I don't have any problem with Babcock having final say over Rochester and Buffalo transactions. And after Nolan loudly complained about Pysyk, he should be concerned about it.

Babs current contract is til 30 June. I'm guessing if this goes through they'll do a presser announcing him as the next Sabres coach.

Being that he's still under contract to Detroit, will that limit what he can or can't do with us? Seems kind of awkward, but maybe it's just how business is done?

Nope. We can hire him straight away. We just need to pay Detroit a 3rd round pick in one of the next 3 drafts as compensation.....which we've already agreed to do.

I really hate the idea of giving Babcock too much power with player selection.

I don't want that either. But I certainly wouldn't mind the input. I don't think Murray would do anything that he's absolutely against just to please Babcock.

Come on, Mike. Go home and seal the deal with Mrs Babcock. Do what needs to be done, if you know what I mean.

Do you mean call-ups? Because it'd be ridiculous to give him final say over other roster moves. He's not a GM, he's a coach.

IF, I mean IF, Babcock does choose Buffalo and comes to town to sign a contract, PLEASE don't track his flight and meet him at the airport terminal. It would just be SUPER creepy and scare him off.

They step in because of Blashill. Babcock even said that.

And way to misunderstand my Leino comment even though I outlined not to take it that way. We went after Leino regardless of him being a good fit or not because until Pegula was here we were never able to be in the running for a top tier free agent. That's what my fear with Babcock was. That he may not be a great fit for the team but we're one of the few teams that can afford him so we pursued him.

C'mon what's Babcock supposed to say. Blashill sucks, the only reason these young guys succeed at the NHL level is because of me. The reality is Blashill is a good up and comer and was being groomed to be the next in line after Babcock. Did he play a significant role in the development of these young guys? Absolutely. At the same time Babcock deserves credit for putting these guys in perfect roles to succeed and helping them become great young players very early in their careers. Giving all the credit to Blashill is being completely dismissive of Babcock's role in their development. Is it tough to believe a guy who's already the best coach in the league who's done well with old players, young players, and everything in between may not have had a hand in their success? Not for me, and honestly I find it surprising some think this will be an issue.
As far as the Leino comparision I get what you were saying, it was just a terrible analogy. Leino was a 2nd tier (and that's probably stretching it) UFA. They were unable to land any of the big fish so they overpaid him. Babcock is the big fish. He's the best coach to become avaialable in years. Let's just be happy Buffalo is finally pursuing the "big fish".

Right call ups and send downs. If I'm him, I have two roster concerns: 1) another Pysyk situation, and 2) potentially a huge number of young guys being forced onto the roster. If Babcock wants to be the guy who decides who makes his team and who doesn't, I'm totally comfortable with that.

I think Mark Jakowbowski has final say over transactions - your resident CBA and salary cap expert!

I agree then. I do think coaches should have some say in call-ups, with the exception that when it might start to burn a guy's contract obviously the GM can put the kibosh on that. Not that I think what the coach says should be gospel, but he should be more a part of the process than it seemed Nolan was, because he's the one determining where the holes on game day roster are and what he needs.

Hamilton is just guessing. Makes sense...let me tweet it.

Or he's one of the few reporters that actually has a real insight into the organization...
He's certainly got his faults, (personal agendas against players being one of them) but people give Hamilton too much flak around here. I tend to think he's not just blowing smoke about this, but maybe I give him too much credit.
