I like Leslie in general.

On top of the Kings and Reign both getting 3-0 wins in back to back nights, it was amusing to see both the Ducks and Gulls get shutout 3-0 today.

Was anyone else who was at the game impressed with Zac Leslie? I thought he was outstanding for his first professional game. Poised on the point. Ran the PP like he was a 10 year veteran. Hard shot (first goal was a result of his hard shot that overpowered the goaltenders glove hand and left the puck on the doorstep for Crescenzi). Excellent skater. Took the body as necessary. Took some chances offensively driving deep into the O zone, played like he was not afraid to make a mistake (I'm looking at you Nick Shore).
Sounds good.

We need these surprises like this as the Kings traded away a lot of picks the last years. The pipeline is very thin.

Stumbled across this channel on You Tube with much better HD highlights of the game last night.

Outstanding, Reg, thanks. I added these highlights to my recap from last night. A GIF of those Mersch shot blocks everybody was talking about is here too, along with kind words from Stothers re: Leslie.

And my weekend #FancyStats recap should be coming tomorrow. Thanks!

Kempe looked like his dog died after scoring that goal.

The reason is he was literally in the dog house with Strothers after a very poor defensive game on Friday night. His giveaway led to the first opposition goal, his poor D coverage was a factor in the last opposition goal, and he took a very poor offensive zone penalty well away from the play during the game that Strothers actually mentioned during the post game (something about giving him more grey hair).

Kempe was essentially relegated to the 4th line during much of the game on Saturday night. I think that reflects on some of the lack of elation you are seeing after he scored (part of the growing up and professional learning process), and he was pointed at Backman giving him the credit for the great pass. Smart man coach Strothers. Knock'em down, build them back up into a pro. Nothing is easy in this league. I don't care where you are drafted, you have to earn it, on both sides of the ice.

Super excited for the Reign looking awesome but sheesh did they have to bring back the Chevy logo! Vomit!

Maybe he will report after all because he's getting no playing time in Ontario ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Could be, especially with the logjam.

I can't look right now but Stothers (Ontario coach) had mentioned something to the effect of he's not playing yet because you can't rush the process...implying he's not ready for the game (maybe just doing practice/systems work). COuld just be a smokescreen for what you pointed out, too. Just a very strange situation, kid is sort of caught between a variety of different leagues and countries heh.

That wouldn't surprise me. I don't really know what to think about it at this point. All I know is that it's nearly November and he hasn't played a single game yet. That needs to change for his development, whether it be with Ontario or Erie.

Curious how MacDermid has looked so far? Is he quick enough to keep up with the speed of the game? I've read the last couple of seasons that he can go out of his way for the hit and can "goon it up". Hoping his game has rounded out some.

Still too early to tell. I have watched him play twice now live, and he is getting a lot of ice time, paired with LoVerde, so Strothers has thrown him into the fire. He got beat to the outside on Friday night on the Condors first goal, although in MacDermid's defense he got caught a little flat footed due to Kempe's risky pass that was picked off, and the Condor forward had good speed.

Looks like he plays physical, but I need to specifically pay more attention to him as far as positioning, breakout passes, etc.

People blame Kempe for the turnover on the first goal, but both Loverde and MacDermid didnt look good either. MacDermid actually got blown away. See first 20 seconds of YT.

I was thinking that when I saw it, too. I don't want to absolve Kempe of responsibility but the reaction after the turnover was terrible.
