Are any of the rosters usually that great? Not really. Canada just happens to have the depth to compensate for the usual rash of players declining invites.

Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic, Russia and Slovakia will all feature top talent despite these countries having vastly less depth.

yep, and we did win bronze with a less than stellar team in 2013 so anything is possible

It's not a finished product. If we can get a Schneider or Quick and then add guys like Eichel, JVR, etc, then I think the team will be able to compete. True "teams" rather than all-star squads tend to well in this tourney. That's not to say I don't envy Canada's depth, but it's not like they rip this tourney a new one year in and out.

JVR still might go he needs medical clearance first though

Though I am Canadian, I really do hope that USA wins this tournament. First, it would just be hilarious with the rosters USA typically sends. Second, the fans who have to put up with seemingly 90% of the players saying no would finally derive some enjoyment. Third, to hopefully shame the masses who refuse to go.

There'd be eight of us celebrating on a skype conference call.

Most likely, and that makes it all the funnier. Inevitably USA is going to win one of these years (look at the winning Finnish roster in 2011), and it will be great to see how the other countries react. Canada has a fair number of players turn this tournament down, but it doesn't approach what happens with USA each year. Something like a streak of great goaltending carrying USA to a win would be great.

yep, Faulk - Krug - Gardiner - Moore - Murphy is solid....

the rest...well.....I will wait until the other 10 guys are named!

I think Reilly could do some great things in the offensive end on big ice with his skating ability. The defensive end on the other hand...

As much as people like Rabid, American Dream, Bonney, SanDog and myself joke about past rosters... Whoever wants to answer the call I'll gladly root my *** off for.

Unfortunately we have no say as fans to who goes or not. I met Zach Parise in 2010, right after he got knocked out against the Flyers in the first round. I walked up and asked him if he was going to play in Germany.

I'll never forget him looking at me with a face that said *People actually know about that tourny in the US?* - but he laughed and said, "we'll see, I have a couple of injuries". Great guy though.

So if Matt Hendricks wants to fly all the way to Prague, put the crest on and give it all he's got, kudos to him, and I'll gladly pull for him and the rest of the team to have success. Love watching that USA Hockey crest play, I even was lucky enough to drive up to MTL for the WJ's this year. Bell Centre is an awesome place to watch puck.

Well said and I absolutely agree. It annoys me that so many American players don't bother with this tournament but I still fully support the team that they put together and root them on even if we would/should be winning a medal every other tournament if we had decent participation.

The yearly USA WC gong show should always be a great reminder that we're still nowhere near Canada in terms of player development. We're improved tenfold since the 90s but we still have a long way to go.

Unfortunately that would only reinforce their position that this tournament is not worth an A-lister's time and effort.

well said my friend, well said...

we all want to see the best team iced, but at the end of the day like you said, they have Old Glory on their chest so I am going to watch and cheer for Mike Brown - Mark Arcobello - George Parros as our #1 line against Ovechkin - Datsyuk - Kovalchuk....yup, we have a chance!! USA USA USA!! :yo:

You haven't won the gold medal in 55 years and it's not going to happen again anytime soon.

Sure, over the long term it's bound to happen. Then again, there's also a realistic chance that some people reading this will die from natural causes by the time it will happen.

It's doubtful with the way our players respond. It'll probably take a real special class of u20s like in 2013 with a crazy hot goalie.

Jack is a huge Canada fan and is one of the few that doesn't come onto the US threads to talk trash. Always gives insightful thoughts of his views on the state of USA hockey. Usuall very, very accurate.

You should read his posts more often and see how its done :)
