd be glad to be wrong if we get him, but I do not see him being an impact NHLer.

Sounds like Dustin Brown

For those curious, here's a Mock Draft from USA Today written by Kyle Woodlief.

While I don't like Woodlief, I do like the idea of us getting Barzal. He has a very good skill level and I haven't heard of any character issues.

A month ago I was hoping Zach W would be available for the kings. Looks very doubtful now. If button is right Hanifin would be a great consolation prize.

I agree on 6-8. Lots of teams NEED a big body guy like that, and we don't necessarily, but he could fall anywhere on the spectrum from a Doan type to a Pyatt/Chipchura type. I think he'll be an NHLer for a long time on those raw tools alone, so a team needing a 'safer' pick and a big body could do it like the teams immediately ahead of us that already have high end talent (colorado, florida, dallas). He's more of a compliment to high end talent than simply high end talent on his own, even guys like Doan and Landeskog fill that role so don't take it as an insult. Guys like Barzal and the other forwards around there are the high end skill and more likely to boom or bust to a higher ceiling or lower floor.

Doubt he's still there but if he is, we're all over it.

I like Larsson and would be ok if the kings traded down and still got him

I was hoping Juulsen would continue being a secret and we could grab him in the 2nd but looks like a major riser.

Interesting things from Lombardi lately in all the interviews/conference calls.

Three biggest things I took.

Weal will be in LA next year.

LA will NOT put ONeill and Weal in the same NHL line up. Makes me think Konecny is not the guy.

Lot of calls about movement at the draft. Should be interesting.

I think ONeill is actually the guy teams are calling about, he doesn't seem to have a future with LA, and he is 26/27 already.

Lombardi mentioned teams calling him saying "If your not going to put him your lineup, Let us put him in ours".

Every team in the league right now is looking for the next Johnny Hockey/Tyler Johnson, a low cost, high skill winger with speed.

They also don't care what size he is. The Cap is changing teams.

Teams aren't likely to be calling about 27 year old smurf in the minors. He's a toss in piece in a larger deal or maybe someone you give up a 5th for, nothing more.

He's also the AHL MVP so someone may take a flyer on him. Hell, guys like Locke, Giroux, et. al. got a cup of coffee. But you're right, probably not a significant asset.

Every time I see a ranking or some hype, I get upset that some awesome players are going before us, then realize we're ending up with the 'leftovers' of some awesome players ourselves due to trickle down

I DO wonder, though, if DL has a drop-down plan in place if a guy they really like isn't available, because I'm sure they found a guy late in the 1st they like assuming we wouldn't be out of the playoffs.

It's interesting that they have Connor listed as a winger. Most had him down as a center, but I was curious if he'll end up on the wing eventually. Youngstown had him at wing when I saw them in September.

The clips I've watched of him had him lined up at LW.

The Kings depth chart with young LWs as of today is looking pretty solid though with Pearson, Kempe, Zykov, Mersch.

Based on the Kings' draft and build philosophy, I tried to come up with a formula that would predict the Kings draft list, not including McDavid, Eichel, and goalies. An interesting one out of the typical order would be Roy, so if they traded down a few, that might be who they'd grab.

Here are the results:

Name Value

Strome 16.5
Provorov 16
Marner 15
Roy 15

Werenski 14
Crouse 14
Larsson 14
Merkley 14

Rantanen 13.5
White 13.5
Chabot 13.5

Hanifin 13
Zacha 13
Meier 13
Connor 13
Barzal 13
Juulsen 13
Boeser 13
Meloche 13

Zboril 12.5
Svechnikov 12.5
Eriksson Ek 12.5

Carlo 12
Carlsson 12
Harkins 12
Dermott 12

Debrusk 11.5
Konecny 11
Kylington 11
Siegenthaler 11
Dunn 11
Chlapik 11
Roslovic 11
Beauvillier 10.5
Fischer 10.5
Bittner 10
Gurianov 10
Sprong 10
Cernak 10
Senyshyn 10
Yan 9
