While you can't ignore the fact that Pittsburgh does have some very good forwards (albeit not nearly enough of them) any conversation about Pittsburgh has to eventually get to their back end, which is assuredly not one of the top 15 defenses in the NHL. I don't see them making the payoffs either. Prediction -- Mike Johnson gets whacked before Christmas.

He's a good junior coach, but really struggled last year. Fringe playoff team once again, last year was a case of square peg round hole since he tried to make them into a defensive team with the wrong personnel.

This year I bet you they run and gun, they have forwards and defensemen that won't apply themselves on defense.

With Kessel and Perron on different lines, you'll have 36 minutes of ice time where a forward isn't going to back check.

If they are .500 around Dec he's getting the axe.

This amount of hate I am seeing against the Penguins forward corps is absolutely ridiculous..... I know they are rivals of the Rangers, but let's put that aside for a second and take a look at the forwards they have.

you are trying to ridicule THIS offense:

Kunitz - Crosby - Hornqvist
Perron - Malkin - Kessel
Plotnikov - Bonino - Dupuis
Cullen - Fehr - Bennett
(they also have more depth guys waiting in the wings)

That's dirty if you ask me, especially consider you have the best player in the world, and a 2nd line that could be a first line on a **** ton of other teams. If Plotnikov plays well and Dupuis does, then that is a pretty damn good 3rd line too. Fehr is a good 3rd liner on a 4th line. Malkin is also a top 5 Center in the NHL, I don't think I mentioned that.(P.S. Malkin is on the 2nd line....)

Listen, I'm 26 years old and while I was still in my adolescent ages from 98-2004, those were some dark, dark days as a diehard Rangers fan. I followed every last article/detail out there, watched every minute of every game. I wept over the team and yet I came back every year during those 7 years without making the playoffs. Because you love the team. You bleed blue. You love the game, you even play the game to whatever level until you can't cut it anymore at least competitively.

So for me to sit here and listen ALL SUMMER LONG to what are supposed to be "Rangers FANS" bash the team, more specifically the defense....and even more specifically Dan Girardi...is absolute ********. It really is. Because many of you 18-22 year olds don't remember those dark days. No recollection of them, they're just a blur from when you were a young child. But for me they are as clear as day still. The piss poor signings each offseason throwing money at guys past their prime, making all these empty promises for the fan base. Underperformance one after another. Seeing us having to trade Kovalev TWICE, trade Graves, and even trade Brian Leetch. It was a travesty. Leetch should have retired a Ranger instead of being rented out. Playing in NY he should've been able to play on competitive teams throughout his career. It was disgusting seeing him in a Leafs and Bruins jersey. Heartbreaking.

And yet I have to hear some pompous human being belittle Dan Girardi because he has some flaws in his game by advanced stats metrics? GTFO. The same Dan Girardi who has been part of the rebirth of this organization, that has seen the light at the end of the tunnel and shown the Rangers fan base what winning and going to the playoffs feels like again. He has been part of rosters that have made it to 2 ECF's (two games from an SCF and last year one game) and one SCF. It is utterly ridiculous. The guy has to be doing something right. No matter what the stats say. You wan a tell me yeah wish G would improve in this area or he just isn't as good in that area of his game, fine. But to make jokes that he is barely an NHL defenseman...grow up. In fact go through the NHL archives and watch every game from the 7 seasons when this team didn't know the playoffs existed. You think this Rangers team is bad? This defense? Ha-ha. You wouldn't bother watching hockey again after being exposed to what essentially was a plague.



Can training camp start already...or at least players report early. We need something else to talk about.

I dated this girl from upstate. Found out she was a devils fan and she found out i was a Rangers fan. It ended the next week... it was during the ECF againt the debbies.

Great news. Hope Stalberg is right behind him. Hope they hit the MSG Training Center next week and the beat writers/Cerny get some photos/videos on twitter for us. I have a great feeling about the team this year. I really believe the roster is better/deeper than last.
