something to consider for discussion for rules for next year
1)once you drop a player you can not pick him back up later
2) Once the puck drops for a team you can no longer add or drop a player from that team
Sorry to pick on Soli--but he dropped one guy replaced him and then picked him up later after the team the player will play for played
I found out one my D-men was questionable AFTER Sweden puck had dropped and let it ride
I would prefer not to create any hard and fast rules as we haven't needed any for the previous eight years we've run this draft. The generally accepted rule is that your team is locked in once the tournament starts and that you definitely can't add any players once they have played a game. However, given the strange rash of injuries this year as well as the odd timing of Pastrnak's release (which was a weird move by Boston), I don't think we really have an issue.
In Soli's case, he took Pastrnak somewhat early in the draft and ended up having to take a weaker player after dropping him. Had Pastrnak have played the first game, it obviously wouldn't have been okay for him to add him to his roster. This is all in good fun and to me, it takes away some of the fun if we force a GM to play a man down because his player got dropped at the last second.
In any event, other GMs can feel free to pipe up if they have any other insight. I think we're fine though - Soli really didn't get any sort of advantage as he selected Pastrnak earlier in the draft, dropped him, and then just picked him up again later. No harm no foul in my books. It's been a weird year and I think we just need to treat it like that.
