I liked what I saw from Chlapik, but a couple of caveats, from someone who attended both games. First, he was the best player on a bad Czech team, but he wasn't dominant. What he did do was manage to create some quality scoring chances for himself, something no other Czech player really did. He has a knack for stripping pucks in the offensive zone, and the sense to hold onto the puck that extra few strides to work into a better scoring position.

Second, I don't know if he'll ever be "flying". At this level, his skating was noticeably below-average, especially later into shifts. He'll have to put in a lot of work just to get it to NHL average.

I agree with this, especially his skating good thing is he has time to develop and get stronger. As many have mentioned he has never been on a proper work out program that will definitely help. He has a few things you cant teach or develop and thats offensive instincts and hockey sense.

I personally love Chabot's game he has so much upside! When you think the game at the speed he does and have his mobility there is tremendous potential. I really think atleast one year working with Luke in Bingo will go a long way for his development. I also hope he makes the WJC team as an 18 year old great experience for him. I really feel fortunate that the sens got him I really dont think it happens if it werent for Don Sweeney. I know for a fact that Calgary was taking him at 16 and who knows if he even makes it that far unless Boston doesn't trade for the two picks in front of the Calgary pick in the first place.

If he's always been a 2 sport guy, maybe an offseason or two with a power skating coach could do a world of good. Seems like something a guy devoted to Soccer in the offseason wouldn't have had opportunity to do.

Like you and I have reiterated throughout the year, there were teams who LOVED Chabot. The Sens being one of them. If the Sens were picking 10-12 I would be surprised if they never took Chabot.

Just curious where this came from. Heard it a few times now, especially the Calgary story, but never actually read anything on it.

I don't have any quantifiable evidence to support my claims, sorry, and am not sure of the Calgary situation as I was not privy to the information like bert. I have a part time job with a Q team based in Atlantic Canada and talked to scouts on a few occasions when I was in town watching games at the stadium. Obviously they never explicitly said anything one way or the other regarding the team they worked for, but you can read between the lines.

Cool never doubted you or anything, just haven't heard much of anything on Chabot.

He seems to be the least talked about guy in the top 20.

Don't you think it's normal for a junior with offensive talents?

You can't teach much offense, defense you can.

It might be on teams where the coaches support it; however, there are some teams that play a lower risk style of play.

Whats the Calgary story?

From above:

I really feel fortunate that the sens got him I really dont think it happens if it werent for Don Sweeney. I know for a fact that Calgary was taking him at 16 and who knows if he even makes it that far unless Boston doesn't trade for the two picks in front of the Calgary pick in the first place.

Oh that would be greatly appreciated, my friend. Some brilliant work yet again! You have no idea how refreshing this is during August.

Thank you all for the comments I am happy that they have been of some use, especially in the hockey starved months of Summer. I will try to get Chlapik's shifts up by the end of the weekend.

Cool. Dude looked veeeeeeeerrrrrry promising this weekend. Such a beautiful skater and puck carrier. I am looking forward to seeing him in Halifax a couple times this year.

Yep. The more I watch this kid skate the puck up the ice, the more excited I get. Probably early to say this, but I think we got a real steal. Kid looks like he watched a lot of Ottawa's games, because I do see hints of Karlsson's game in him when he brings the puck up the ice. I'm not saying he's going to be anywhere near Erik as an NHLer, but the way he can carry the puck up the ice looks so similar. Head up, controls the pace, the way he makes the defenders back off...the time and space he gives himself.

I probably sound crazy for even comparing that part of his game to Karlsson, but I just can't 'un-see' it.

LA was rumored to want him at 13 before they traded the pick.
I had even made a proposal for Ottawa to move up to 13 to take him.

Guy has elite potential. I love the Peitro and Brodie comparisons.

I see more of JayBo as it was stated in his draft. Nothing wrong with that, JayBo, if he wasn't such a push-over, would be amazing. he can skate, shoot, and drive the possession. Big enough to use his reach and position to get the puck out. JayBo of course is really soft and will never have that passion, but Chabot skates an awful amount like JayBo

And if Chabot turns into JayBo, we should be thrilled. JayBo is an Olympic gold medalist, two time all-star and could hit 1000 games this year. He's one of those guys whose entire career has been viewed through the lens of what he isn't, rather than appreciating what he is. He's had a great career so far.

yeah, if chabot turns into a jaybo clone, then our top 4 is set for years. chabot - ceci would be like double jaybo which means super solid in the defensive end and two defensemen that can pass and skate forever. with the three or even four line deep team, you have to have guys that can get the puck to the forwards on every pair. with karlsson, ceci, wiercioch, chabot, wideman, and wikstrand in the system, we should have lots of that.

agreed. he was hyped more during his draft year as a #1 with tons of offense, amazing defense, and enough size to be physically punishing. he's not that, so everyone is always down on him. if they looked at him as a #2 that can skate really fast for 30 minutes (i'm sure he could do 35. guy is an athlete), play exceptional defense, move the puck extremely well in all three zones, and be smart all over the ice, he'd be appreciated a LOT more.

I think a lot of it has to do with Bouwmeester looking more like an accountant or Radio Shack nerd instead of a hockey player. If he looked a little bulkier or was missing a few teeth or something, you probably wouldn't hear anyone ragging on him all that much.

It's comical that Chabot was ranked 3rd on our board's prospect poll. This happens every year. People get way too attached to the older prospects. Chabot and White are without a doubt the best 2 prospects in our system.

I don't think JayBo is physical enough to be a #2, he really isn't a top pairing defender. I think hes an above average #3 however and if Chabot turns out to be a less wussy version of JayBo and is an above average #3 that's a pretty good pick at #18.

Why is this bad though? HFSens had little exposure to them. NHL teams have different views about those very prospects, and probably how they would rank among our prospects.
