A guy like Reinhart?

Tell me what you guys know about Reinhart?

USA is a great team this year. Throwing Reinhart under the bus is unfounded and bathed in ignorance. Please. Just stop.

uhh no one is throwing him under any bus. He was just brought in as an example.

Well, technically I was throwing him under the bus. I don't like Reinhart and I think he was a very poor early pick and had a poor WJC. I think he'll have an Erik Gudbranson career.

But I'm not in the mood to discuss Reinhart with the poster you quoted, given his heavy bias towards the Edmonton Oil Kings. Particularly given that this is the US WJC Discussion thread.

Dont care to back up your nonsensical ignorance?

Predictably predictable.

This is the best American team in years imo, and I think they could rightly be considered favourites to win the tourney.

Good luck to them and their fans.

Appreciate the answer. I have one about Compher too. Is he actually going to center the 4th line behind Eichel-Larkin and Matthews? if so that'd be incredibly disappointing. He should be used as a top 9 winger who can match up against tough competition.
With Bracco out, that kind of throws the winger situation up in the air. Somebody has to play the wing on Eichel's line, and it's probably not going to be Anthony Louis. It's possible that Motte gets bumped up (he spent time on the Eichel line at the summer camp), and in that case I could see Compher being bumped up a line to play with Larkin and Fasching. Of course, that also depends on how highly they think of de Leo.

But something like this:

Motte-Eichel-Tuch
Milano-Matthews-Schmaltz
Compher-Larkin-Fasching
Wood-de Leo-Hayden

would be really difficult to play against. I do agree that Compher has been too good to just be the 4th line center, but we'll see what happens. USA is showing a preference to roll 4 lines, and that might factor in.

I am allowed to have an opinion without being attacked, you know. And if I thought you were at all reasonable on the subject of Oil Kings and former Oil Kings, I would be happy to engage you, despite it being late and being Christmas. However, since I know no matter what I say all that will happen is you calling me names, I shall decline.

That second Tuch goal was awesome. He's more skilled than I give him credit for.

Nobody is attacking anyone or calling anyone names. I asked you to defend your statement. Youve refused. Nothing more, nothing less.

I will disagree slightly on this. I do think this is one of the best collections of future NHL players that USA has iced in years. But much like when Canadians look back on rosters in hindsight and say they don't know how "that squad" could have fallen short, there usually is a very simple answer...this is primarily a 19 year old's tournament.

The most impactful players, and future NHL stars on this team, are 18 or younger. Familiarity from the USNDP is always an advantage. Perhaps playing against older competition at the collegiate level will help offset being a young team as well.

Even with me urging a little caution on proclaiming USA as the clear cut favorite, they are very much in the mix among the top 3 teams this year.

I think on talent alone the US is probably a clear #2. A step up from Sweden and Russia and just below Canada.

The worry for me is still defense. If the US gets in a tight game with Canada or Sweden, I don't know if they can just hope to outscore them.

You certainly did start it and I'm not an oil kings fan and you failed to continue our discussion as I was he first person to jump on you using Reinhart as an example, when you could have used a stay at home dman from the USA to make your point.

You were taking a shot at a type of player and also a specific player. When I asked you about it and brought up guys I know you can relate too (Vlassic since you're a sharks fan or even mirco Mueller or even more relevant Mr No offense Steven Santini) it became crickets and you speaking of a biased poster and a player you don't like.

If a dman can't adequately play both ends of the ice then he could be a liability. I think it's a pretty commonly held belief.

If you score 4 but give up 5 you lose. That's the type of player deangelo is.

You will worry about your defense. Canada will be worrying about goaltending yet again.

The outcome of elimination games generally rests heavier on goaltending than D. Canada has already lost an exhibition game in OT by a goal because of solid goaltending.

USA's D may be young, but Demko should instill confidence even if they make mistakes.

Good luck USA. I hope we both make the finals...especially since I'm flying out to Toronto to watch the medal games.

What if I said that Griffin Reinhart (or Brooks Orpik, or Mueller, or Santini, or whichever American defenseman will make you all less mad) is no good in the offensive zone? By your definition, "If a dman can't adequately play both ends of the ice then he could be a liability", Reinhart, Santini, Mueller, and Orpik would be considered liabilities, no?

For the record, Vlasic is perfectly capable in the offensive zone, thanks. And it would be the first time you brought him up. Not really seeing where the crickets comment came from. Maybe you were offended I went to sleep.

The fact that I just happened to use Reinhart and two or three of you Canadians just had to come into this thread and whine about it is ridiculous, to be honest.

And lastly, you may see DeAngelo as the type of player who makes you score 4 but give up five, but I see him as a player who makes you score 5 and give up 4. This is purely opinion on how good you think DeAngelo is.

If you want to use an American defenseman where that's the case, use Jack Johnson, not a player you know next to nothing about.

USA is less likely to choke. I'd go with them.

Yeah, but Canada is more talented so it evens out.

I want this quoted for posterity. It is the dumbest thing I've ever read.

Sure, go for it.

My major concern is a young, but talented defense. I hope they can rise to the challenge. Will need a lot of support from the forwards.
