Yeah, those are right in terms of who was on the line but not positions. I was at camp today, and just finished my writeup:

http://thehockeywriters.com/usa-wjc-camp-day-1-report/

These are the lines and pairings I saw:

Tyler Motte-Jack Eichel-Alex Tuch
Sonny Milano-Dylan Larkin-Hudson Fasching
John Hayden-Auston Matthews-Nick Schmaltz
Adam Erne-Cole Cassels-JT Compher
Anthony Louis-Chase De Leo-Jeremy Bracco
Miles Wood, Michael McCarron

Noah Hanifin-Zach Werenski
Michael Downing-Ryan Collins
Ian McCoshen-Anthony DeAngelo

I'm not sure what the configuration of Butcher, Carlo, and Dougherty was. Santini was on the ice but in a yellow non-contact jersey. All he did was conditioning work, and stickhandling with one hand. His bad hand/wrist might not have touched his stick all day.

I can't remember a team I was this excited about in recent years. I didn't realize how good 2010 and 2013 were, and I may have overrated 2012, but this seems like one of the strongest entries we've had since 2003.

Hayden and Motte stand out as not as great offensive options in the top-9, but they are with Matthews and Eichel respectively so they could just stand in front of the net and probably get a few points.

Hoping for Hanifin-Werenski, McCoshen-DeAngelo, Butcher-Santini, Downing.

Is Bailey a lock or what? He should be.

Not sure why so many people are surprised by Bailey omission. He's having a great year, but Dvorak, LaBanc and DeBrincat are top 10 OHL scorers, Garland is the top 1-3 scorers in the Q (haven't checked) and Kyle Connor is probably a top 20 pick and all weren't invited.

What? When did this happen? But more importantly, HOW??? He's been amazing this year. WTF?

The US has a very strong forward group this year.

I missed all the content because I was too distracted by the fact that the word "blessed" was used about fifty times, no exaggeration. I mean literally every single player description contained the word "blessed".

Okay, I just did a control+F and the word "blessed" was literally used 25 times.

i think we have a good pool of talent to pick from this year
this is one of the better forward groups i can remember in recent history

Both of them were effective in offensive roles at the summer camp so I can see the reasons for sticking with them. I'm not sure it'll remain that way once the tournament is underway but it doesn't shock me to see it at this point.

Apparently this team is blessed.

PP unit of Hayden-Milano-Matthews w/ Eichel/DeAngelo at the points.

Bodes well for DeAngelo's chances

I wouldn't read too much into it. They invited him to give him a chance and that chance to shine was going to come with the PP.

That is a amazing PP unit (on paper) though.

Based on the forward lines being run at practice, I'd say the cuts are:

For Sure
Woods
Louis
De Leo

Bubble
McCarron
Cassels
Bracco

McCarron is almost scoring at a 2 PPG pace this season in the OHL, I'll be one dissapointed Habs fan if they can't find a spot for 6'6 force that could bring a lot to the team.

Except that Eichel was the lone bright spot on a tire fire last year. Except that Jones backstopped the team to a gold medal. Except Trouba was amazing in his underage year.

The American underagers were not invited for shiggles. I firmly expect Matthews to have a similar impact as Eichel did last year. It would not surprise me if Hanifin performed like Jones. Carlo doesn't have a chance on this team, but Bracco and Werenski have torched NCAA teams full of older players for two years now.

Sue us for being excited about them. Maybe they'll let us down, but why should we spend time thinking about it? In addition to the special underagers, we have a ton of skilled 18 year olds. We have depth. There is three times as much talent on this team than last year when a banged up Danny O'Regan was our de facto #1C. Sue us for being excited.

Beautifully said.

I'm going to see the US/Sweden game in Kingston, and am very excited to see this American squad. It's a very well-balanced and exciting collection of players. Wouldn't be shocked if they win Gold.

Rocco Grimaldi's side job as a ghost writer.

I dunno about Hayden, but Motte has surprised me with his offensive skill in the Michigan games I've watched this year. Has some pretty slick hands.

One of them should've gotten a look over Miles Wood...

Get ready to be disappointed because his involvement in practices has been minimal. Going last in drills, doesn't even have a consistent linemate (he stuck with Miles Wood, but the third man rotated through from another line, usually it was Milano). The US sees John Hayden as a better option as the big guy, grinding type because he's a better skater.

I'm sure that Hayden not snubbing the crappy American development system for the most efficient league/team in producing NHLers didn't have to do with it :shakehead

Pretty sure that McCarron came through that "crappy development program" that your referring to, so nice try on the USA hockey snub.

I watch McCarron in London and his skatig a you mention is not the strongest and he still tends to play a perimeter game so I can see why the US team would send him home.
