Toffolli being on a bridge allows LA to bring in Lucic. If we win the cup before TT bridge deal expires hard to argue it not being worthwhile.
This is where the failure to use the compliance buyout on Richards, along with the uncertainty of the Voynov situation, and the upcoming Kopitar contract really hurt.
Dean could have probably bought some of Toffoli's UFA years at a discount had he acted last summer on that idea. Something like maybe 7 years, and $35M total might have gotten it done. Now the key to getting Toffoli re-signed may be in dealing Brown's contract, let alone Lucic.
Given the current economic and cap conditions I don't see how the Kings fit everyone that makes the big bucks under the cap.
Yeah, we aren't resigning Toffoli at 7/5. Pipe-dreaming on the cheap again. I see a pattern here.

I think a bridge deal was perfect for Toffoli though, both agent and club wanted to see what player he was, there's a big difference between a 25g scorer and a 40g scorer at the NHL level and he hadn't quite put it together vs. tougher checkers quite like he has thus far. I'm just ignoring your point for the illustration that I don't think Toffoli's situation was dictated only by the current contracts.
Agree, I think the biggest thing here was the Richards compliance buyout that should have taken place in the summer of 2014. Dean made a poor decision on Richards that would have provided him with much more flexibility. Maybe enough flexibility to sign Toffoli to a long term deal in the summer of 2015.
Not only by the current contracts, but they were a big consideration. Dean said as much in an interview, and that he was happy that Toffoli was willing to take a bridge deal so everyone could fit under the cap this season.
Honestly I don't see it. He's not playing bad. He's just not scoring, but he's effective in almost every other facet. On the other hand you have Gaborik who if he's not scoring isn't doing anything. Tough call.Honest questions. After Sutter said that LA needs more complimentary scoring today, Brown playing 4th line last game, and other comments made to media I think it is safe to say Brown is in Sutter's doghouse (as he should be).
My questions is does anyone here think that Brown will be a healthy scratch at some point this year?
I honestly could see it.

The parallels between them are just scary and if they continue he'll get the same contract.
2 years before the contract Tarasenko scored 21 goals the year before it he scored 37.
Toffoli scored 23 last year he's on pace to score more than that 37. If you just look at it from what he'll do this year then the following he'll be ahead.
Add to the fact that Toffoli is a year younger a $7.5M deal isn't out of the realm. Of course would like to see it lower but that is what it is really.

maybe i'm a pessimist but i still can't quite wrap my head around this Kings team having a young, legit 40 goal scorer
Toffoli has improved frighteningly fast in his short NHL career thus far, can't believe that just a few years ago his projection was along the lines of "top 6 potential"

Its a testament to our top guys that we're winning these games with guys like Brown and Gaborik having brutal years.
DL, you, I and everyone in the world recognizes the mistake of not buying out Richards. If you go back to that summer I drank the koolaid of him promising to get in shape and hiring a training for the first time in his life.
Lots of people were saying it was a mistake as it was happening so it's not like looking back now is some big blockbuster of an idea. Richards will have a cap hit for a long long time. I hope we do not have to hear about how DL should have used a compliance on him the whole time.
And as bad as Carter's been since he "healed up," he's still scraped together 4 points in 5 games.
Sure, as long as it's okay if we continue to bring up the Brown and Gaborik deals though, right?
A compliance buyout of Richards would have saved $5.75M in cap space. Of course it's going to come up from time to time. It wasn't that long ago.

Brown is a glorified version of John Zeiler this season. He barely does anything well. Gaborik has been just as useless as Brown.
i was more meaning once LA is on the hook for the $250K or whatever it is per year for till like 2031
Fair enough, my bad.
