I like Mason, and then maybe either Bernier or Reimer. Ward is still solid. And obviously Luongo, but last year he decided to watch the playoffs :) I don't know about Smith, the last time he was very good for Canada (2013) and it's just a year when he was at the olympics. Can anyone tell me something more about him and this season? But seriously, I would be pretty comfortable with Mason.

Who knows for sure but I wouldn't be suprised if the Flyers don't even make Mason available for this given the season he's had on the injury front.

Mason may not want to go, but I don't believe NHL teams can hold a player out once their season is over.

correct, a team can recommend, advise, but not restrict a player's involvement...

players' contracts have clauses whereby certain activities are prohibited, i.e. downhill skiing, but playing for their National Team is not one of them.

Kadri was asked about it today. (pending RFA) he was unsure, tough decision given contractual status.

I hope we can do better than Kadri caliber players...but I'm not expecting much.

Bernier was also asked the same question. He responded with a "no comment".

Kadri would be ok, imo, but of course HC should get more star power up-front. They could start with Johansen, Couture, and Monahan ;) that would be fine.

The Flyers said no, but I don't believe there is anything binding that they could do. Once the season is over the season is over. There have been instances of injured European players going to the World Championship, presumably against their teams wishes.

Kadri shouldn't be invited. Canada has more than enough Kadri level or better centres that he is replaceable even if the vast majority refuse, plus most don't come with the issues that he is reported to bring.

re: Kadri. I agree. I'm just the messenger on that one. It was a question posed to him and Bernier by a TSN reporter.

We'll start getting the real invites and rejections in about 12 days.

bernier likely won't go which is why he likely said no comment and true.

Anybody who says Phaneuf will be bad on big ice, has clearly never watched him play on big ice.

He has played in 3 Worlds, and has been at least solid in ALL of them. Again, he could crap the bed now, but that would be based on current form, not his style

i don't think phaneuf would go if asked since his hand which he broke earlier this season still isn't 100%

#Flyers goalie Steve Mason, asked about playing for Canada at world championships, said he'd like to rest his knee. CAN has other candidates
according to Stephen Whyno on twitter.

I saw him play in 2012 and 2011, and didn't like it. Wasn't very good positionally. I don't remember him from his other tournament. He at least has a big shot, which looks like a potential weakness on the point depending on who is available, but that only helps if he can get it on net.

Had no issues with Dion in 07 in Moscow. And I was there to see all games live. but that was when Dion was playing well. In 2011/12, just like you, I didn't like what I saw. Dion has more important things to worry about than playing in any more WHC. I hope Hockey Canada takes a pass.

Steve Mason doesn't appear to be interested in going...doesn't want to tempt further injury to his knee. According to a report in CP.

So what are we looking at for goalies?

Mike Smith
Martin Jones
James Reimer
Cam Ward
Andrew Hammond
Micheal Hutchinson
Calvin Pickard(homer vote)

Left out Loungo because I don't feel like he'd want to come.

Interesting. Johansen should go to build up an international resume.

Ya, Johansen and Jenner would be the only 2 I'd be interested in seeing accept an invite. And I'm still pretty pissed at Jenner for his 2 disastrous World Junior tournaments. He took a step last year in making amends for that...so, let's hope he can take another step.

Jenner is quite a good player, and I would be interested to see how well his pro game can translate to international hockey. I was more interested in his WJC teammate Dougie Hamilton (should Boston miss the playoffs or be eliminated early) but apparently he has broken ribs.
