I'm really hoping Santini will be ready to go and in form. Carlo had a very mediocre game tonight and Collins wasn't a standout aside from one horrible turnover right in front of the US net. I know Hanifin and McCoshen have played together at BC but they weren't impressive tonight. McCoshen in particular is a player I'm expecting much more from than he showed.

Having Eichel, Milano and Tuch back in will certainly add some more punch to the offense. Schmaltz can really go invisible from time to time and they ended up putting Wood on the line with Matthews and Hayden as the game progressed. I'd be disappointed to see him cut given his skill but he'll need to pick things up.

Nedelkjovic has allowed 3 soft goals between the two games while coming off the bench. It makes me wonder if he has the right kind of focus for a back up role. I might prefer Demko and Halverson at this point.

This game didn't make anything clearer in my eyes regarding cuts so I'll just wait and see.

On forward, I hope they cut Louis and Cassels. I could see them cutting Wood, but I thought he had a good game. I think Bracco showed enough to stay on the team.

I wouldn't recommend it. Chopping wood didn't lead to any improvements for the Oilers.

When do you guys figure the final cuts will be announced? And what do you think of De Leo's chances to make the team?

Candidates for 2015 U.S. Nat'l Junior Team trimmed by one this AM with release of D Mike Downing. 26 players remain in contention. #USAWJC

Some tough decisions at forward/defense. Just my opinion, but I really think they want Cassels to show enough in the next game to justify giving him a spot-even if it's as the 13th forward. He's going to be a good pro and it will be nice to have him locked in for future competition.

Expected. Thought Downing was extremely weak the past two exhibition games and he was fighting an uphill battle with the wealth of LH defensemen in front of him (McCoshen, Hanifin, Butcher, Werenski).

I expect the final defenseman battle to be between Carlo and Collins unless Santini can't make it, then the cut is obvious.

Practice lines from today...

Bracco-Eichel-Tuch
Milano-Matthews-Schmaltz
Motte-Larkin-Fasching
Wood-Compher-Hayden
De Leo-Cassels-Louis

Butcher-Carlo
Hanifin-McCoshen
Werenski-DeAngelo
Collins

Bouncing around wingers to sides they don't usually play is an interesting choice. Seems like they're contemplating a more conventional top 6/bottom 6 style lineup. That third line does have some talent but they're perfect as a checking line. I'd still be surprised if they don't find a bigger role for Compher though.

Santini is expected to be cleared to play today. I'd imagine that means he'll be tested in the exhibition vs Sweden tomorrow. I suspect he'll be plugged into Carlo's spot from today's pairs.

Is Tuch basically a lock to play Eichels wing during the tournament? I haven't paid enough attention to the USA team admittedly.

Pretty much. They played together for 2 years at the NTDP, played together at the summer camp where Tuch was fantastic and Tuch was also great in the BU exhibition. If the line struggles it's possible they mix it up but to start I'd be shocked if Eichel-Tuch aren't together.

only coach will know that one haha probably about 2 or 3 different bodies and see who clicks best come go time (Motte, Wood, Hayden, Schmaltz)

Been reading this thread a lot but haven't posted so I was confused when I saw my name as the last post but now it all makes sense.

I'm sure you're right, until someone fits in chemistry wise, it might rotate a few times. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you want it to be schmaltz also.

It looks like they are trying to balance the scoring or goal scorers I should say.

In the end it should be Milano - Eichel - Tuch, but wouldn't be shocked to see Motte or Louis on the left side

Motte was with them for the first 3-4 practices and game against BU. Bracco is the latest one to take a turn on that wing. My guess would be Motte starts the tournament out on their wing.

I think Motte was there until
bracco proved he could play at this level. Due to the chemistry at AAP game, I think they wanted Eichel with Bracco, but the latter had to earn it. Motte is way more versatile and really belongs in the bottom 6 on this team.
