Thanks! I've been around for awhile, just never bothered posting.

Since McKenzie said players up to 45 on his list had scouts rank the player in the top 30, I extended my Kings' value projection a little.

He said each of the top 45 had at least one vote, some below that had a vote as well.

The clips I've watched of him had him lined up at LW.

The Kings depth chart with young LWs as of today is looking pretty solid though with Pearson, Kempe, Zykov, Mersch.

It sure is solid. But stuff happens quickly (aka injuries, regression), so the Kings really do have to take the BPA, even if he is a LW.

when we had the number four pick and ended up with hickey, it was said to be a three deep draft (remember the hawks won the lottery and got kane from the four spot) , now it is said to be a 11/12 deep draft and we have 13 lol , luckily we know someone will drop out 10 normally, but isn't it our luck we are always just a little outside the box, lets just hope DL/FUTA doesn't go for the 32th rated player without trading back

Yanetti talked to The Mayor about the antiquated dinosaur thinking against drafting smaller players.

Also talked about how the staff thinks about development process/plan way before a player is even picked.

Absolutely hate this attitude. So what happens if that player is then selected at 13/14 and goes on to be the best player in the draft? Will that extra late 2nd that has like a 20% chance of being an NHL of any sort really a good consolation? Just so some fan feels like you got "value".

No. You scout and rank the guys according to your board. If you feel the player you like is the best one and you want him you take him. If you got a couple of names in the same area and don't mind, sure trade back. But if he's your guy you take him. Screw consensus lists they are useless, they never have the full story anyways.

Holden got us Svechnikov and Tomek in the 2nd. Good job, Holden!

I really think Tomek is the best goalie in the draft. He is heading to UND which is good since his game is really rough, but he has the size, instincts and athleticism to be a star netminder. Just needs to work on his technique, which can be taught.

I like Svechnikov alot. He can really take over games. Great skill level and has shown plenty of adaptability after moving to center halfway through the year. His compete level isn't as high as it should be sometimes, but I think an organization as well run as the Kings can iron stuff like that out with young kids.

I still know very little about Svechnikov other than what's been posted here, but Tomek is intriguing because with all that rawness, he's a bit of a project, which is perfect for an organization who has their goalie set for a while. And he's going to a great place, one our org has connections to. I hadn't thought of that prior to your mock but when I read up on him and where he's coming from and going, it just looks right!

Completely agree. I don't fault DL and Co. for going for Hickey. They swung big and while they didn't get a homerun they at least tried and they did get something out of it as Hickey is a decent player. Losing him to waivers was a management decision, not indicative of the scouting staff.

And as we seen, you can swing and miss on a top 4 pick and still win the cup.

You want a scouting department that isn't conventional. You don't win a cup playing safe, you have to go off the board at times.

Where do you have Samsonov?

Where do you have Samsonov?

I didn't have time this year to do as much scouting as year's past (which is why I won't be putting together my annual list this year like the last 3). So I had very limited viewings of Samsonov and I'll admit goaltending was already my weakest area since I was never a goalie myself. What little I did see and what I've heard about him he sounds good, but I really like Tomek so I would still rate Tomek higher. Now I didn't see that much from Samsonov so I could be wrong. I would have both as high 2nd round grades.

Fair.

I didn't see as much of Samsonov as I would have liked but what I did see he seems very technically sound and quick, not so much quick with his reflexes but quick to move up and down and laterally. He looks like a more controlled version of Rask.

I'd love to see one of those top 3 dmen slip to us.

I see a lot of mocks having us take a dman and I just don't see it. It's often Zboril. Unless it's miraculously Provorov or Hanifin, meh. I can't imagine the teams ahead of us would let one of those guys slide either as most of them have a drastic need for dmen (sharks, colorado).

We need high-end offensive talent and that's been tougher to do with our few 1st round picks and low 1sts when we have em.

Barring as you said the miracle of Provorov or Hanifin, if we do get a D-man I hope it's Chabot. I really hope it's a skilled forward though.

I could see the Kings trading up into the low first-high second as there's still a lot of very, very nice forwards AND d-men there, but yeah, I'm hoping for a skilled forward, and from all the comments we've read from DL/Futa and team this offseason, I'm inclined to believe that's where we are headed!

#13's not a bad place to be. Timo Meier or Kyle Connor would be nice "consolation" picks.

I'll be curious to see if Philadelphia ends up taking Tomek if he's still around at #61 or #70. I can only assume that their new head coach had a hand in recruiting him to UND. Although it's usually a bad assumption that a head coach will still be around in 4+ years when a goalie prospect would be sniffing at an NHL gig.

Based on the Kings' draft and build philosophy, I tried to come up with a formula that would predict the Kings draft list, not including McDavid, Eichel, and goalies. An interesting one out of the typical order would be Roy, so if they traded down a few, that might be who they'd grab.

Here are the results:

Name Value

Strome 16.5
Provorov 16
Marner 15
Roy 15

Werenski 14
Crouse 14
Larsson 14
Merkley 14

Rantanen 13.5
White 13.5
Chabot 13.5

Hanifin 13
Zacha 13
Meier 13
Connor 13
Barzal 13
Juulsen 13
Boeser 13
Meloche 13

Zboril 12.5
Svechnikov 12.5
Eriksson Ek 12.5

Carlo 12
Carlsson 12
Harkins 12
Dermott 12

Debrusk 11.5
Konecny 11
Kylington 11
Siegenthaler 11
Dunn 11
Chlapik 11
Roslovic 11
Beauvillier 10.5
Fischer 10.5
Bittner 10
Gurianov 10
Sprong 10
Cernak 10
Senyshyn 10
Yan 9

Which "Roy" are you referring to? Jeremy and Nicolas are each rated to go in the first two rounds of the draft.

Bob McKenzie has him as a potential top 20 pick in the 1st round with scouts he's talked to telling him that he's a foundational goalie that a franchise can build around.

Both McKenzie and ISS have speculated that he is likely to be chosen by the Edmonton Oilers with their second 1st round pick that they got from Pittsburgh.

Especially Connor. The jokes would never get old

Jeremy.

I didn't know too much about him when I put that together, but after reading through his thread on the prospect board and listening to the interviews, I think the Kings would be comfortable taking him at 13 or trading down a few and still pick him. Based on my value calculation I could see the Kings trying to move up a few if Provorov slips to 8, but I'm guessing they won't be able to move up closer than 10.

Denis Guryanov is touted to be a very skilled power forward at almost 6'3" that can skate, dangle, and has one of the most lethal shots of guys available in this year's draft.

If the pickings for skilled forwards gets thin by the time #13 comes up, do you think the organization will be hesitant to select him because of the "Russian Factor" and looks at a different position like defense instead?

I don't think the Russian Factor scares our guys as much as it does others. Don't get me wrong, I think we'll be going BPA, I personally just think the BPAs in that area are all just skilled forwards. If he's a bigger guy, like Zacha, that's just a bonus. I think all things being equal, we're getting a forward

I don't know if we can say it scares them or not, we just know they do their homework on guys to make sure they want to come over. I believe every Russian drafted under DL has come to NA, I'm sure that's off the charts for other teams.

Pretty sure many of you will be pleased with our selection in the HF staff board mock draft :) I know I was.
