If Gaborik is walking around Six Flags, I doubt his leg is in such a serious condition that he will miss all of the first round. They have absolutely no reason to rush him back and based on the original time table he should be back by middle of the first round. I wouldn't make much of Sutter's press conference yesterday; he never shows his hand and says inconsistent things to the media.

Big difference between walking and playing NHL hockey at the highest level.

Absolutely but if he's healthy enough to be walking around an amusement park with what we presume is the blessing of the doctors, and hes been skating a little bit, that's a good sign imo.

But as you say, big difference between being healthy and being conditioned enough to play not only NHL hockey but playoff NHL hockey. I doubt we'll see him in the first round unless we're in dire straits.

Well yeah...the fact that he is skating is the good thing.

Have to walk before you can run or, in this case, skate. It's just that walking around doesn't make me think this is a smokescreen whatsoever.

There is a timeline for an injury this severe and being back for the start of Round 1 is pretty ahead of the curve. Before Kane's collarbone comes up as a retort, I don't believe the injury was as severe as it was made out to be but a knee injury seems more serious anyways, at least one as bad as Gaborik's.

Still don't buy that for a second... you're basically saying it's the improvement of the OT, but icing crap like Williams/Brown/Lewis in the top 6 combined with the D this year there is no way this team has that many OT games... they'd have more losses, fewer points and still be fighting for the last spot.

Never said Lucic was for one season... personally I don't see how Lombardi gives up that much if he's not serious about bringing the guy back. Even so, the fact that Lombardi didn't find $3M to make space for Williams (for free) tells you how Lombardi valued Williams contributions his last year here.

Sekera never was worth that 1st... filling the void left by Voynov and returning mostly the same team that won it all the year before was worth it. Even if it didn't work out.

Missed this earlier....

How would they not have that many OT games this year when that same "crap" actually had that many OT games last season? Kopitar/Quick/Doughty are all having better seasons this year as well...even Brown is it seems like.

Your point about Lucic being this or that and Lombardi didn't think Williams was worth "$3MM for free" revolves around wanting to get Lucic as a long-term investment while the "free" Williams would be a two-year at best. If looking at it as "just this season", I don't think Lucic is worth all that was given up and neither does Lombardi.

I never thought you believed DL brought in Lucic for one season, but your framed your argument in a way that implies Williams/1st round pick et al is actually worth less for one season than Lucic when that is not the case.

As for Williams contributions last season, there was some weak play throughout the lineup from a lot of guys. Tons of hockey played, tired etc. Just like how Doughty and Kopitar look better (even Brown!), so does Williams. I don't think it is a coincidence.

In the end, what we have here is two guys who love Lucic arguing about him haha. I just don't think this team would be 20 points worse: they definitely won't be 10 points better either. ****...they clinched a playoff spot BEFORE even getting to the 95 points last year's crap put up hahaha.

the fact that they did say what it was tells me that he probably won't be back until at least round 2, unfortunately.

I was surprised he would even be available to play hockey again this year the way his knee bent the wrong way.

Since I'm still waiting for the return of Allison, Deadmarsh and to a lesser extent Pearson in '15, I'll believe Gaborik is back when I see it.

Got to find something to talk about waiting for the playoffs to start. :)

The absence of Nolan's physicality is offset by AA's ability to score on the 4th line.

The funny thing is he's scoring while on the ice with guys like Kopitar and Carter. So it is good to see a guy like him chipping in if Sutter has to rotate lines around, I also like where Andreoff is scoring from, which is right in front of the net.

Now away from the puck is another matter. Seems like lot of bad things happen when the Kings are chasing the puck in their own zone and the fourth line is trapped on the ice.

Does this team miss the physical presence of Jordan Nolan?

debatable.

I've always liked Nolan as the 4th line RW because he brings a ton of energy and physicality (and has showed a nifty shooting touch in the past), but I wouldn't call it a glaring hole or anything at this point, especially since we have more than enough depth forwards right now to fill bottom six slots.

The kings do not lack a physical presence so Nolan is a not needed commodity IMO.

I am not missing Nolan at all, but I have been wanting Mersch to take his spot all year

Agree--but I'd also add it seems like Sutter is testing and teaching because more often than not it's the fourth line AND Schenn and Scuderi. Have to believe he wouldn't do that in the playoffs...right? ...right? ...I don't even know anymore.

Don't worry... Sutter's just resting Scuderi so he's ready for 20+ mins come the playoffs. :naughty:

I'm joking, but I'm really not. :(

Sutter will be playing Doughty, Muzzin and Martinez heavy minutes in the playoffs. The minutes played now of the bottom 3 defensemen should not reflect the time distribution for the playoffs. The big question is who will be the 4th defenseman with the heaviest minutes playing with Doughty. I think it will be Scuderi.

I can see McNabb and Scuderi being rotated. To try and keep one or both of them fresher to spend time next to Doughty.

Agree with you. The way we play there is no lack of physical play and adding Merch would add a little offense for the bottom six and he's a big body which fit nice anywhere in the lineup.

Doughty/Scuds
Muzzin/A-Mart

Those four, will log heavy minutes come playoff's

Muzzin/A-Mart haven't been that good lately, hopefully they clean up a little.
