Sabres fan curious about Derek Forbort.
We need a LHD, & he seems to be stuck in the AHL.
Is he available?
What would LA be looking for?

His AHL coach just recently called him an NHL D playing in the A. The Kings could very well have plans for him next year due to the cap crunch. He's somewhat a victim of management thinking the road to a cup can only be done with veteran D. I'm sure the Kings are still keeping their options open. They certainly don't get very strong play from McBain, Ehrhoff, or now even Schenn. IMO. So anything could still happen.

I still have faith that Pearson will turn it around.

Pearson is 5th on the team in points/60. 6th in iCorsi/60. He's right about average with possession stats, opponents Corsi against is 49.6.

I think we may have been spoiled seeing him tear it up when the 70's line was hot. Overall, he's doing pretty well all things considered. He's producing at a top-6 rate while holding his own in the possession department. Pearson's biggest problem is ice time. Out of the group of players that have played the entire season healthy (47 or 48 games) he's dead last in ice time.

He'll still get 40 points, I think. The nice thing about Pearson is he's kind of a skilled Lewis. Not as good defensively, but can pretty much play on any line. With a set spot on the top 6 he's probably right around a 50 point guy. Great production for his pay grade.

Thank god we have smart people like Dean and company so I can sit back and enjoy these days I have waited my whole life for instead of complaining about everything the team does and sitting around worrying about how they can keep it together. Anyone who sat thru any part of the Kings from 1967-say 2010 should be sitting back enjoying every second of our success instead of complaining about every move that's made and how the next guy is getting signed. I go to every game and as the song is being sang I look up at our cup banners and everything is perfect, if we don't win another game the rest of my life I have seen something I never thought I would see, twice. IN DEAN I TRUST!!!!!!!

I don't think he would be available as we will need him and his cheap contract moving forward and the team has done a lot of work to develope him as a defensive d-man would not make sense to ship him out at this point.

i just can't wait till we acquire Buff ;)

Doughty-Muzzin
Byfuglien-McNabb
Martinez-Schenn

would be the most disgustingly talented blueline since the last contender Buff was on...'10 Hawks

ill take it

edit: and while we're on the topic and i'm looking back on it, how in the Christ did that team not blow everyone out of the water like the '12 Kings? honestly, blueline w/ Keith/Seabrook/Byfuglien/Campbell/Hjalmarsson? are you serious?

Forbort probably won't be moved unless he goes with Brown or Gaborik. More likely LHD to be moved would be Gravel.

Still think the best Defensive line-up for the Kings would be...

McNabb--Doughty
Muzzin--Schenn
Forbort--Martinez

One good Dman with one decent Dman. But 3 strong pairings altogether.

I always remind myself and my friends that these are the good times. It might not be like this for a long long time if ever. So soak it in. On the other hand, I don't want to accept mediocrity now that we have the taste of what a true winner looks like, but I don't take anything for granted, that's for sure.

Nicely said. But of course, if we didn't complain, what would we have to talk about?

Best defenceman
Drew Doughty (LA) 12
; Erik Karlsson (Ott) 5; Duncan Keith (Chi) 3; Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Ari) 2; Brent Burns (SJ) 1; Roman Josi (Nas) 1; Kris Letang (Pit) 1; Ryan Suter (Min) 1; Shea Weber (Nas) 1.

Finally, someone other than the Capitals or Blackhawks came out on top as Los Angeles blueliner Doughty earns top honours. With nine defencemen getting at least one vote, this category was easily the most competitive, although Doughty still cruised to the top spot, getting seven more mentions (12-5) than Ottawa’s dynamic Karlsson. Chicago’s Keith (three) and Arizona’s Ekman-Larsson (two) were the only other blueliners to get multiple votes

I'll take these guys word for it over a thread filled with Ottawa and Swedish homers. They must be losing their ****. These coaches are just a bunch of haters!!!

shooting blind bullets again. a lesson i've learned today, with a failed experiment. it's about small sample size in hockey statistics.

this one needs some introduction. i was searching for different stats about vincent and luke as lak. they played only 9 games since they came, but still.

one of my favourite stats is wowy, with or without you. it's not really advanced, nothing fancy once you get under the belly. but overall it's a good stat, you get what you see.

now look what happens when you're playing with "big sample" vs "small sample", 5v5.

big sample = gaborik (48 games played):

small sample = lecavalier (9 games played):

wowy-1516-L.A-lecavvi80-shots.png

horror story. really nothing to compare, no trends, just a huge spider web with oceans of empty space all around. suck it. same with luke or other players.

lesson: it's much too early to judge vincent and luke strictly over their advanced stats. just watch the games and use your hockey eye and your hockey brain. imo they're both very good, they fit in and they're both a serious upgrade to the team. and i will not touch those stats for some time, at least not until +20 games played. +20 should do with most stats of this kind, with standard precautions of course. curiosity killed the cat, again.

So you needed to crunch numbers and produce two data charts to reach the conclusion that a sample size of 9 games is too small and thus too soon to say anything definitive about the acquired players?

I'm thinking maybe there was a shorter path from Point A to Point B you could have taken there. :)

some stats are robust even with 9 games played. take a look at toi, toi is very robust even with a small sample, the variance there is much smaller. wowy, that was the lesson, is a different animal. cf% is similar.
