"hard to miss those with a wide open net"

Clearly he's nowhere near ready for a call up.

Got a lot of high-and-widing to do before you sniff the NHL, kid.

Dude was on another level last night. His goalie interference rant was awesome.

Thought he had a great response to my inquiry on Ebert. It is definitely interesting to hear that the Kings want to promote puck movers jumping into the play rather than "Playing it safe"

They do have a tremendous amount of skating defensemen with good recovery speed. Teaching them how and when to pick the right times is obviously key and I thought both Ebert and Leslie looked very good last night doing so.

I saw that and totally agree. If that's not a signal of transition in organizational thinking, I don't know what is.

2) What's Jordan Samuels-Thomas' future with the Reign?

4) Who is the announcer of the Rampage game? He was so into it he almost had me cheering for the Rampage.

5) What is the plan for Emery? 7-6 game...ouch. But who else do we have?

I would guess JST's future with Reign is fairly secure this year. It's not really the goal scoring, which has been nice, but which I imagine won't last. He's been solid on the forecheck, skates decently, and looks to be a solid bottom-six fit. I did ask him about his recent success last night though, and he says the game has slowed down for him:

Reign Postgame Quotes: Samuels-Thomas, Backman

Dan Weiss is San Antonio's announcer. I especially like him because he gives thorough updates on his team's lines and pairings...makes our Reign game previews a breeze.

I have to imagine Emery stays in Ontario, as there's nobody to take his role at the moment. He was not at his best against Texas, but it's just one game, and he had been fairly solid in previous appearances.

Corsi is USUALLY better used as a predictor over long periods of time, because a sample size of one game usually isn't very telling.

That's not to take away the awesome work Sheng is doing, because over the season, you're going to have a much better picture of the possession metrics in the Reign.

Thanks for adding this. Along with recapping every game, I will be posting statistical summaries at the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and end point of season.

That said, and while his quote was refreshing, Ebert was a regular scratch last year. Ebert and especially Leslie have seen the pine this season. MacDermid, who is no puck mover, has played over them. So on Stothers's side, he still seems to favor some balance.

Indeed indeed. Can't just open the barn doors after all.

Probably still saw more game action than Weal has. Nah, I'm kidding. But called up and returned the same day?

Gulls beat Reign 3-2 in regulation. Mersch scored both goals.

Gulls beat Reign 3-2 in regulation. Mersch scored both goals.

Both on the PP. The second was a great bit of play by him, as he gloved the puck down at the top of the crease, spun around and beat Hackett to pull the game within one -- it was indeed a very nice individual play.

Play got... amped up in the third, with some bad blood beginning to seethe, it looked like. Tomorrow night in Ontario might be quite physical indeed, especially as I predict McGratten for the Gulls will be feeling his oats after getting a game misconduct 4 minutes into the third. The Reign had a 6-on-4 to end the game on another weak tripping call, but were unable to convert.

All in all, this was a MUCH more entertaining game to watch than Wednesday against Texas, probably for fans of both the Gulls and the Reign. I won't be making the trek tomorrow -- I'll be relying on y'all for updates to both the game and as to the ice status, as the Sockers and Fury are playing an indoor soccer game at the CBBA at 1pm, and the Gulls and Reign playing in the same facility at 6pm.

I should actually be at tomorrow's game barring crazy circumstances (hate to miss the Kings, but grr)...but can probably report back late at night depending on how uh, much money my group decides to spend :P

THis game is ****ing wild

Reign deserve better than the current score IMO--3-0--but they're right in it and could come back.

Can tell these guys have some history and really don't like each other. McGrattan and Bissonnette and pretty much everyone have been chirping all night--including on the benches. Crescenzi--god bless him--just put McGrattan into the Reign bench!

Loads of fun. GUess the rivalry might come to teh big clubs at some point too!

REALLY impressed with Kempe so far, but still so raw, and Mersch is an NHL player, I hope they're just turning the heat up on a simmering kettle by keeping him down

Reign PP is just not working tonight. 0-6 now, plenty to have made a big difference in the game. Looks good at times, but not dangerous.

aaaand that's it, 3-1.

Not much going on after the last lame PP, needed to capitalize earlier. Felt a lot like a Kings game :P

NOVEMBER 28: POSTGAME QUOTES

Stothers, on what he was saying to McGrattan after fight with Bissonnette:

Just asked him how his family was...

Stothers, on the fourth line with Bissonnette, Sabourin and Horvat:

That’s what you want out of those guys. They’re energy guys. Getting Biss back is huge. The guy, how long was he out, he missed six games or something, and first shift he goes up and fights McGrattan. You talk about a character guy, you talk about a teammate, you talk about a guy you need in your dressing room and on your bench. He’s involved all game long whether he’s pumping up our guys or chirping the other team. I think that line with Horvat and Bissonnette and Sabby, they went out, they’re a little reckless, they bang around, it’s exciting. You really don’t know what’s going to happen out there...

Reign Recap #17: Gulls Sweep Ontario by Sheng Peng at Jewels from the Crown

"San Diego owns the weekend with decisive 3-1 victory over Ontario Reign + Stothers has some choice words for McGrattan"

Appropriately, this game—both teams combined to amass 78 PIMS—closed with fisticuffs, as Horvat and Jackman squared off after the final horn.

Four more vs. the Gulls in Ontario, five more in San Diego -- though they don't really cluster them together until the back-to-back ones in San Diego to end the season. Those two might just get brutal in April.

How is Gravel doing? Any chance of seeing him this season or next with the Kings?

With World Juniors coming up soon, does anyone think the Kings will release Kempe to join Sweden? Or is the plan to have him stay in Ontario?
